Merging this article

After observing the edit history of the Game Guy's Sweet Surprise article, I found that Somethingone had mentioned the Spike Koopa article as a separate article for a character that only appears in a single minigame. After thinking about this, I now believe that the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp do indeed warrant their own character article; it wouldn't be redundant because the more detailed mechanics of Game Guy's Sweet Surprise are explained in the minigame's own article. However, should the quotes and the gallery from the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp article also be displayed in the Game Guy's Sweet Surprise article? The quotes technically also qualify as in-game text, and the icons of the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp appear in the minigame itself. --ThePowerPlayer (talk) 20:56, August 9, 2022 (EDT)

Forgive my inexperience, but what does "LoO" stand for? If we were to merge this article with one or more of the articles about Chain Chomps (so as not to reiterate the Quotes and Gallery sections verbatim), even though the Japanese name for the Big Chomp (Biggu Wanwan) matches the name of the Chomp Shark, it fits the description of a Big Chain Chomp much better than a Chomp Shark; it's simply a large Chain Chomp attached to a chain and post, rather than a gigantic Chain Chomp without a chain. The Little Chomp does fit the description of a regular Chain Chomp, though. --ThePowerPlayer (talk) 10:16, August 10, 2022 (EDT)

"Language of origin." I prefer to separate Yoshi-debuting "Biggu" enemies from the standard large fare since, for instance, Kyodai/Dai/Deka Pakkun and Biggu Pakkun are officially treated as distinct. The fact that "Biggu Wanwan" was kept for YNI despite contemporary games using "Deka Wanwan" leads me to believe they are still considered distinct ("Biggu" seems reserved for really big things here). While the trend of "Biggu" being reserved for enormous enemies such as Biggu Wanwan and Biggu Pakkun does point to those enemies being distinct, it's also more evidence that the Big Chomp, while sharing the same Japanese name as Chomp Sharks, is more closely related to either a Big Chain Chomp or a regular Chain Chomp: the Big Chomp is not enormous, it's only a little larger than the Little Chomp, and in fact barely any larger than Game Guy. Additionally, both the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp are already described in the Chain Chomp article. Therefore, my suggestion would be that the summary of the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp article should be moved to the Mario Party 3 section of the Chain Chomp article (with a sentence or two describing how the Big Chomp's name is the same name used for Chomp Sharks), and the Quotes and Gallery sections should be moved to the Game Guy's Sweet Surprise article (the quotes can also be listed under List of Mario Party 3 quotes, and the gallery images can also appear in Gallery:Chain Chomp and Gallery: Mario Party 3. --ThePowerPlayer (talk) 21:52, August 10, 2022 (EDT)

In my opinion, having a separate article about the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp are unnecessary, as they are two generic Chain Chomps that only appear in a single minigame (Game Guy's Sweet Surprise) in a single game (Mario Party 3), and they only receive distinct names through a single quote from Game Guy; therefore, any information about the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp should be moved to the Mario Party 3 section of the Chain Chomp article, so as to avoid reiterating the Game Guy's Sweet Surprise article in the Big Chomp and Little Chomp article (the quotes from the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp would be better suited under the "In-game text" header of the Game Guy's Sweet Surprise article). Somethingone has pointed out that separate articles do exist for characters that only appear in a single minigame, such as Spike Koopa, while Doc von Schmeltwick has explained how the original Japanese name for the Big Chomp ("Biggu Wanwan") suggests that even if we were to merge the article, information about the Big Chomp should be under the Chomp Shark article. However, in this case, the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp are not unique characters like Spiked Koopas, nor do they have as many similarities to Chomp Sharks as regular Chain Chomps; they are both simply Chain Chomps attached to chains, while Chomp Sharks are extremely large and chainless. Additionally, although Big Chain Chomp also refers to especially large Chain Chomps, the Big Chomp isn't especially large (it's barely larger than Game Guy), and the term "the Big Chomp" has already been used to describe the generic Chain Chomp from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, which does not have a separate article from other generic Chain Chomps. Since the Japanese name for the Little Chomp is "Wanwan", or simply "Chain Chomp", I find that this is enough evidence for both the Big Chomp and the Little Chomp to be described in the regular Chain Chomp article.

1. 7feetunder (talk) Second option. I'd rather do this than merge with Chomp Shark, which would be blatant name-centrism. "Big [X]" is a completely generic naming scheme that in no way ties the two together. Even if we do end up merging Chomp Shark with Big Chain Chomp (something I wouldn't be opposed to doing, especially considering how the SPP section sticks out like a sore thumb), I don't think we should base our decision on the assumption that it will happen. Assuming will just make an... Well, you know the saying.
2. Koopa con Carne (talk) Per 7feetunder. I would have preferred a merging between Big Chomp and Chomp Shark if they shared a Japanese name and said Japanese name was something a little more peculiar to Chomp Shark, but as it stands Biggu is still too generic for the wiki to assume the two entities were intended to be the same individual or of the same variety.

"Big Chain Chomp" wasn't really distinct from Chomp Shark until YNI decided to bring back the original name and behavior, MP3 in general doesn't care whether Chomps are chained or not (eg the helper one), and when it comes right down to it we can merge Chomp Shark and Big Chain Chomp later. 2. Arend (talk) Keep in mind that the Big Chain Chomp from Super Princess Peach is ALSO merged to Chomp Shark, and that the behavior of that one is also quite different compared to Chomp Sharks in Yoshi's Island.
