Cat Goombas,[1] also written lowercase as cat Goombas,[2] are a furry, catlike variant of a Goomba. They make their primary appearance in Super Mario 3D World and its Nintendo Switch port Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, where they mirror Cat Mario as an enemy form.

History[edit]

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

Cat Goombas attack by jumping, then diving down, in the same way that Cat Mario can. Like Mario, they meow when doing this. They can be defeated with any attack, sometimes dropping a Super Bell. Cat Goombas are introduced in Super Bell Hill and reappear in Mount Beanpole, Mystery House Melee, and The Great Tower of Bowser Land.

In the Nintendo Switch port Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, specifically in Bowser's Fury's Lake Lapcat, there are brown Cat Goombas,[3] but as with other enemies in Bowser's Fury, their cat appearance is only an aesthetic difference and they do not gain any new abilities. As such, these Cat Goombas behave like regular Goombas (i.e. chasing the player as soon as they spot them).

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]

With Super Bell Hill making an appearance in the Wii U version of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Cat Goombas return as well, acting the same as in their previous appearance.

LEGO Super Mario[edit]

A Cat Goomba appears in the Cat Peach Suit and Frozen Tower LEGO Super Mario expansion set, which released on August 1, 2022. Two Cat Goombas also appear in Character Pack Series 6, which was released in 2023.
