The BomBom Cup, also Romanized as Bom² Cup, is an original cup that appears in Super Mario Kart 1 of the Super Mario Kodansha manga. Its icon is Bondai (ボン太), the mascot of the Comic BomBom.
The cup is divided in two parts: the qualification heat and the final heat. The former is a simple 1-lap race, located in what it looks to be one of Mario Circuits, judging by the pipes in the middle of the road. This race has the goal to determine the starting position during the final heat. The final heat is the actual race, that goes through Donut Plains, Choco Island, Ghost Valley, and lastly Bowser's Castle.
The winner of the race will get a money prize of 10 million yens. To pay back a royal vase they broke, Mario and Luigi enrolls into the race, followed by Princess Peach (who spent all her pocket money to make two cars to team up with Mario, before throwing a jealous fit in seeing Lady with him and ultimately teaming up with Yoshi instead), and Donkey Kong Jr., financially aided by his father, both eager to get revenge for what they endured by Mario's hand in Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. Bowser joins later, joining forces with the Kongs to humiliate and maybe killing Mario, but when Bowser puts Junior's life at risk, Donkey Kong breaks up this alliance and even aids Mario, who even risked losing the race to take Junior to the hospital after a terrible car crash. Also, Toad and a Koopa Troopa are also taking part in the race as a team (that later split), but remains mostly behind everyone due to their poorly designed kart.
Of the cup's staff, three people have a relevant role: Furutachi Kuribō as the announcer, Lady as the lead pit crew, and Kinoppe as the flag bearer. No Lakitus works, but at one point, Peach pays some of them to be fished out of the lava alongside the other pilots.
In the end, Mario wins the race, Luigi gets second place, and Peach third place. Mario gets the money prize, but in paying back Lady's services, Junior's medical bill, and the damages done to the courses, he remains without money. Luckily for him, the vase he broke is revealed to be a worthless stand-in.
