Bounce and Trounce is one of Mario's minigames in Super Mario 64 DS and a Variety minigame in New Super Mario Bros.

Gameplay[edit]

This minigame is very similar to Bounce and Pounce, but it is point-based rather than level-based. Three different Marios fly up onscreen, and the player must make them fall on top of the Fly Guys. For every time a Mario lands on a Fly Guy, the player gets a point and the Mario bounces back up. Tapping on a Mario makes him bounce up into the air approximately the same distance as one of the screens. Tapping his left side makes him fly up to the right, and vice versa. If Mario hits a Fly Guy from below, he will get stunned for approximately one second. After the Mario lands on a Fly Guy, more come flying in from the side and a propeller sound is heard. There can be up to six Fly Guys in the sky at the same time.

The level starts off with three big Fly Guys at the bottom of the Touch Screen while the Marios are thrown up from beneath the two screens. When the big Fly Guys are defeated, only small ones appear in the Super Mario 64 DS version, while in the New Super Mario Bros. version, more big Fly Guys appear, and after about ten of them are defeated, only small Fly Guys appear. All Fly Guys fly around in different patterns and speeds, some in straight lines across the sky; others erratically jump around.

The player can drop three Marios off the screen before they lose.

In-game instructions[edit]

  • Super Mario 64 DS: "Mario's surrounded by Fly Guys to trounce. Touch him on his left, right, or center to make him bounce in that direction."
  • New Super Mario Bros.: "The sky is thick with Fly Guys! Help Mario stomp on their heads by tapping on him. Tap Mario on the left, right, or center to make him bounce left, right, or straight up into the air."
