Their name comes from ''Ankirosaurusu'' (アンキロサウルス), the Japanese spelling of the dinosaur name ''{{wp|Ankylosaurus}}''. In English, their name may be interpreted as a portmanteau combining the first three letters of said dinosaur name with the word "iron".


Wario also comments that they smell like feet in the official American ''Wario World'' instruction manual.
