There were two types in this game. The first types were faceless, black, apparently metal orbs that shot homing fireblasts at Mario. They were among the many traps layed by Bowser. Others included bombs disguised as butterflies and some larger variations. These fireshooters were replaced by smaller versions of the Fire Chomp in the DS remake. The second types were the ones often found in Bowser's levels. They were mounted in floating stones or walls (depending on where the player were). The fire that came out of this variant was shot faster and had longer range, making it difficult to evade.
Fire Shooters return in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They appear only in Bowser's Galaxy Generator, where they shoot fireballs at Mario or Luigi. The ones that shoot flames do not reappear in the game.

Fire Shooters[1][2] are a type of device appearing in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are similar to Water Shooters, but as their name suggests, they shoot fire instead of water. They resemble the nozzle part of FLUDD from Super Mario Sunshine, except in red. They are functionally similar to flamethrowers, which appear in Super Mario 64.
