Revision as of 14:30, January 11, 2022

This article is about the character from Kingdom Hearts. For the game company, see Sora Ltd.

Template:Character-infobox Sora is the protagonist of the crossover video game series Kingdom Hearts by Disney and Square Enix. The series pits him fighting alongside and against various Disney and Final Fantasy characters, including Cloud Strife and Sephiroth. Sora wields a Keyblade as his weapon of choice. Sora holds the distinction of being the last DLC character added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.[1]

History

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Template:SSB Infobox Template:Main-external On October 5, 2021, Sora was announced to be the last DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and was released alongside his home stage Hollow Bastion as part of Challenger Pack 11 on October 18, 2021. According to Sakurai in Sora's reveal trailer, Sora was the real winner of the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot held in 2015 for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS; though the contest concluded with Bayonetta being added to the game, Sakurai stated that this was because Sora was not considered a realistic option at the time.[1] Sakurai has stated that Sora was originally not going to be part of the game and that there were only supposed to be five fighters in Fighters Pass 2. He stated that he met a Disney representative that was open to the idea, and after some discussions, they decided to add him as an extra character.[2] He is the only fighter to be owned by Disney, as well as the fourth fighter from Square Enix (following Cloud, Hero, and Sephiroth).

Sora is a lightweight character who possesses a unique midair jump, ascending a further distance in a curved trajectory in a similar manner to Ness or Mewtwo. If Sora wins a stamina battle, the screen will zoom in and slowly fade to white, a reference to the victory animation that occurs when defeating a boss in the Kingdom Hearts series.

All of Sora's alternate costumes are based on each of his outfits in the series. While the default one is from the first Kingdom Hearts, the second one is from Kingdom Hearts II, third from Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and fourth from Kingdom Hearts III. The rest are various forms of him from the games; the fifth, sixth and seventh are the Timeless River form, the Valor Form and Wisdom Form from Kingdom Hearts II respectively, and the eighth and last is the Ultimate Form from Kingdom Hearts III.

Classic Mode route

All matches in Sora's Classic Mode route are Stamina battles, except for the final round.

Special moves

Magic

Template:Main-external Magic is Sora's neutral special attack. It encompasses three different elemental spells, Firaga, Thundaga, and Blizzaga, which cycle around in that order upon usage.

Firaga shoots a single fireball from Sora's Keyblade, and can be repeatedly performed by continuing to press the attack input button. Thundaga calls down three clouds to shoot electricity down in a straight line, which can hit up to three times. Blizzaga shoots a stream of ice particles which freeze the opponent upon contact.

Sonic Blade

Template:Main-external Functioning as Sora's side special, Sonic Blade allows Sora to dash forward with his Keyblade up to three times, allowing him to target opponents similarly to Sonic's Homing Attack. The first use of this move only lets Sora move sideways, while the second and third uses enable Sora to move in any direction.

Aerial Sweep

Template:Main-external Aerial Sweep is Sora's up special move. Sora performs a rising spin while slashing with his Keyblade, which can be influenced to move left or right. If performed on the ground, Sora jumps off to perform the attack. The attack can be followed up with Sonic Blade after its ascent is complete.

Counterattack

Template:Main-external Counterattack is Sora's down special, enabling him to counter attacking opponents with an upward Keyblade slash if they attack during his counter stance. Unlike typical counter moves, Counterattack forces affected opponents to enter a stunned animation.

Final Smash

Sealing the Keyhole

Sora's Final Smash, Sealing the Keyhole

Template:Main-external Sealing the Keyhole enables Sora to shoot a Keyhole portal from his Keyblade, which sucks up to three opponents inside and manifests a large door with the Super Smash Bros. sigil. The door sucks the opponents inside and closes, while Sora fires a beam of light into the door's keyhole. Sora then turns around and poses while the sealed door explodes with the fighters inside.

This Final Smash deals around 60% damage, and instantly defeats opponents with over 100% damage accumulated.

Profiles

Palutena's Guidance

Sora shares this stock conversation with all other Fighters Pass characters. It was originally used for Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, who are downloadable fighters in that game.

  • Pit: Who is THAT?
  • Palutena: I have no data on this fighter. I can't believe it!
  • Viridi: It must be an intruder from another dimension!
  • Pit: Whoever it is, the goal remains the same: to fight and win!
