Split the "Special" versions of Nintendo Classics gamesEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

The "Special" versions of the games seen on the "Nintendo Classics" apps that can be played via Nintendo Switch Online appear as separate, unique releases on their respective app with different titles, and, therefore I believe they should be split. I don't think it's really explained on the wiki anywhere what these special applications even do differently from their regular versions, and creating these pages will resolve that issue.

Dr. Mario: The UFO cover-up.Edit

  1. Mario jc (talk) These are essentially the same game but with a save state set at a specific point in the game / with certain elements already unlocked (which are explained on the respective Nintendo Classics pages through the in-app descriptions). I think we should be thinking about what would go in these articles and whether that's enough for a standalone article before deciding to split, and not solely because it's another version of a game.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) We're going to be honest here, we don't really believe these warrant splits. Unlike something like, say, Mario Bros. (Classic Serie) or 25th Anniversary SUPER MARIO BROS., there is no underlying change to the ROM whatsoever. These are glorified save states to things already in the game, that you could already work up to yourself. These are things you could all accomplish in the base game in an afternoon if you were bored enough. A savestate at a certain point in a game is not a new game; otherwise, Brawl's masterpieces would all be individually split up.
  3. Rykitu: The UFO cover up (talk) Per all.
  4. Hewer (talk) This takes the recent port-splitting initiative a bit too far for my liking. I don't think you can argue that they were "released separately" when they were only released as parts of larger applications, and the apps don't really present them as entirely distinct games, they're clearly denoted as "special" versions of other games. Being listed separately in the app is a weak argument considering the apps also have separate listings for the European versions of certain games (and WarioWare, Inc.: Minigame Mania even has a different title, so all of this proposal's arguments apply to that).
  5. Salmancer (talk) The description for this one points out its intended to be used to view one cutscene. The Super Mario Kart one is noted in sentences in that article's intro section, I think the same is fair for this. Per all. (It is weird how this one never made it to the base game's article though)

Oppose
  1. Mario jc (talk) Per my above reasoning.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per our vote on the Dr. Mario one.
  3. Rykitu, the quick-change artist! (talk) Per all.
  4. Hewer (talk) Per my other vote.
  5. Salmancer (talk) It's already in Remakes and ports. And doesn't need more elaboration than that. (I'd add a sentence to the intro for equality.) Per all.

  3. Rykitu Kart: Fully souped up! (talk) Per all.
  4. Hewer (talk) Per my other vote.
  5. Salmancer (talk) As stated, is noted in a sentence of the intro section. (Hmm, I guess there aren't any major releases to grant this article a "Remakes and ports" section. Maybe we should add one anyway) Per all.

Super Mario World: Give the world a whole new look!Edit

  4. Hewer (talk) Per my other vote. (Did this have to be a poll proposal? I'm not sure why anyone would decide to treat one of these differently to the others.)
  5. Salmancer (talk) Also in the intro, could stand to be repeated in the Remakes and ports section. Per all.
