Can you change my username there to Kaptain K. Rool? My username there is Liamroche.  Kaptain K. Rool

Mario Games

DO you play Mario games?  Kaptain K. Rool

I sure do. --Steve (talk)   16:40, 27 February 2011 (EST)

Hi

Why can't we ask for sysop powers? Also I have tagged some pages for deletion so will you please kindly delete it? Thx  Kaptain K. Rool

Because I'm sure a lot of people want to be a sysop, and the administration has better things to do than field all those requests. Being a good user gets you there; it's not something that you ask for and then receive. Also the images will be taken care of at some point; you don't need to notify me about them. --Steve (talk)   16:21, 28 February 2011 (EST)
My apologies sir. I am just wondering why we can't ask. Even if I want to be one. I wont ask so I will work for it even if it will take like 2-3 years...  Kaptain K. Rool
Why don't we have many sysops on here even if users such as BabyLuigiOnFire are good-faith users? That doesn't make much sense to me >-<. When will my sysop privilige time come?  Kaptain K. Rool
You're looking at it backwards. We don't make all good users sysops. Instead, when we decide to add a sysop, we choose a good user. Becoming a sysop is not something you should be concerned about at all. Your time may never come because you're already thinking about it too much. --Steve (talk)   20:58, 4 March 2011 (EST)

Fix

Can you fix the Template:Affiliates plz. Thx  Kaptain K. Rool

Template:Block

I have done a mistake on this wiki seeing that I have put block templates all over the wiki on many banned users. Do you mind helping out doing it seeing that I am not a sysop.  Kaptain K. Rool
It's alright. We have the situation under control. -   Gabumon(talk) 16:01, 5 March 2011 (EST)

Hi

Do you play fourth generation PokEmon games? If so what is your FC?  Kaptain K. Rool
I played Diamond when it came out but not anymore. --Steve (talk)   14:53, 6 March 2011 (EST)
OK... you don't have it anymore or you don't play it  Kaptain K. Rool
Don't play it. --Steve (talk)   14:55, 6 March 2011 (EST)
Sorry sir, I was just thinking of a real life talk while trading Pokemon or having a battle, but that is what I was thinking so yeah. Also my Wi-Fi is secured so I can't do it. Sorry dude :/.  Kaptain K. Rool

Sitenotice

Can we bring it back? --Knife (talk) 15:21, 6 March 2011 (EST)

It would only be visible to logged-in users. --Steve (talk)   21:56, 6 March 2011 (EST)
That's fine. Could be useful for editing tips and policy changes.--Knife (talk) 23:43, 6 March 2011 (EST)
What does it do?

  PHOENIX (talkedits) 00:29, 7 March 2011 (EST)

It's just a message atop every page, and sysops use it to keep the community informed. --Steve (talk)   00:32, 7 March 2011 (EST)
Alright, sounds good to me! :)

  PHOENIX (talkedits) 00:38, 7 March 2011 (EST)

P.S. - But if you don't mind me asking, what does he mean by "bring it back?"

  PHOENIX (talkedits) 00:54, 7 March 2011 (EST)

It was a feature originally, visible to users and guests, but was disabled due to guest caching. We still cache guest stuff; that's why it can be brought back for those logged-in. --Steve (talk)   08:47, 7 March 2011 (EST)

Yo Steve

Cool new sitenotice feature. I would love to have that as a feature. What Mario games do you own? I can't list them all cuz there is too many.  Kaptain K. Rool

All the big releases beginning with the SNES. --Steve (talk)   08:47, 7 March 2011 (EST)

Hi

Do you mind fixing the user Double Redirects please seeing that I am no sysop? Thanks...  Kaptain K. Rool
BTW can you change my username? Thanks...
No; don't come to me for such mundane tasks. --Steve (talk)   16:19, 7 March 2011 (EST)
Not even change my username? See here for info.  Kaptain K. Rool

You've already used your two renames; see you in 2012. --Steve (talk)   16:28, 7 March 2011 (EST)

What do you mean 2012?  Kaptain K. Rool
Only two name changes per year. Next time, think before you waste them.   MrConcreteDonkey 16:31, 7 March 2011 (EST)

Sitenotice suggestion

You can put "Did you know?" facts, "Mario & Nintendo News", latest proposals, featured articles, etc. with random template. Also, to make it easier, link a template from MediaWiki:Sitenotice (like Sitenotice). SWFlash

I hope the content will be more specific than main page stuff or random stuff. Can you explain how editing a template is easier than editing a MediaWiki page? I don't follow. --Steve (talk)   12:55, 8 March 2011 (EST)
MediaWiki: Only sysops can edit it. Template: You can choose who can edit it. I've suggested the random stuff because there's barely anything to put in the sitenotice. SWFlash
It would be a sysop-only thing anyway, and I think it was used decently before we got rid of it. Every now and then sysops will ask for its return, so they must have something to say. I just don't want it to become the random fun fact at the top of the page. --Steve (talk)   14:21, 8 March 2011 (EST)

Porplemontage.com

What is that website about?  Kaptain K. Rool

Spam filter on Pikmin Fanon

Can you unblock all of the "blacklisted" words on Pikmin Fanon? It turns out some of them are on valid pages (such as your talk page) and they are inaccessible now. Also, we are trying a different method now, so it won't affect the spam that much. Volatile Dweevil

Yeah. --Steve (talk)   23:42, 14 March 2011 (EDT)

Mario Party 9

Why did you make this redirect? It seems useless because Nintendo didn't make any sequels in a while (since 2009, or 2007 for numberstream). They've released 3DS and they will more likely make a sequel for 3DS rather than Wii (and it will maybe then named Mario Party 3DS, rather than Mario Party 9). SWFlash

I guess I made it so if one searches MP9 they see the list of games to confirm there is no MP9 rather than getting the search results for MP9 which is really just a mess. --Steve (talk)   16:39, 16 March 2011 (EDT)

Contribution Scores

Hi Steve; sorry to bug you with this. I recently just discovered the contribution scores page (yeah, it took me a while) and I realized that it's hard to find out what "position" you're in. If you're right in the middle of the table in, say, 25th, you have to count either down from 50 or up from 1 on the boxes to find out what specific "position" you're in. Is it at all possible that we could add numbers to the side to tell us that? Idk if that's possible or not; no biggie if it isn't. Thanks Steve!   Bowser's luma

Get a rough idea of your spot; it's not a crazy contest! --Steve (talk)   16:39, 16 March 2011 (EDT)
Sorry. I'll be back with a good description in a minute.   Bowser's luma
Here we go:

File:contributionscores.png|500px

I was trying to say that it's hard to determine what number you are out of the top 50 and this would be a good idea to add. Of course, less crude and aligned with the table correctly, unlike mine.   Bowser's luma

It's just to give you an idea of where you stand; we're not so competitive that we need to be comparing ranks. --Steve (talk)   17:16, 17 March 2011 (EDT)
I see. I had a feeling I was being to competitive. Sorry to bother you with this and I'll set the screenshot for deletion.   Bowser's luma

MarioWiki:Image Use Policy

I want to fully rewrite that policy, can you unprotect it or do I have to show my sandbox page first? SWFlash

Thanks! SWFlash

Question

Can you allow autoconfirmed users to edit others' userpages? I am asking because there are some images needed to be replaced and red links needed to be fixed. Thanks sir.  Kaptain K. Rool

It's a shame you're not a sysop or you could fix them. --Steve (talk)   10:15, 18 March 2011 (EDT)
I know, but why only sysops? Users can fix red links too. BTW I did NOT sneak in to try to gain sysop powers. I was wondering if autoconfirmed users can do it as well.  Kaptain K. Rool
You would need to do a proposal on this. --Steve (talk)   10:21, 18 March 2011 (EDT)
OK then. I am on it. BTW do you play Banjo-Kazooie games?  Kaptain K. Rool
I played the first two when they came out. --Steve (talk)   10:46, 18 March 2011 (EDT)

How do I create a wiki like how you created MarioWiki? I want to create Mariofanonwiki.com so I wonder how to create it. Do you know how to? Thanks...  Kaptain K. Rool

Anyways, play Donkey Kong games? (I might've asked this one)  Kaptain K. Rool
Yes... I have met the Donkey Kong. --Steve (talk)   13:26, 22 March 2011 (EDT)
Like the Mario series, do you only have the major releases of the Donkey Kong series? I have almost all major ones, except Donkey Kong 64.  Kaptain K. Rool

I have the SNES games and DK64. --Steve (talk)   13:36, 22 March 2011 (EDT)

How about Banjo-Kazooie series? I got Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge and Banjo-Pilot.  Kaptain K. Rool
I... already... told you... --Steve (talk)   07:19, 23 March 2011 (EDT)
I mean do you have Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie or was that just a trial/demo?  Kaptain K. Rool
I certainly own them. --Steve (talk)   07:23, 23 March 2011 (EDT)
I am jealous. I don't have an N64. Why do you only have the major Mario releases? Why don't you get spinoffs like Mario Kart 64 (don't have) or Super Mario Kart (don't haver either)?  Kaptain K. Rool

I actually have all the Mario Kart games. --Steve (talk)   07:37, 23 March 2011 (EDT)

All of them? I though only platformers were major games. Have Conker's Bad Fur Day? I don't and I can't because my mom won't allow it.  Kaptain K. Rool
I didn't say I only owned the major games. I don't have Conker. --Steve (talk)   12:47, 23 March 2011 (EDT)

Unblocking users

I think you should unblock KoopaYoshi. I didn't think he impersonated to be mean. I think he was playing around on his friend's talk page. Check it out sir. Also I think the admins were a little hard on Mileycyrussoulja and TheUltimateKoopa so can you unblock them sir? Thanks...  Kaptain K. Rool

Hello

Erm... does Edofenrir really mean that I am bossing around people? I don't see that anywhere. I remember telling Cobold for doing his job wrong when protecting the Mario article, but I will stop. Do you really think that is bossy? I don't really seem to know if it is or not.  Kaptain K. Rool

Before you answer, please take a look at this. The procedure was discussed beforehand and executed under agreement of seven individual admins (in forum and chat). -   Gabumon(talk) 11:04, 25 March 2011 (EDT)
The link is broken T_T.  Kaptain K. Rool
The link isn't broken, it is restricted. -   Gabumon(talk) 11:35, 25 March 2011 (EDT)
Why?  Kaptain K. Rool
It is a link to the admin discussion board on our forums. I left that link there for Porplemontage, so he can see that there has been a consensus about your warning. The place where that discussion happened is restricted to people with admin rights though, which is why the link appears broken to you. -   Gabumon(talk) 12:34, 25 March 2011 (EDT)
Um... why was there a consenus about my warning there?  Kaptain K. Rool
Stooben got it right on your talk page. I know you're just trying to help, but you need to focus less on talking to sysops and more on the encyclopedia. --Steve (talk)   13:10, 25 March 2011 (EDT)
That is pretty much what I am doing. Focusing more on the encyclopedia and forgetting about this sysop thing, etc.  Kaptain K. Rool

Main page MW:About link?

Hi, I was wondering if I could add a link to MarioWiki:About on the main page, in the "Welcome to the Mario Wiki" section after the "Help" link? Here's a mock-up. It was suggested on my proposal about removing spoiler templates by Bop1996 as a compromise for the folks who think that putting the replacement spoiler disclaimer on MW:About (as I proposed) is too out-of-the-way, and would rather have a warning directly on the main page. Regardless of the proposal, I think having a link to MW:About would be a good idea, but I wanted to check with you first. - Walkazo 22:01, 25 March 2011 (EDT)

I definitely don't want a spoiler warning on the main page. The About page really needs an entire rewrite. --Steve (talk)   02:34, 26 March 2011 (EDT)
Thanks! I'm worried that people will still want another proposal to move the warning to the main page, but if you're dead-set agaisnt it, hopefully they'll reconsider and settle for the MW:About compromise. - Walkazo 14:33, 26 March 2011 (EDT)
It should go without saying that the wiki contains spoilers. We're an encyclopedia. Wikipedia has this, and we'll have the warning on the About page. You'll note that Wikipedia doesn't have a warning on its main page. --Steve (talk)   14:39, 26 March 2011 (EDT)
My thoughts exactly (I even linked to that same Wikipedia page in one of my comments in my proposal). - Walkazo 15:02, 26 March 2011 (EDT)

Shutting down editing to DK Wiki?

I got told that one of the best ways to contact you is via talk page here or via forum. Another person is using the forum, so I'll have to request via talk. Fix the last warning template.

When I put in this...

It becomes this.

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize the Super Mario Wiki or break the rules in any way, you will be blocked from editing this site.

Folding Box

Hey Steve, I've found and interesting feature from Bulbapedia and it's the feature to expand a box by passing the cursor over it. I should give the credit to the guy who made it, although I need a comment of yours if it's nice or not to implement in this wiki. I had to make within the MediaWiki:Common.css page because it's the only zone it works. ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

You could have added it to Monobook.css but where do you want to use it? --Steve (talk)   18:40, 2 April 2011 (EDT)

It could be used specially in the archives templates, like that of the proposals' archives. It may also serve to change the NIWA template of the main page and its extensive list of wikis. What do you think? ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

It seems ok.. --Steve (talk)   18:55, 2 April 2011 (EDT)

Excellent. I'll try to take the code to the Monobook.css to see if it can work there. ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

Wiki question

I have a question, if you wouldn't mind answering it...I was just wondering why wikis like this one or Wikipedia look so much different style-wise than like say The Banjo-Kazooie Wiki, or The Emperor's New Wiki, which seem to look distinctly different...

  PHOENIX (talkedits) 01:44, 3 April 2011 (EDT)

Well, a wiki can be customized to look like anything. Not all blogs look the same, not all wikis look the same, etc. We use Monobook, Wikipedia uses Vector--both of these skins are part of the default MediaWiki package. Wikia uses its own custom skin to give their wikis that distinct look. --Steve (talk)   01:51, 3 April 2011 (EDT)
Okay, that makes sense... :)

Could we get the latest version, please? I think some of its new features would be useful. - 2257(Talk) 11:11, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

What are the new features? --Steve (talk)   15:39, 16 April 2011 (EDT)
The ones I'm interested in are summarized under the "Grouped references" and "Separating references from text" headers. The former allows creation of multiple separated reference lists, which we could use to create footnotes (for example, on Badge). The latter allows the current kind of syntax, which looks like this:
Mario is a character first appearing as the protagonist of the arcade game Donkey Kong released in 1981. Since Mario Bros., Mario has made numerous appearances as a main character in his own series of games, the Mario series, and has become the mascot of Nintendo.
references
<references />
to be replaced with this:
Mario is a character first appearing as the protagonist of the arcade game Donkey Kong released in 1981. Since Mario Bros., Mario has made numerous appearances as a main character in his own series of games, the Mario series, and has become the mascot of Nintendo.
references
<references>

<references />
I think that having the second style as an option would be useful. Often, I've noticed that newer users who don't understand precisely how references work will delete the main tag that contains the actual reference data, because they believe it or the fact it's attached to not to be relevant anymore. However, they leave one or more dependent tags on the page, which creates an ugly looking error message. I think the newer syntax will reduce the incidence of this.
"Merging two texts into a single reference (wikisource issue)" is also a new feature, but it doesn't seem to me that it will be especially useful. - 2257(Talk) 22:08, 16 April 2011 (EDT)
I tried upgrading to both the trunk version and the 1.16 snapshot, but neither worked. The references lists were broken and pages couldn't be saved. --Steve (talk)   23:54, 16 April 2011 (EDT)
Did you try version Cite-MW1.16-r62678? According to this more recent versions don't work correctly. - 2257(Talk) 10:56, 17 April 2011 (EDT)
Yeah, that's the 1.16 snapshot version. --Steve (talk)   11:32, 17 April 2011 (EDT)
Well that's disheartening. - 2257(Talk) 13:16, 17 April 2011 (EDT)

Coffee Sometime?

Hey Steve, why dont me and you get together one of these days and talk about that new "project" over a nice cup of "cafe" if you catch my drift --Baby Simones 17:31, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

Let's meet up this week. --Steve (talk)   15:39, 16 April 2011 (EDT)
Alright man, sounds like a plan!--Baby Simones 16:47, 16 April 2011 (EDT)

I have to stop posting stupid questions

But once I've uploaded a video (Ogg Theora) to MarioWiki and it said "sh: /usr/bin/ffmpeg: No such file or directory". It looks like you're lacking some ffmpeg… The video can be watched there (and it should be noted that I can't split them to either gif or audio, it's impossible). SWFlash

Here're other uneditabe images (don't delete those ones): File:4-1 NSMB.jpg, File:Downtown1.jpg, File:TempleofHeaven MIM.png, File:TrampolineCN.jpg. SWFlash

Also I've uploaded File:Copyright.svg, but I can't replace the image with this on this page and this page (both protected). SWFlash

Fine, but why is it so imperative that the image be swapped? Sure, PNG to SVG--which is just going to render the same PNG anyway. --Steve (talk)   19:58, 18 April 2011 (EDT)
PNG is scaled with Bilinear rescaling, while SVG is just redraws to fit the square. SVG wins there. SWFlash
I know the difference. --Steve (talk)   22:43, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

OK, I've uploaded slightly different images from Nuvola Apps. One, two, and three for this, this, and this, correspondingly. SWFlash

You haven't updated the last two I unprotected. Do you know why these SVG files work on here while others have those rasterization glitches? --Steve (talk)   08:12, 20 April 2011 (EDT)
I think it's because of lowercase 'm' in d value of <path> tag. SWFlash

Help.

This guy gave me a warning for editing on archives. However, I was just reverting somebody's edits after they edited on the same archive. Does that deserve a warning? You reverted an edit on an archive, so did I really break a rule?

FEW

Hey Porple! The Fire Emblem Wiki, link, officially joined NIWA today. So could you add them to the main page box? If you don't want to, I could always ask another 'sop.  Marioguy1 (Talk | Contribs)

File:FESword.png (File:FESword.png) is the image that NIWA uses for it.  Marioguy1 (Talk | Contribs)
Excellent, thanks. --Steve (talk)   20:38, 20 April 2011 (EDT)

Can you check the forum topic "Block appeals" and let us know what you think of it?--Knife (talk) 19:19, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

Sure. --Steve (talk)   20:30, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

Can you?

Can you mark this as a stub? I'm only autocomfirmed.   Superfiremario  19:41, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

No; it's not an article and stub would be inappropriate. --Steve (talk)   20:30, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

Late response

(I'm continuing from here)

Our max image area is already more than double the MediaWiki default value.

Wikipedia has 10x larger file size limits and a whole lot of new file types. Comparee to Special:Upload and this image:

eMQo6.png

One hundred megabytes. It's enough to upload 720p videos with 60 FPS. I can't upload even 360p videos with 25 FPS. Not enough. SWFlash

File size is not the same as image area. --Steve (talk)   16:48, 24 April 2011 (EDT)

Chat

Could you change the chat applet so that it uses #mwchat as the default channel, instead of #mwikitalk? Most users who come on chat seem to be looking for #mwchat anyway. - 2257(Talk) 18:07, 24 April 2011 (EDT)

Sprites

Hi I have been adding sprites to your sprites category but I was wondering can I create other sprite categorys for games? Since you made the sprites category I wanted to check with you first.--File:Yoshi4.jpegYoshidude99 07:54, 7 May 2011 (EDT)

I just wanted to differentiate between screenshots and sprites for the licensing stuff. Game image categories would be used for sprites as well, so no new categories are needed for that. --Steve (talk)   07:57, 7 May 2011 (EDT)

I'm a bit shocked, but what exactly was the site about back then? Why was it changed to "6 wikis I've made" list? SWFlash

It was service/community for Flash cartoons and webcomics, but it eventually disbanded. --Steve (talk)   20:21, 8 May 2011 (EDT)

Also

Unprotect this page, I want to fix the rounded corners and shrink the width to 80% as well as deleting the unnecessary code. SWFlash

Button

Can we add a button to the editing screen for references? It would make it a lot more accessible for those who have no idea what the coding is. Possibly one for in article citation and one for at the end of the article.--Knife (talk) 22:53, 9 May 2011 (EDT)

We could do this with JS. I'll look into it when I have time or someone else can in the meantime. --Steve (talk)   15:43, 10 May 2011 (EDT)

Remove acwiki from Interwiki Table

Hey Porplemontage, it's Jake from Nookipedia. I've changed all pages that use the 'acwiki' interwiki link to reflect the new name 'nookipedia'. I just wanted to let you know that it's safe to drop the 'acwiki' row from the table if you'd like to. :) --staple720 14:07, 14 May 2011 (EDT)

Main Page

Hello Porplemontage

Plumber690 here. For some reason it won't let me edit the main page. How come you get to edit it? Explain why I cannot edit the main page. Some stuff could be said at E3 which will be very soon. --Plumber690 13:13, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe because he's the creator and owner of the Wiki? Anyways, me being a jerk aside. The page is protected, so only Administrators can edit it. However, certain parts of the page can be edited here. But be careful, and read the rules before you do/write anything. And make sure your spell and grammar is correct.  XzelionETC

Why

Why are they still ads when you are logged in.--New Super Yoshi 12:00, 5 June 2011 (EDT)

They go away after you hit a certain number of edits (I'm not revealing the number, but it's not too high). This is to prevent people from just logging in and doing nothing. --Steve (talk)   13:53, 5 June 2011 (EDT)
I want to know how many.

New Layout

Now, I'm not trying to bash you, or the wiki, I love it. But I think it needs to be easier to navigate, not exactly getting to characters and items and different pages and stuff, I'm talking about making it easier for users to try and find out who are sysops or patroller are, in case they need to contact them immediately. I also think we should clean up the front page, maybe have less stuff on it or something, and also think about it from a new-comers point of view, the easiest way to navigate through this website. I don't know if i should put this in proposals or not, and I'm not trying to be mean to you or the wiki, im trying to make it easier for everyone who comes here, users or new-comers.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blue Koop Star (talk).

That's fine, but you need to make specific suggestions such as "I think MarioWiki:Administrators should be linked to from page X" or "Here is my proposed redesign for the main page." --Steve (talk)   22:08, 24 June 2011 (EDT)
