(Note: This is a slightly reworded version of a post I had made on Discord about possibly deleting this article.)

This is an article about a character from a single episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 with no lines or proper name beyond an informal mention of his profession by Mario ("doctor's orders" is a common phrase), less than a minute of screentime, and whose only role in the episode proper outside of implied offscreen events amounts to walking and standing beside Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool. It's maybe slightly more substantial than what the "Mushroom Kingdom Fire Department"^{[conjectural]} from the same episode have, but... This article and the since-deleted one on the fire department just feel like a remnant of the "lore"-obsessed early days of the wiki to me, and we can do without it.

2. Dr. Wandering Poplin (talk) The very fact that the entire prose of this page only amounts to four sentences is a clear sign that this page has little purpose. Even the article about the other Toad Doctor has more value than this, and that page is essentially about two completely different people who happen to share the same profession! Frankly, I'm amazed that the idea of deleting this article hadn't been brought up sooner, it should not have been allowed to last for so long in this condition.
3. Camwoodstock (talk) In our medical opinion, there's no reason a guy who is basically just there to stand there and do nothing else should have an entire page like this.
4. Maw-Ray Doctor (talk) Per all.
5. Arend (talk) The article itself consists of only about four sentences (though one sentence is so short, I could easily just say it's three sentences long), whereas the remaining 90% of it is spent on listing twenty-one multilingual names; all just for the translation of "doctor's orders"?
6. Doctorshi18 (talk) Per all. We should make a proposal to delete all (irrelevant) one-off characters.

10. Rykitu (talk) Per all. I know I'm the guy advocating for ad character pages, which is a VERY controversial subject, but at least those articles are for characters who are named, have speaking roles, and are somewhat relevant in what they appear in. The doctor has none of that.

Comments (doctor's orders!)

There are other articles on minor characters in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 that could be deleted:

• Kitty: It isn't known if this actually the cat's name or if it is merely a pet name; "Kitty" is a common pet name applied to cats. In addition, several dubs of the episode have her outright calling it a cat or kitten, making it less likely that this is the character's actual name. Also, the cat has no role outside of being the scapegoat of Junior after he breaks some vases.
• Mayor: "Mayor" is more of a descriptor as opposed to an actual name, and the character has no role outside of being another one of the Brooklyn inhabitants who turn into Koopa Zombies.
• Mushroom nanny: Conjecturally-named minor character whose only role is accepting the money that Toad delivers to her at the beginning and the end of the episode.
• Mushroom referee: Conjecturally-named minor character whose only role is acting as the referee for the Tag Team Wrestling Tournament.
• Toad's cousin: Conjecturally-named minor character whose only role is selling the map to Prince Mushroomkhamen's tomb to Princess Toadstool.

Do you think a poll proposal should be made to delete these articles as well? It seems that out of all of the cartoons based on the Super Mario franchise, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 is the cartoon that has the most articles on minor and usually conjecturally-named characters. I haven't watched the episodes where those characters appeared in a while (though I do recall myself questioning the Mushroom referee's article), but you might be onto something. A proposal wouldn't hurt. — SolemnStormcloud (talk) 12:50, September 19, 2026 (UTC)
