YFJ's Talk Pages
World 1: In which YFJ joins the wiki, the forums, and the 'Shroom
World 2: In which YFJ starts tackling big projects (current)

Hello! This is my talk page. Talk to me about anything you want here, but remember to follow these rules.

 1. My username may be a bit loooooooooong; you can call me YFJ. Please do not call me by my real name.
 2. I have no restrictions on what you can talk about here, although I also have a forum account (link on my user page). Just follow the below rules.
 3. No vandalism, flaming, spamming, swearing, or cursing; else I will edit out the content and give you a warning.
 4. If I reverted your edit, check the page history before protesting the revert here.
 5. Try to use okay grammar here. While I don't demand perfect grammar, I should at least be able to read your message.
 6. Sign your comments. If you forget, I'll add the unsigned template. Don't add it yourself.
 7. I will always reply on my talk page unless you ask me to do otherwise.
 8. Friend requests are allowed and I will usually accept. Just remember that I should at least have some acquaintance with you on the wiki.
 9. Remember to follow all rules listed here.

Have fun! -YFJ (talk · edits)

RE: Mini Mario & Friends Worlds[edit]

I think doing a joint project would be a great idea! I'm not exactly the best at writing articles either, but I'll take a look at the Star World article you made and see if anything needs fixing. I have to go to class in a little bit and I get back really late, so I may or may not be on tonight again depending on how tired I am. LuigiMaster123's signature icon. LuigiMaster123 20:17, 13 February 2018 (EST)

I'm back! I was wondering if you would be okay with splitting the worlds into halves (ie, I could make Barrel Blast Jungle to Balloon Float Castle and you could make Mushroom Hills to Star World or something like that.) Let me know what you think. LuigiMaster123's signature icon. LuigiMaster123 02:35, 14 February 2018 (EST)
Yeah, both the normal and gold versions can be found here. LuigiMaster123's signature icon. LuigiMaster123 02:44, 14 February 2018 (EST)
I think creating a separate page for the main levels would be a good idea, but it could be something like List of Main Levels in Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge or something like that instead of just Main Levels. LuigiMaster123's signature icon. LuigiMaster123 16:57, 17 February 2018 (EST)
Since the main levels are all pretty separated from each other in-game, I think treating it as a list is the best choice. LuigiMaster123's signature icon. LuigiMaster123 21:51, 17 February 2018 (EST)
BTW, for the next worlds you create, I would recommend making the table using the coding that I used in the first five worlds (Level first, then Preview, Description, and Enemies and obstacles encountered), to be consistent. I have already fixed this up for Gravity Galaxy and Star World. LuigiMaster123's signature icon. LuigiMaster123 18:31, 25 February 2018 (EST)

RE: About the surfing images[edit]

I just refreshed Special:NewFiles. I think we were both working on the same thing at the same time without knowing. XD Anyways, the current edits I have done are sufficient. Thanks for the 3DS version screenshot. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:29, 17 February 2018 (EST)

RE: Mario Open redirect[edit]

I believe I created that because that is what Mario Golf for Nintendo 64 says the course name is in Tournament mode. When you start the tournament, Mario Star is the first hole. Also, the logos look similar (practice vs. tournament). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 10:31, 22 February 2018 (EST)

Hi! Is it ok if I use your userbox? PowerKamek's Signature(talk|contribs) 13:51, 22 February 2018 (EST)

Sure! I’ll also use your userbox, if you have one. -YFJ (talk · edits) 13:53, 22 February 2018 (EST)

Hi ! Can i use me too ?
Toad render.gif 📑Contribs|💬Talk

Generally you should have at least some interaction with another user before making a friend request, but we can be friends. For my friend box, go here. I’ll go ahead and use your friend box. -YFJ (talk · edits) 13:09, 25 March 2018 (EDT)

Hold up there[edit]

Whenever I hear someone say "Super Mario," they always mean the form, not the series. So if anything's gonna be moved there, it should be that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:34, 9 March 2018 (EST)

Well, I can’t move anything until an admin deletes the destination pages. There is the option of adding the form to the about template at the top of the page, but we have a bit of time to reach an agreement on what to move: this, this, or this.
Well since the form is what's going to be the intent when someone someone searches "Super Mario" by a wide margin, it should be what gets the main non-identifiered version. Whenever I ask people off-site what Super Mario is, they say "the big Mario." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:41, 9 March 2018 (EST)
Just to be safe, I think we should move Super Mario (disambiguation). -YFJ (talk · edits) 23:44, 9 March 2018 (EST)
That's probably the absolute safest thing to do, yes. I thought it was one prior, guess not. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:51, 9 March 2018 (EST)
Anyways, building off of what Porple said in his talk page, a "general consensus" can't be built in twenty minutes. You need to have input from a variety of people, and in my time zone it's almost 11:00 PM. People keep various schedules and are from all around the world. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:59, 9 March 2018 (EST)
Okay, I see. I guess I was just oblivious of the fact that I was talking with only one guy. Well, the disambiguation page has now been moved. -YFJ (talk · edits) 00:03, 10 March 2018 (EST)
Technically, two people. Both of whom spoke only once. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:33, 10 March 2018 (EST)

One was an enemy that has appeared in three fairly-popular games. The other is a projectile used rarely by one boss in one largely-unpopular game. So the M&L one could probably have kept the identifier. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:39, 20 June 2018 (EDT)

That may be true, although we don't judge identifiers by popularity as far as I know. And if I remember correctly, the Beanies in YNI were regular enemies as well as projectiles. Also, three M&L games? I only know of one (not counting Dream Team, as that has Gold Beanies). -YFJ (talk · edits) 23:58, 20 June 2018 (EDT)

how do i use the userbox that lets everyone know the can use them?[edit]

just tell me what to write [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 20:26, 2 July 2018 (EDT)

The code is as follows:

It will look like this:

Come to think of it, this is really the only userbox I've borrowed from another user. Whatever, it says it's free use, so it doesn't really matter. In the future, it might help you to press "view source" or "edit" to see a page's code. But anyway, enjoy your new userbox! -YFJ (talk · edits) 22:17, 2 July 2018 (EDT)
Thank you!!! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 10:25, 3 July 2018 (EDT)

Oh, hey there! Just noticed that both of our names are from Yoshi and use that same sprite. What do you think about my signature? Red for userpage, blue for my talk page, and green for my contributions. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 07:02, 17 September 2018 (EDT)

Ha, that's cool! Yoshi must be a pretty popular character. And I haven't really seen that sprite used in many signatures, so I think it's cool that we both use it. Your signature is pretty colorful as well. I like it. -YFJ (talk · edits) 10:45, 17 September 2018 (EDT)
Maybe, we could add a friend box eachother. Mine's code is:

Hello there! My name is WeirdDave13. I wanted to just stop by and say hey.

Feel free to respond whenever!

Hey WeirdDave13! What would you like to talk about? I like your new sig, by the way. (And yes, Yoshi is the best. Obviously.) -YFJ (talk · edits) 22:32, 7 October 2018 (EDT)
Since I'm the only person who plays Mario Maker anymore, I gave your levels a try and have to admit they're way better than mine. All of them got a star :)

Item Box in Mario Kart 8 WeirdDave13 (talk · edits) 23:06, 7 0ctober 2018 (EDT)

I still play Mario Maker as well; it's a really good game. Although I always hated the Expert 100 Mario...those levels are terribly designed. Some user-created levels are great, but not those. My levels...I've made better ones that didn't quite make the online cut for some reason. I'm currently working on a Ghost House labyrinth level (currently unnamed) and hopefully that will get into Course World! -YFJ (talk · edits) 03:35, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
I actually also play Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 03:55, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
Looks like a lot of people still play Mario Maker. Just to let you know, the 3DS version does not let you search for specific levels, nor does it let you upload levels, so we won't be able to share levels between each other. Not smart of them to remove those features, but overall Mario Maker 3DS is a pretty decent port. -YFJ (talk · edits) 04:06, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
Yeah, besides that I guess it's decent. I know it's late, but still, congrats for getting into the 'Shroom. I'm thinking of applying for Countdowns myself.

Ha, thanks! It's not that tough to get into the Shroom; just make sure that you demo section is well-written and complies with the manual of style, and you're all set. -YFJ (talk · edits) 12:40, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
:) you wanna be friends?

Does that vote you made end the propolsal? [-]€40 vv@(talk · edits)Hyperluigi.gif 12:37, April 27, 2019 (EDT)

The proposal goes on until May 3, at which date the proposal will fail unless there are two more supporters than opposers. -YFJ (talk · edits) 12:42, April 27, 2019 (EDT)

Thank you a lot for helping me on the boards start that up but could we be friends??? [-]€40 vv@(talk · edits)Hyperluigi.gif 22:18, May 12, 2019 (EDT)

Okay, sure! My friend box is on my userpage, in the "My Friend Userbox" section. -YFJ (talk · edits) 01:03, May 13, 2019 (EDT)

The source is the unreleased games section of the list of Apple IIGS games. Lord Falafel (talk) 13:48, June 14, 2019 (EDT)

You are talking about the Wikipedia list, correct? That piece of information remains unsourced, and as Wikipedia is a wiki just like ours, it's possible that some troll could have just posted their own name or something, or even a good-faith user who found another unreliable source on the Internet. We'd have to find another, more reliable source and use that.
EDIT: Seeing as the Apple IIGS games were removed anyway due to being unofficial fan games, I guess it doesn't really matter anymore. Just keep this in mind in the future, and make sure to cite your sources (and in case you're not sure how to do that, check out MarioWiki:Citations). Thanks! -YFJ (talk · edits) 15:34, June 14, 2019 (EDT)

RE: Dr. Mario proposal[edit]

I haven't voted on it because I don't feel strongly about it any particular way. I was going to wait and see what further arguments were made, but frankly I feel the arguments on both sides have been pretty weak so far and haven't swayed me one way or the other. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 18:44, July 27, 2019 (EDT)

AlphaDream citation[edit]

Basically, Jack of all Controllers have proven themselves to be unreliable. Firstly, they only appeared all over social randomly with their news article, so unlike a big news site like Nintendo Life or IGN, they need to actually give proof, or at least say, that they have insider information to be believable. The tweet that they cite for Alpha being bankrupt links back to their own Twitter (or at least, should, but while the link is dead it is clear where it is meant to go). Finally, look at this tweet and Glowsquid's comments. It's not for the exact thing you're referencing, but still something similar, and it shows how the news site fails to provide sources and gives wrong comparisons. Plus, according to Glowsquid, the editor in chief blocked him, something rather immature of a major part of a news site to do over someone rightfully protesting their tweet. You can ask for proof if you want to. Basically, I don't think that Jack of all Controllers is the best site to trust or cite. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 15:57, October 9, 2019 (EDT)

I see. I changed the source to link to the tweet directly (which actually wasn't from their twitter), but I don't know anything about their credibility so you might want to check that. -YFJ (talk · edits) 16:11, October 9, 2019 (EDT)
My mistake, the tweet in question that they cited mentioned their news article, but didn't cite it, although the rest about what I said about Jack of all Controllers being unreliable is still true. However, the tweet in question is made by someone who apparently has a lot of clout so I can be more confidant in keeping that source. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 16:18, October 9, 2019 (EDT)
This was the linked tweet in question; he was indeed replying to that tweet, not citing it. Thanks for the info about JoAC, won't cite them in the future, but I think the current source is pretty credible. -YFJ (talk · edits) 16:45, October 9, 2019 (EDT)
