Merge 12-0

While the driver and bus are different subjects, they are always seen together. Unlike Lakitu and Lakitu's Cloud that are seen apart on multiple occasions, this dude and his bus are not. Of all violators of the Once and only once guideline, this is the most egregious. And unlike some other subjects that could avoid this by not mentioning the other subject, it would be quite difficult to do so here as the Lakitu is attached to the vehicle like glue in all his appearances (to my knowledge). These two are like Kat & Ana in that their inseparability makes keeping them split nonsensical and without merit. My other sandbox page shows what the merge might look like. These two subjects are seemingly quite literally merged already so they should be merged on this wiki as well.

Pizza Master's sandbox draft of this article is good, but I'm thinking maybe we should just name it "Royal Bus" and then mention that the Royal Bus is run by the Royal Bus Driver. This would also get rid of the conjecture in the title and in my eyes, make the title better. This could just be my personal preference, but I like to go with the idea that the Royal Bus is a service, that provides a bus of the same name. With a driver that's mentioned in the same article, even though there is no mention or hint at that being the case. If someone could comment with their thoughts, I'd like to see if I'm alone on this one.

Proposal is going to be fully reworked
I think this is an example of how not to handle a character merge. Given that there are similar proposals and pages, I believe a rework similar to them is needed here. As it stands, the page isn't written as a group; it focuses primarily on the Royal bus and only briefly mentions the actual driver who was merged into it. It seems that, following the proposal, the page mostly just underwent a rework more than an actual merge. Since these characters appear together all the time, it strikes me as a bit silly to have an article about one rather than both, and choosing the vehicle over the driver. It's like having a page about Lakilester's cloud but not Lakilester himself. Seeing as they literally meet all the criteria for a group, I propose renaming the page to "Royal bus and driver" and reworking it to cover both the Royal Bus and the driver equally, ensuring consistency with other similar merges, like these ones. Furthermore, this would allow for better integration of their roles in Super Mario-kun, as they also appear together there.

A change to make it clear this is about both the bus and driver is fine, though, admittedly we're not too crazy about renaming to "Royal bus driver and Royal bus". Why not "Royal bus and driver"? Or, heck, literally just leaving it on "Royal bus" on its own could work, since it's not like we have a page called WarioWare, Inc. and WarioWare, Inc. employees. We're really not sure why changing to a group infobox has to be tied to a rename; the infobox should frankly be changed regardless if this is, indeed, a group.
2. Arend (talk) I feel like a move likes this makes more sense if the bus driver actually had a name (since it feels incredibly redundant if the article were named like what was suggested)... but if that were the case, then the article would've probably been named after said bus driver, and be about him instead of the bus.

Isn't the driver currently being listed in the Lakitu article, which the page quote currently links to and the second paragraph of the Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars section spends time to detail both of their appearances? It appears that the current organization of "bus has article", "driver is a Lakitu with a size difference and without a name and gets noted on the Lakitu page" is working just peachy. (Royal bus driver's last non-redirect revision says the name "Royal bus driver" was conjectural.) Salmancer (talk) 20:04, September 28, 2026 (UTC)

He is included in the article, as are Lakilester and other Lakitu characters, albeit very briefly, but that isn't what even the original proposal indicated, so I'm not even sure if it's relevant to this proposal.
