I think everything within a fictional medium that is derived from a real-life base is intuitively understood to be a representation of "X", and it is not a helpful clarification. The vast majority of the site is dedicated to fictional subjects. The only ones that are not, like those for the developers or voice actors, are readily apparent. For this case, a recurring fictional flower, it is the equivalent of saying "Donkey Kong is a representative of a gorilla in the Super Mario franchise", rather than saying "Donkey Kong is a gorilla in the Super Mario franchise". Split Fluff and Floaty Fluff

The ones from Super Mario Sunshine (large floating seed, similar to the ones from Galaxy, that go by "フワフワわたげ" in-game) and Super Mario 3D Land (the little naturalistic-looking dandelions) both go by わたげ (Watage) in the encyclopedia. Is the one from Super Mario Sunshine the same subject as the ones from the Galaxy games or the ones from 3D Land and 3D World? - Nintendo101 (talk) 16:27, December 31, 2024 (EST)

The one in the Galaxy games, of course, since they're huge seeds that float through the air while you hang onto them, being blown from one place to another. The SM3DL-onward one is just a stylized-but-otherwise-normal dandelion. Remember what you yourself said regarding the SMB3 cannons, and how it would be more appropriate to split the "forward" ones despite them being treated as the "normal" cannons for that game (and thus sharing the name with the later games' diagonal ones). And in this case, one is borderline-generic and the other is entirely fictitious; this would be like including an appearance of a Barrel Cannon in the normal barrel article in a game that simply listed it as "barrel," in my view. I think the difference here is that there is no game that includes both small, naturalistic dandelions and one that including the larger, wind-borne dandelions, so I don’t see as much of a conflict here. They are totally different things that happen to be based on the same real-life subject, one of which only loosely; they have about as much in common as either do with banandelion. I do think at least the Galaxy one where Mario rides on should be split off. The naming scheme is pretty distinct, "Floaty Fluff". That one just seem to have pretty clearly defined gameplay function, name, and appearance. I'm not sure where that leaves the Sunshine one, but since that doesn't have a particularly specific name I do think it's fine for now to leave it merged with the pretty and cute ambient ones. 🍃 It's me, Mario! Split Floaty Fluffs

Different mechanics, different uses, and even different names. While both are clearly inspired by the same plant, the difference between the giant fluff that you can hold on to and glide through the air and the decorative environmental fluff is noticeable. I think handling them on separate pages is overall better, both for organizing the information in general and for the naming section. After all, this allows us to have more pages; who could say no to that? The sections that will be split are those for Sunshine and both Galaxies, although, based on the discussion above, I'll add an extra option to exclude the Sunshine ones from the split.

EvieMaybe (talk) one's a decorative element, the other's a distinct platforming game mechanic. as someone unfamiliar with Sunshine, i don't know if those should share a page with the Galaxy fluffs or be split into a separate page, but they definitely should not be in the page for the decorative dandelions.
4. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - The Galaxy ones clearly functionally derive from the Sunshine ones in name and function, even if it isn't exactly 1-1; both are a climbable, ridable dandelion seed that moves with the wind. The 3DL-onward ones, meanwhile, are a small interactive decoration much closer to actual dandelions.
