RE: Article[edit]

Good day, Kirbyo. I'm glad to hear you have interest in submitting a section to the paper. You don't have to use Discord to sign up for The 'Shroom. Are you able to make an account on our forum? It's free and only requires an e-mail address. If so, you can make an account and copy and paste your section into a private message to be sent to our Statistics Manager. That's the easiest way to sign up, but if that can't work for you, we can look for some alternative solutions.

RE: RE: Article[edit]

good day to you to, Hooded Piyohui. thats a great sudjestion, but im not a fan of social media, and the forums seem too mutch like what i think reddit is like (not like i actually use reddit, i dont). is their a way i can just email you (or whoever i send my aplication to) my aplication, when its done? also, am i able to do it where i can make a section for the issues of the shroom when i want to? for example, i might be buisy march cause of tests, so ill miss that article, but ill make another one in june or april. thanks.

Generally speaking, which talk pages discussions are held on don't matter that much, but many people use this "RE:" method of holding talk page discussions because your own talk page is automatically watched. That said, if it's easier for you, I'll add your talk page to my watchlist and we can keep any remaining discussion here. Now, onto the question at hand, if you don't use the forums and you don't use Discord, there is an option for you to e-mail the section. If you would, please, e-mail your submission to We'll receive it there and treat it like any other submission. (Oh, and, as an aside, it's good form to sign your talk page messages by leaving four tildes at the end of them.) Hooded Pitohui (talk) 17:38, December 9, 2020 (EST)

first off, watchlisting eachover so we can know when the other has a message is a good idea. also, thanks for the email method, it will work perfectly! ill try and finish the application tonight. btw 4 tidles! Kirbyo (talk) 18:56, December 9, 2020 (EST)

I've submitted my aplication!Kirbyo (talk) 19:38, December 9, 2020 (EST)

One last thing... how will i get the results? Also, if i somehow do get accepted, i wont be able to make any new articles for at least a few weeks while i learn how to use the wikis editor. is there a place where i can improve my skills with the wiki's editor? Kirbyo (talk) 19:46, December 9, 2020 (EST)

MarioWiki:Sandbox. Of course, you can make your own. --KnightDarkNightKnight 20:00, December 9, 2020 (EST)

I'll contact you with the our feedback in a week's time. We take a week to review submissions, and, after that period has passed, we'll reach out and let you know whether you've been accepted or rejected and offer our suggestions for how you can improve your article. As for testing, yes, as DarkNight has noted, you can use the sandbox. Please be sure not to put entire articles in there, though. As for your question about collapsible tables you left on my talk page, use this basic code, replacing "TEST" with whatever you would like to include.
{|class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed"
Hooded Pitohui (talk) 10:49, December 10, 2020 (EST)

Thanks, HP, and Dark Night to! can't wait for the results! Also, if i get regected, but also given tips on how to improve, can i send back my aplication with those improvements? Kirbyo (talk) 11:05, December 10, 2020 (EST)

Yes, of course. If you are rejected, you can send the application back in with the improvements made. If you do everything asked and show you take the feedback seriously, it'll give you a high chance of being accepted the second time. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 13:38, December 10, 2020 (EST)
To tell you the truth, it varies. Many days, we have no applications at all. Some periods see more than others. I assure you, though, that quantity doesn't influence our decisions. We'll judge your application solely on its quality. The number of applications we receive doesn't change the quality of an individual application. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 18:05, December 10, 2020 (EST)

RE: sudgestion[edit]

Thank you for the suggestion, this month's Spotlight will actually be themed alongside the rest of The 'Shroom, but we can definitely look into it for January's Spotlight. Yoshi876 (talk)

Your Submission[edit]

Hello, Kirbyo. To be clear, we haven't reached the end of our week period, but I wanted to reach out to you early to give you a chance to get your section into the December issue, since that seemed to be your aim. What we need to see is that you are capable of properly using basic wiki coding and cleaning up your submission a little bit. I've seen that you've been practicing with the "show/hide" boxes, but, as your original submission didn't use them, we need to a see a version that does. Here's the changes we need to request you make:

 • Redo your submission while using the wiki coding your section needs
 • Clean up the grammar and formatting a bit (add punctuation to the end of sentences, be sure to capitalize the start of sentences)
 • Italicize the names of games
 • Add one image at the start of your section (the boxart of Super Mario 64 would work well for this edition).

A small image at the start, like Yoshi876 used in his old Quiz section would help make your section more visually appealing. If you need help with the wiki formatting required for italicizing words or adding images, please look at our Manual of Style. Long story short, we just need to send one revised submission that shows you know how to use the basic wiki formatting your section uses. If you can do that, it would be a big help! If you can do it in the next two days, we should be able to get you into the December issue. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 14:14, December 13, 2020 (EST)

Oh, it's fine if you'd like to wait until January's issue. To be clear, though, we're not asking you for a new edition of your section yet. All we need is the section you've already written, with the proper wiki formatting added. In any case, we'll contact you with our full feedback when the week period ends on December 17th, and you can submit the revised version any time before January's issue. That's perfectly fine. Thanks for clarifying when you'd like your first article to appear. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 13:48, December 14, 2020 (EST)
That's no problem. Feel free to send your updated section. Be sure to go over it and ensure that all grammar, spelling, and wiki formatting is correct before you send it. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 08:27, December 16, 2020 (EST)
You need to add the apostrophes yourself. While we will correct minor mistakes, we expect writers are able to include the basic wiki formatting that their sections require on their own. Please put in the apostrophes and any other wiki formatting (for example, the "show/hide" boxes) yourself in the submission you send to us. If you need help, you can reach out and we can gladly assist you. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 12:05, December 16, 2020 (EST)

ok, I understand. so basically I'm pretending I'm writing directly on the wiki? cool. I might need help with images thought. can I plz have the code for those? thx.

Kirbyo (talk) 12:19, December 16, 2020 (EST)

Exactly! Write it just as if you were writing it directly on the Wiki! Here, I'll give you an example of basic image coding that you can copy and paste and edit as you need to.

comes out as:

This is a caption

Please replace the filename (XYZ.EXT) with the name of the image you would like to use, replace the "200px" with the size you want the image to be, and the last portion with whatever caption you would like to use. For further information, please look here and here.

I only have one question left...where can i find usable images? btw finished my final draft of my article!

Kirbyo (talk) 19:03, December 16, 2020 (EST)

Hello, Kirbyo! First, to answer your question, you may use any image that is already on the Super Mario Wiki. Simply click the image you want to use and go to its page to find out its filename so you can use it. You can also use images that aren't already on the wiki. Simply give them an appropriate name and send a link to them (external - do not upload 'Shroom images to the wiki on your own) at the bottom of your submission. Now, your application period is over, and I'm happy to say that you have been accepted! We were going to ask that you send in a revised version with the wiki formatting, but you've already done that! Looking over your recent submission, you've already greatly improved your skill with the wiki editor, and everything looks good. So, you are all set and you are officially a writer for The 'Shroom. I only have one final question. This section you have sent in, the one themed around Super Mario 64 DS that we already have, would you like that to debut in December's issue, in two days, or in January's issue? Either one works. We simply need to know your preference. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 10:54, December 17, 2020 (EST)
Alright. That sounds just fine. We will hold onto it until January. Thanks for your patience and cooperation, and have a grand day! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 11:08, December 17, 2020 (EST)
That's fine. You have plenty of time to make those changes, so feel free to submit an edited version. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 12:18, December 17, 2020 (EST)
We did indeed receive the revised submission. As for links, you can make internal links like this Mario (Mario) or like this where the text differs from the target page (where the text differs from the target page), and external links can be made this [ Wikipedia] Wikipedia. I hope that helps! Check out those pages I linked you to earlier if you need more guidance, and, remember, there's nothing wrong with practicing in the sandbox or asking other users for help while you learn the formatting. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 17:06, December 17, 2020 (EST)
I'm sorry, but I don't know all that much about wiki formatting. I mostly know only what's relevant to The 'Shroom, often learning new things to meet the needs of writers. You've probably seen that my own userpage is rather bland. I'd recommend asking other users for tips on those kinds of things. (I'd also recommend you ask for tips on what kind of editing and content you can do to help out the wiki. You might learn a few formatting tricks just by working on different projects, or you might even be able to come up with some of your own. Plus, it's just good to make some contributions to the Wiki's content, too.) Hooded Pitohui (talk) 13:04, December 18, 2020 (EST)

RE: help with homepage and other tips[edit]

Hello. One thing a lot of people do to their userpage is adding userboxes. If you're referring to appearance, you can add a border and background colour to the page by placing this at the top (this is what I used for my userpage a while back; you can change the "#3C0" and "#F60" to different colour codes based on your preferences):

<table style="color:black;background:#3C0;border:6px solid #F60;-moz-border-radius:6px;padding:8px;" width=100%> <tr><td>

You can always look at other userpages and use their formatting code as well.

If you've played Donkey Kong on the Game Boy, there are some level articles in need of creation. There are also a few Mario Odyssey locations missing. Special:WantedPages usually lists articles with many red links that haven't been created yet, but the best way to starting finding articles to help with is to find articles about games you know well. You can try looking on the game page of a specific game then branch out from there.

As for formatting tips, one thing you might do often is piping links (changing the display text of a link): for example, Luigi's brother which becomes Luigi's brother (that is Display text). We generally do this for articles with parenthesised identifiers like Mario Kart (series) (Mario Kart which becomes Mario Kart - the "(series)" part should be hidden). In these cases, one helpful shortcut is simply typing Mario Kart (series) (with the vertical bar at the end), which saves time and produces the same result after you've saved the edit (though this won't work in gallery captions). This is also nifty when creating interwiki links like wikirby:Kirby's Return to Dream Land (this hides the "wikirby:" part in the link text). Speaking of, you can find prefixes for other wikis on Special:Interwiki.

You'll find much of the formatting pointers you need on Help:Contents (MarioWiki:Manual of Style is also worth reading). I hope something here helps. Samus costume, in Super Mario Maker. Mario JC 20:20, December 18, 2020 (EST)

RE: Release[edit]

I'm currently uploading the issue. I can't give an exact timeframe, but it should be finished within the next two hours. Keep an eye out on the main page. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 11:54, December 19, 2020 (EST)

You've probably seen, but I thought I'd mention that the issue is now out. Enjoy it! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 14:10, December 19, 2020 (EST)

Customize "this"[edit]

If you are talking about customizing your signature, then go to MarioWiki: Signatures. (Create a signature page, then change the signature section in preferences to say ) If you're talking about something else, then tell me. --KnightDarkNightKnight 23:56, December 24, 2020 (EST)

Just put it in the regular way, although you have to size it so it can fit with the text. The maximum size of a sig can be shown on the sigbox. --KnightDarkNightKnight 22:57, December 25, 2020 (EST)

Re: Jumping Boots[edit]

Hello, I have rewritten your recently created article on Jumping Boots.

 • When writing articles, do not write in second person or implied second person (you must go there, go to this location, etc.) Always use third person, such as the player or the names of the protagonists.
 • Piping link titles is not necessary for Woohoo Hooniversity since the spelling is the name as the article title. You pipe when you want to write other words for an article title.
 • Make sure you add the proper categories and navtemplates to the article you are making.
 • You have to write with proper grammar and spelling. Capitalize your first words, proper nouns such as Laser Snifit, and write "they are" properly.

If you need more help in this area, I suggest looking at other similar articles, such as the Starbeans Cafe items, and use them as a template on what you need to do. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 13:50, December 25, 2020 (EST)

Nav templates are templates that help readers navigate through articles related to the one they are already on. See Category: Navigation templates. To upload files, go to Special: Upload and choose an image from your device. --KnightDarkNightKnight 00:01, December 26, 2020 (EST)

Your Vote[edit]

Hello, Kirbyo. In the interest of full transparency, I wanted to tell you I fixed the link on your vote in the 'Shroom Director Election so it points to your user page. I didn't change or alter your vote in any way, though. Thanks for your participation in the election process and your engagement with The 'Shroom. RE: crossword[edit]

Hey there, Kirbyo!

First, my apologies for taking so long to answer you. I'm not as active on the wiki as I am on the forum or discord, but still, thank you very much for your interest in my section! Now, to answer your question, there are a few possibilities, such as printing the image in question if you have the possibility of using a printer, or simply do it with a sheet of paper by redrawing the boxes as they are in the image. Otherwise, you can always just guess the clues, although that wouldn't really be doing the crossword properly spoken.

I hope I was able to answer you, and if you have any other questions for me, please let me know, and I will try to answer you as soon as possible this time. Other than that, have a nice day! :-) --LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK)

RE: 2021[edit]

Happy New Year to you, too, Kirbyo. I do hope this year treats you well! As you can see on the main page or on the 'Shroombox you have on your userpage, the next issue releases on January 16th. In general, the issues release on the 3rd Saturday of the month unless otherwise stated. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 08:41, January 2, 2021 (EST)

RE: You See[edit]

Not to worry, I completely understand you wanting to check and make sure everything was well with your section. Roserade knows to include it in Fun Stuff. It will be in tomorrow's issue, I guarantee. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 12:15, January 15, 2021 (EST)

RE: new to the neighborhood[edit]

Hey there! I'm so sorry for a later response, I don't tend to visit the Wiki too much these days, but I'm happy to see you here! To answer your question about being purple, our theme for the last issue was related to The Shroobs, the aliens from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. I'm excited to see your section be published tomorrow! Roserade (talk) 00:07, January 16, 2021 (EST)

RE: timing is everything[edit]

Don't mind it at all. We're working on the final preparations right now, actually. We have to upload the paper manually, so it takes a little time to get it all put together on the Wiki. You'll notice the announcement at the top of most Wiki pages change when it has fully come out. It probably will be fully out in the afternoon (or in about four or so hours, to account for timezones), but know we're working away right now! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 09:23, January 16, 2021 (EST)

Thought I'd let you know that the issue is now out, and you can find your section right here! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 11:33, January 16, 2021 (EST)

RE: a scheduled sudgestion[edit]

First, let me say that it's great that you have such a keen interest in The 'Shroom, enough even that you're interested in the schedule for the year. We will indeed be implementing some of Ninja Squid's suggestions from his campaign, and we have him working closely with us to do that. At the present time, we have no plans to make an issue themed around Luigi's Mansion a part of this year's schedule, but users have in the past drawn inspiration from it and themed their sections around it during October and they are free to do so this year. We will be incorporating some celebrations of the 15th anniversary of The 'Shroom in October, but we don't want to dilute that theme by trying to have a second theme on top of it. As for the Killing Game, I wouldn't mind seeing another one happen and I wouldn't discount that possibility, but there are no plans for more at this time. However, we will be running, in February's issue, a Feedback Survey centered around activities and games that users would like to see in the future. Please be sure to vote in that and express your hope for another Killing Game in the poll, as the results of the survey will inform our efforts to put together more activities in the coming year. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 11:13, January 21, 2021 (EST)

RE: I Need Questions[edit]

Oh, it's been a long time since I've played Super Princess Peach. The most obscure enemy in that game is the Starfish, though, so you can probably read that page and ask something about it. You could probably ask something like "Which enemy only appears in Hoo's Wood 2-5, Wavy Beach 5-5, and Gleam Glacier 6-4?". There are a lot of enemies in that game pulled from Super Mario World, too, so maybe you could ask something like "Fishing Boo made its first reappearance in Super Princess Peach. Which game did it debut in?". Maybe ask what the name of Peach's band in the game is, too (Peach Hit Five). The best thing to do is to read the page for the game and read its associated pages to get some ideas. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 16:22, January 30, 2021 (EST)

RE: My next shroom article[edit]

No problem. I will make sure Roserade gets it right away. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 18:47, January 31, 2021 (EST)

RE: Quick thing...[edit]

The reason we chose Beeheeyem was that we were going for a Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time theme, and as Beeheeyem is alien-themed, it was the perfect fit for the game. Had we not gone for that theme, I was leaning more for Vanillish, because who doesn't like some tasty ice cream? As for the roms, I just don't generally use them, besides with games with Mario DS and Mario Kart Wii, I feel like the section would be a bit less fun given that there's less variation in the choices. Yoshi876 (talk) 13:05, February 3, 2021 (EST)

RE: question[edit]

Yes indeed! We have it and you will see it in tomorrow's issue once it is uploaded and released. As always, I can't give an exact time because the process can take some time, but it will all be up fairly early tomorrow. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 20:53, February 19, 2021 (EST)

Re: photo contest[edit]

You can just use the 'Shroom email account that you use to submit your existing sections to submit the images as well! As long as it meets the guidelines of the contest, its fine. LBsig.png LB (talkeditsforum) 06:49, March 1, 2021 (EST)

RE: Hello[edit]

And a happy (belated) Mario Day to you as well, Kirbyo! I hope the day of the franchise's celebration treated you well. I know you asked about our Photo Contest, too, so I just checked, and it looks like you sent an email in but didn't attach the picture. If you want your submission to be a part of the contest, please make sure you send the picture itself attached to an email. You have until the 16th, so you have a few days left to resend it. I hope to see the shot you took! Have a nice day, Kirbyo. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 08:56, March 11, 2021 (EST)

Photo successfully received! Thank you. We'll get this into the contest. I'll be looking forward to this month's Trivia! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 14:25, March 12, 2021 (EST)

RE: Quick Clarification[edit]

Usually you should ask your Team Director (in this case, Roserade) about something like this, since they're the ones who will put your section into their team and they know their schedules and what time they'll have to put their teams together. That said, a little late is fine. If writers are late here and there, we don't hold it against them as long as they let us know in advance and it doesn't become a habit. A little late is no problem. I know Rose's schedule fairly well. As long as you get it in by the end of the day on Tuesday, you should be fine! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 15:01, March 12, 2021 (EST)

You can't just post 'Shroom sections before release. Blanking the page doesn't make the content invisible: previous revisions can still be viewed by the public. If you want to test code, use the "show preview" button while editing to see changes but don't click save changes. If you want to save your work before emailing it to Rose, then put in on a private google doc or Word document, but don't publicly post it. I've hidden the revisions you made to prevent the sections from being seen before release, though I copy-pasted your work before hand, so if you need it just email me and I'll send it. RE: New Article[edit]

He has it in his hands (or should I say flowers?) now. Thanks for submitting it! And thank you for taking Doomhiker's advice. The preview function is a great luxury to have, to let writers check their coding without publishing their articles early. Hooded Pitohui (talk) 15:54, March 14, 2021 (EDT)

RE: April[edit]

Hey, sorry! I didn't even realize I had a talk page until now, and I'm not very active on the Wiki. The best I could find for a mainline game releasing in April is Super Mario Land in Japan, or Mario Kart Wii in North America. Super Smash Bros. also came out in North America. I'm probably late on this, but I thought it might be interesting regardless. GPM1000 (talk) 00:42, March 18, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Hello![edit]

I'm working on it right now. You should see everything change over in the next few minutes on the main page and the box on your userpage! Hooded Pitohui (talk) 10:39, March 20, 2021 (EDT)

RE: star... I mean 64 wars[edit]

Why, thank you! Although I must admit that I actually wrote that paper for a college class in the spring of 2020. I later mentioned it in a community Discord server and they told me to submit to the Shroom and so I did! I think it fits quite well there. I did put a lot of work into it when I originally wrote it of course (got an A too!). -- Luigi 64DD.png (talk · edits) 00:58, April 9, 2021 (EDT)
