Powers Section

It's nice to have a power-up section, but I don't think we should say "Fire Mario" considering you can play as Luigi and Toad as well. "Fire Flower", "Penguin Suit" and the likes should do it. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:05, 2 June 2009 (EDT)

Suits? could it be a SMB3 Remake??? Mrsdaisyluigi seems a bit wierd.
No. A remake would stay true to the original. This game doesn't resemble SMB3 at all, just because it has some suits in it. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 17:19, 2 June 2009 (EDT)
How is it nescius?

Wait, you can be in a penguin suit? Can you hyperlink me a video from youtube that shows you. --Superjump4 12:36, 2 August 2009 (EDT)Superjump4

Koopalings

i found a screenshot online which could mean the koopalings could fainally return. rqvfxz.jpg CHAOS YAYZOR!!!Mini-MoSTABBED WITH A FORK!Yap-BoxBOW DOWN TO THE KOOPAS RITE NOA!!!

Morton? Sweet, so, seeing Morton... Then there'll probably be Larry, Iggy, etc... But, will they still have Bowser Jr.? Master Crash

Magik I hope so.

Here is a video that shows the fight against Morton (better detail than in the other video):

Why in the world did they add two Toads as players 3 & 4 instead of Wario and Waluigi? Skeppio 14:30, 12 June 2009 (GMT +10)

Because all characters have the same gameplay, so their bodies have the same shape. Wario is too big and Waluigi is too curvy to fit into the regular pattern. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 11:28, 12 June 2009 (EDT)

Wario fitted in fine in Super Mario 64 DS with only minor gameplay differences and Waluigi is thin and would weigh about the same as Mario & Luigi anyway. Besides, Mario and Luigi have always played slightly differently. Why the laziness now? Also, as a side note, Toads have a much greater body shape difference to Mario& Luigi than Wario & Waluigi do. Skeppio 22:30, 28 July 2009 (GMT +10)

Is this from photobucket/Imageshack? User:Yoshiaga/sig 18:17, 21 September 2009 (EDT)

Hey, I just had an idea, you know how Luigi jumps higher and has worse traction than Mario, well what if the two Toads have similar concepts, like in SMB2. TIMMY TIM

Larry Koopa Video

This video features Mario and Luigi fighting Larry Koopa:

--Grandy02 09:36, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

That's good additionial confirmation. The battle seems to have the same structure as the Bowser Jr. battles in NSMB. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 10:37, 17 June 2009 (EDT)
It reminds moar to SMB3 because Larry (and other possible Koopalings) carries a magic rod... :o

It looks like as if Larry has a blue shell now. Well, Morton's shell doesn't seem to be gray anymore, either. --Grandy02 09:55, 18 June 2009 (EDT)

Maybe Koopalings can switch shells if they're tired of the old shell's color. User:Lemmy Koopa Fan

I hope bowser jr. is in this game also. And isn't Mortan's nickname Bigmouth? --Superjump4 19:51, 31 July 2009 (EDT)Superjump4

Toads

A while ago I heard that the blue and yellow toads names were changed to Yvan (pronounced Ivan) and wolley (pronounced wally). I think we should change the names in the article but I'm not sure if these names are fake or not.--Fawfulfury65 09:01, 20 June 2009 (EDT)fawfulfury65

Sounds quite random. Only add names when you find a proper source for them. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:05, 20 June 2009 (EDT)

If I remember, I think I saw that on IGN when the people were guessing the names for the Toads, unless you found some source that offically gave the Toads a name. -RedFire Mario

Those names were made up by IGN. Not official. --Grandy02 09:58, 20 June 2009 (EDT)

Yea. That was the IGN thing I was talking about. Those names are false Fawfulfury. -RedFire Mario

Spin jump

It says that Mario's spin jump returns in the article but I don't know where that info came from. I need more proof.--Fawfulfury65 19:58, 22 June 2009 (EDT)fawfulfury65

Check out gameplay videos like this one and you can clearly see and hear players do spin jumps. They look a bit similar to the Star Spins in Galaxy. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:52, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

Yes in the videos it shows Mario doing a spin jump to counter-attack an attack from a cloud enemy.

Release Date

I found from my nearest gamestop store that NSMBwii and SMG 2's release dates. Are they offical? NSMBWii is for 11/2/09 and SMG 2 is for 1/1/10. So can we put it up? 22360415-149x149-0-0 ++The+SpongeBob+SquarePants+Movie.jpg Boo der dash 180px-MaskedDedede.png

Toad's appearance

A trivia says "This is Toad's first playable appearance in a Mario platformer since Super Mario Bros. 2. " I don't think it's correct because SMB2 had Toad the character, but these two are just generic Toads. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 13:44, 30 August 2009 (EDT)

Box-Art?

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/detail.gsp?image=http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/11/13/00/02/02/1113000202915_500X500.jpg&product_id=12509589&iIndex=1&isVariant=false&corpCard=false&type=-9223372036854775808

Could this be the box art? Luigi-Tron 3000 (talk)

Shouldn't it say "NTSC" on the box somewhere? All PAL games have "PAL" on the front of the cover next to the Nintendo logo. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 15:50, 18 September 2009 (EDT)
It's official boxart, and no, that applies to PAL games only. Skawo93 (talk)
Are you sure?,Nintendo hasn't say any about that,And the ESBR Logo are a little short...We need More Proof.--MATEOELBACAN 19:31, 21 September 2009 (EDT)
I sent them a mail, so, let's wait and see how they respond. -- Skawo93

On the other hand, it's pretty unlikely that Wal Mart mocks up their own fake box art. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 13:55, 22 September 2009 (EDT)

Hmm..I think that we must wait for their respond (It could be Placeholder),before that we must keep the logo..,and in a part of the link it says "isVariant=false". --MATEOELBACAN 16:10, 22 September 2009 (EDT)

Nintendo responds:

"To tell you the truth, I don't know if that's the official box art for the game. However, as you may already know, the game is due to be released sometime before the end of 2009. No doubt, the official art will be revealed before then." (And then usual copy-paste stuff)

So, yeah, it doesn't confirm or deny anything...skawo93

Yeah! Those people that answer E-mails at Nintendo can't help that much because they don't have that information yet. I think the cover is real, because of the new artwork of Luigi and the good background. I think we can keep the Box art on the article, but not yet at the top. If the cover art turns out to be fake we can always replace it.
I also want to say that the logo of New Super Mario Bros. Wii is made by me to look almost exactly the same as the original logo. I made this logo to act as a stand-in until the game will be released. If somebody finds an official version of the logo (with a bit of quality), please replace the logo. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

Well, keep the logo and leave that boxart in the section Box-Art and we shold wait for more information--MATEOELBACAN 20:54, 23 September 2009 (EDT)

A higher res boxart has been released. Image:3badc537.jpg
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jonny boi (talk).

Okay, but how do you know if it's the official one? Skawo93 13:15, 29 September 2009 (EDT)

The boxart is on Nintendo.com so it is 100% official! Fawfulfury65 (talk)

It could be temporary boxart used for promotional reasons. YosharioFile:Yoshi wearing mario's hat.jpg

I think it isn't temporary. And if a newer updated box appears, we can reupload it. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

Platitudinous (talk) I also agree and have evidence. If you go to this link, you'll see that the boxes for games like SMG2 and Metroid: Other M have TEMP (temporary) on the lower-right corner, but this game's box does not.

Well, this is the official Box Art but maybe Nintendo could change it some later..--MATEOELBACAN 21:35, 2 October 2009 (EDT)

Highly unlikely. But, when I visited the EU Nintendo site, the New Super Mario Bros. Wii cover was still unknown. So European cover is unknown for now.
Now something different. The North American cover of New Super Mario Bros. Wii seems to be based on the Japanese cover of New Super Mario Bros. for DS and not the American. Most of the Japanese DS game cases are black, but the Japanese game cases of NSMB were yellow instead. This was not the case with the other versions of NSMB. In North America and Australia the case was still black and in Europe still transparent. Will the New Super Mario Bros. Wii case be red instead of white? And if so, will it only count for the Japan or also for the other regions? No information about this jet. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

You called it Arend, the European cover is confirmed to have a red case. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:05, 15 October 2009 (EDT)

Yoshi's Sounds

Platitudinous (talk) I found a video and in the first 3 seconds, you hear the SMW noise when Mario gets on the yellow Yoshi.

It's true but how does this help the article? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 07:06, 1 October 2009 (EDT)
Platitudinous (talk) You're right, it's probably just a placeholder.

Demo Play

Hey, on GameFAQs there's a topic called something like "Dang, this game won't play itself." It explains what demo play actually turned out to be in the link. Seems sort of useful.

Red replaced by Pink?

I got a feeling that Nintendo replaced the Red Yoshi by a pink one (I don't like that!). If I see the new box art, the Blue Toad is riding a Pink Yoshi, while in the original artwork, it was first a Red one. Plus, in that new trailer where Nintendo made improvements, I see instead of a Red Yoshi a Pink one ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

Maybe they only added the Pink Yoshi,I don't think they erased the Red Yoshi from the game.--MATEOELBACAN 15:50, 7 October 2009 (EDT)

Most likely they recolored the original artwork. The original one has a Red Yoshi jumping, but in the box-art, it seems like they edited the original one's feet to look like it's on the ground and recolored it. It doesn't mean they replaced it, though. Many box-arts feature things not actually in the game. --MechaWave 17:57, 8 October 2009 (EDT)

IGN Handson!

Lots off new info! Such as the Mini Mushroom will return, and a Ice Flower as a new power up.

Bowser Jr.

I see Junior was added to the Enemies list. Source, if any? NMRodo 16:39, 8 October 2009 (EDT)

The source for Junior's appearance in the game is next to his entry in the Characters list. But that source doesn't confirm him as an enemy you fight in-game. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:52, 8 October 2009 (EDT)
He is an enemy, as cited by a different source (it's at the bottom of the post.) It also says it was noticeable to see Iggy and Roy atop of their respective castles. World 1 is Larry, World 2 is Roy, and Iggy is World 3. As another note, Kamek appears in the game as well. --MechaWave 18:00, 8 October 2009 (EDT)

Wait a sec, Iggy on a ball? They don't even show a image of Iggy! It sounds more like Lemmy, and they showed Lemmy from SMB3, not Iggy, unless Lemmy is now Iggy, but that would be odd, won't it? User:Luigi-Tron 3000

Well, the three artworks at the site even show Larry, Roy, and Lemmy. It's likely that they mixed Lemmy and Iggy up somehow. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 08:06, 9 October 2009 (EDT)
I think it's just an image for the readers. If Roy is in-between the castles, they couldn't have gotten mixed up. If they did, one way or another, they're both at either world 1 or world 3. On top of that, it makes me hint Bowser Jr. will be the Koopaling for world 8 castle, along with the rest of them next to Bowser, or in a different castle in relation to Bowser. --MechaWave 10:00, 9 October 2009 (EDT)

Scans

note i didnt find these she did: http://supercaterina.deviantart.com/
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kaialone (talk).

This is very good information. Good finding Kaialone and Super Caterina. Here are some things I noted.

  • Pow-Blocks return.
  • Like Super Mario Bros. 2 USA, Mario and Co. can grab things and throw them.
  • Propeller Suit got a different look. Originally, it was just a P with a propeller, but now it's a mushroom with a propeller. I think they will call it a Propeller Mushroom.
  • Artwork of the Koopalings including Bowser Jr. and Mario and Co.
  • The Koopalings kidnap Princess Peach by hiding themselves in a cake.
  • The Ice Flower is shown on this scans. No Penguin Suit is mentioned. Maybe they deleted the suit in flavor of the flower, but I don't think so.
  • Larry is battled in a different location than in the e3 demo.
  • Some Koopalings look a little different than in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World.
  • Airships appear and a Koopa Clown Car Jr.?
  • Just like Super Mario Galaxy, spins can activate some switches.
  • Boo’s look transparent in this game and Banzai Bill's apear.
  • The overworld looks a lot like in New Super Mario Bros.
  • Japanese release date is December 3th.

ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

i noticed that every Koopaling now seems to have a unique shell-colour Kaialone (talk)

Yeah, I noticed that too. Also an interesting thing to note: I once red on a Dutch website that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is going to be one of the most challenging Mario platformers, but with the new Super Guide it should be possible for everybody to beat the game.
ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

i cant wait till the game comes out XD well i dont know japanese but if anyone know japanese it woild be nice if he or she translates the new info.I wonder if Nintendo is going to treat the koopalings as Bowsers kids or if theyre going to be super mean and treat them like minions Kaialone (talk)

"Earlier" boxart

In the logos and boxart section the is an image of the boxart and in the caption it says ""Earlier boxart" or something like that, but it's the same as the boxart right now. So, why is it called the "earlier boxart" when it's the same as the "current" boxart? Fawfulfury65

It is almost the same, but it has only English text on it. The current has English, French and Spanish. Also the Earlier boxcover has the ESRB RP logo instead of E. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

North American Box?

NSMBWIIREDFOTO.jpg
Does this picture say enough? The North American box also has a red Wii frame. But on the website of Nintendo America, the show the box with a white frame and another with a red frame. I say we keep the boxcover we have now on top of the page and if a newer version comes up, we reupload it. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits)

Yes, I noticed that a while ago and put it in the article already. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 12:43, 21 October 2009 (EDT)
I uploaded the real box art with red frames, but somebody replaced it with its white-framed one. I say we change it back. --MechaWave 17:50, 21 October 2009 (EDT)

No I think it should stay the same because we aren't exactly sure. If the red frame is seen in other wesites such as Walmart.com or Gamestop.com then we should put it on. Fawfulfury65

Why? That's an awful reason. It's going to be sold in stores with red frames, the official site has red frames for its box art, Amazon has it, Game Trailers has it, etc. Walmart still has the old version of the box art. When the box art was released, no one knew it would have red frames until the picture above was released. --MechaWave 18:28, 21 October 2009 (EDT)

Ok now that there's more websites that show the red frame so that should be added. Fawfulfury65
