Since this page is just called "Ostritch" and not "Ostritch (Donkey Kong Bananza)" like the Zebra one, shouldn't this page be about anything related to Ostriches in the entire Super Mario franchise and not just DKB?? Ken17 (talk) 21:26, August 7, 2025 (ET)

See MarioWiki:Generic subjects. In short, if a "generic, real-world ostrich" page was wanted, it would go to "Ostrich (generic)" a-la Penguin (generic), not merged into this one. That being said, with a sample size exactly two other Ostriches, neither of which seem to be modeled after real-world ostriches, the need for such a page is... @Ken17 i feel like you're going at this from the wrong angle. you're determining what the article should cover based on its title, instead of determining the title based on the article's coverage. there's no other page titled "Ostrich" currently, so it doesn't need an identifier. — eviemaybe (talk / contributions) 12:46, August 7, 2025 (EDT)

This article is only about the ostriches in Donkey Kong Bananza, but I don’t get why. I mean, it was only created for the ostriches in that game, but ostriches have also appeared in other games and stuff. In Mario Kart World, there were ostriches. Expresso is an ostrich. I’m not sure what deal with ostro is, cuz sometimes it’s a character, other times a species, but since the article uses a species infobox, I’m going with species. And if that were the case, it would be a derived subject of the ostrich. So, as you see, ostriches appeared about 14 times, which means the article should cover more. What do you think?

Beyond the fact that the Bananza ostriches aren't even close to generic ostriches (they're anthropomorphic and have a whole culture while being hotel employees), but that revision I just brought tried to encompass every sort of ostrich in the series in a single page, which would be pointless and messy considering we already have articles on those subjects. Imagine if we tried doing the same with Goombas and covered every Goomba and Goomba-like character or species on a single page, too. That's going to be a mess. We're better off making a separate page for generic ostriches instead.

Agreed with the comment above, Bananza Ostritch and MKW Ostritches should be separate pages like the Zebras. Also, MKW ostriches doesn't seem to be based on real Ostriches to my knowledge, so not really generic (educate me) (does that mean Elephants should have their own pages too? Y'know I feel like Ostriches in Mario Kart World has an abundant of information on its own from that game, which would be enough to make it a page of its own. I plan on noting every animal that exclusively appears in missions in Faraway Oasis, including ostriches. But I wonder do we call its MKW version "Ostritch (generic)" or we change this page to "Ostritch (Donkey Kong Bananza)"? Ken17 (talk) 10:24, August 19, 2025 (EDT)

The latter; the base generic species would use the "Ostrich" name and this page would be moved to "Ostrich (Donkey Kong Bananza)". The generic species would only need the "(generic)" identifier if the non-generic counterpart is recurring and much more notable in the franchise. Mario JC 07:25, August 20, 2025 (EDT)

I feel making a full page for ostriches as a whole is overkill, but I do think the fact the NPCs at least resemble Espresso should be noted on the page. It IS admittedly a bit confusing to have a character literally named "Espresso the Ostrich" and a separate page talking about a subject simply called "Ostrich" with no mention of the character, especially given how similar they look.
