Awards Director Election

Here is where you can post your campaign! Have fun, and good luck!

Candidates

Roserade/Hooded Pitohui

Greetings, beautiful Awards nomination readers! Guess who’s back, back again

My name is Rose, and I am once again running for the Directorship position for the Awards Committee. Last year was my first time taking the helm, and though there were many successes in our season, there are plenty of refinements we can make. With your permission, I would love another year to smooth out those rough edges, get some more Awards leadership experience, and continue to serve this great community! This time around, my Sub-Director running-mate is Hooded Pitohui (talk), a close partner in this community with whom I’ve worked on several projects, including The ‘Shroom (in reversed directorship roles). He’ll have more to say below. However, I would be remiss not to mention the full directorship team we’re looking to make. The two of us intend to work closely alongside Waluigi Time (talk) and Lakituthequick (talk), two other trusted and resourceful community leaders. With them crammed into our Clown Car as Staff Consultants, we’re certain to have a successful directorship run!

Hello, all you readers of Awards campaigns! It's Hooded Pitohui here! If I'm given the chance to go on at length, I undoubtedly will go on at length, so I'm going to leave most of the words to Rose! As a quick rundown, I've been 'Shroom Director in 2020, 2021, and 2023, I was Awards Sub-Director in 2022 under Superchao, and even last year I was closely working with Rose, Lakituthequick, Waluigi Time, and the rest of the AC as Community Awards host. More importantly, we received some detailed, quality feedback at the end of 2023's Awards season, and taking that into consideration for this year, I'm certain, are going to let us make Awards 2024 an even smoother year! But I'll turn it back over to Rose so they can tell you more specifics!

You might notice that this is a different directorship premise than what was proposed last year, with last year’s intention being a less centralized sense of directorship, and instead spreading responsibility across the full committee. Rest assured, we are not intending to return all burdens back to our shoulders; committee members will be more than welcome to undertake any responsibilities they’d be interested in pursuing, be it community outreach, document organization, Discord server management, you name it!

Campaign Goals and Considerations

The following points are of utmost importance to our campaign. A huge thank you goes out to all community members who gave their feedback to last year’s season – having your responses has been a great help in conceptualizing this year!

  • Continue to refine our Awards Presentations schedule: Last year’s readjustment of the presentations timeline seems to have generally been a positive change, but refinement can be done to create a stronger sense of timeline. We’ll be looking to have the work timeframe for general presentations be five weeks long, with two weeks reserved for backups and potential extensions (more in the next point). This will be in comparison to the 6:1 ratio that occurred last year, and should give more space for potential backup presenters to put together those presentations.
  • Grant more leniency with presentation deadlines: In an effort to ensure the timeline for deadlines was upheld, we did not give a sense of leniency when it came to actually getting presentations in on the deadline. This year, we will look towards being forward with granting extensions, with certain qualifiers in mind to determine if the extension should be granted. We will also be looking into granting leniency with check-in dates, which we’ll explain more in-detail once our system is further solidified.
  • Continue to incorporate Bonus Stars and other fun projects: Bonus Stars were a success in the last Awards Ceremony, though their inclusion was a bit of a last-minute push. With their foundation set this year, we’ll work to incorporate them throughout the process instead of at the end, and we will keep an open consideration for other unique concepts that might arise.
  • Keep with our Discord server presence: The Awards Discord server will continue to be maintained and utilized for meetings and events. There has been an interest with other community leaders to expand the scope of the Discord server, and we will happily contribute to these conversations, though we cannot make any promises to this effect at this time.
  • Maintain an intentional balance of community energy and awards work: No returning to 60 polls this year, no sir! We believe we have reached a comfortable range of spectacle and effort for the Awards Season, but as with all things, we will remain cognizant and receptive to what our community is telling us.
  • Do all the other things: We will do all of the other things.

Though these are our primary considerations as we move into this upcoming year, we will continue to reevaluate, accept feedback, and reconsider what our next Awards Season can look like. If elected, you can trust our team to represent this community and its interests as much as possible - what would Awards be without each and every one of you, after all?

We hope to bring another successful Awards Season to the MarioWiki community, so please consider tossing us a vote! Take care, and in the wise words of winstein: Thank you for reading.
