Captain Olimar
'Pikmin as depected in official artwork alongside Olimar.

Pikmin are the main species and namesake of the video game series, Pikmin. They make cameo appearances in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and WarioWare: Smooth Moves, where they would pop out of the ground if the ball was hit in a flower patch. On top of this cameo, Pikmin appear as Captain Olimar's exclusive assist characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Although not exactly playable, Olimar is completely helpless if he does not pluck Pikmin from the ground. Without them, Olimar can't even use a Smash Attack, so Pikmin must always be out on the field if Olimar is to be used properly. However, the Pikmin may also scatter across the stage, making it hard for Olimar to attack correctly. If these problems are countered, Olimar is able to battle his opponents. The characteristics of the Pikmin — both their colors and the plants on their heads — may play a role in the gameplay.

Trophy Description in Super Smash Bros. Melee

These strange beings are part plant, part animal. They spend most of their time buried in the earth, but they will befriend whoever plucks them, as evidenced by their devotion to Captain Olimar. Each Pikmin has a leaf on its head that grows into a bud and finally a flower. Like a flower, the life of a Pikmin is both fragile and beautiful.
