Mario movie 2

It got its name: “The Super Mario Bros Movie 2” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Super_Mario_Bros._Movie_2_logo.jpg

Take it with a grain of salt: it's a fanmade logo. I do not know the exact source of it, but people used it in fanmade trailers from last year back in April; the first movie wasn't even a month old at that point, and a sequel was far from being confirmed either. Now, I have heard that IMAX did show off this logo recently (I suppose during SDCC), but since it's identical to a fanmade logo that's been floating around the internet for at least a year and three months, I'm 100% certain they just plucked a good-looking logo off the internet without knowing if it's actually legit or not. It's not a fanmade logo. https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/super-mario-bros-movie-sequel-title-logo-report/ It lists all the official logos, including The Super Mario Bros Movie 2

Did you read my message thoroughly, or did you stop at the first sentence?
Again, it was already used in fanmade trailers from last year back in April, which was WAAAAAY before this movie was announced on Mario Day this year, meaning this logo has to be fanmade and mistakenly used by IMAX. There's NO WAY the official logo for a sequel movie would be unveiled nearly a year in advance of the film's proper announcement and when the first movie is still in theaters. So, again: take that logo with a grain of salt. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 11:34, July 28, 2024 (EDT)
If it was used in a semi-official format, though, surely it's worth mentioning?
"In an SDCC presentation regarding upcoming films, IMAX referred to the movie as The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, utilizing a logo that has been circulating the internet since well before the film's announcement."
seems perfectly encyclopedic to me. 73.171.104.211 12:13, July 28, 2024 (EDT)
That could work.
I do wish we knew the original source of the fanmade logo though, so we could accurately verify that it's fanmade. But I can't really find a perfectly good source that predates the fanmade trailer I found (which already looks like it has poorly removed the background, meaning it has to predate that fan trailer), and any sources that use this image prior to SDCC are also posted after the fanmade trailer (e.g. the logo on Wikipedia is from June 4 of this year, one on DeviantArt I found was from October 2023, etc). Take a closer look from the logo for the first movie. And the other logo above. Can you tell the difference? Can't list link as anti-abuse feature (don't know why it exists) (talk user:Austin819) 13:08, July 28, 2024 (EDT)

It'd be nice if the logo was real and all but the Wikipedia link you sent clearly states that it isn't an official logo if you scroll down a bit to where it says Other information. - KinokoBlast Icon of an item from Paper Mario (talk) 13:15, July 28, 2024 (EDT)
Why is the first movie's logo relevant in this conversation? What I'm saying is that this logo you keep showcasing is the exact same logo as the one that's used in this fanmade trailer from over a year ago (it's even in said fanmade trailer's thumbnail), and that IMAX used this fan logo by mistake. I've said that three times now; how is that difficult to understand?!
Heck, if you look at the file history of this logo on Wikipedia, you'll notice that this was uploaded on June 4, 2024, which also predates the apparent """reveal""" by IMAX on July 25, 2024. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 13:36, July 28, 2024 (EDT)

It seemed that in sources of Cinemacon, the film for this is mentioned as "The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2". It's not much but it's more like a working title name for it. Bmaster2020 (talk) 19:03, April 11, 2025 (EDT)

Sci-fi theme?

So, somebody on Twitter found that one of the film's distribution sites lists that one of the genres this film will have is "science fiction". It's been added. Shy Guy costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 08:25, April 27, 2025 (EDT)

Is it a good idea to add a production section?

Like there's been many interviews about the cast talking about a sequel, including wanting to reprise their roles from the original, which says a lot.

It's a bit premature. I would say these kinds of sections are typically best documented after the release of the movie, due to NDA (nondisclosure agreements) and all. Sprite of Mario's icon in Mario Party DS It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:42, May 16, 2025 (EDT)

Moving to "Super Mario World" might be premature

I'm not entirely convinced yet that "Super Mario World" is the official title. Note that in that press release, the new Shrek and Minions films are referred to by their franchise names rather than actual titles, so it's very possible that this is just a placeholder title and isn't final. I would support holding off on a page move until we have a definitive title and/or logo. ReeseRivers SigIcon.png Reese Rivers (talk | contribs) 22:26, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

seconded. i don't vibe with moving a temporary title to another temporary title. — Super Leaf stamp from Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.eviemaybe (talk / contributions) 22:34, May 13, 2025 (EDT)
I also agree with you two. I could move it back if you like. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 22:45, May 13, 2025 (EDT)
It's also listed with movies whose titles have been confirmed, so we don't know if it isn't temporary either. Even if it might be, we have used tentative titles before ("Super Mario" for Super Mario 3D Land, "Paper Mario" for Paper Mario: Sticker Star) and I think this is a better temporary article title than "Untitled The Super Mario Bros. Movie follow-up" and a case of "might as well use what we have", considering the source it came from (an official press release). It also seems deliberately far off from the name "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" for it to have been a mistake. Shy Guy costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:45, May 13, 2025 (EDT)
Have movie titles ever been prematurely confirmed in that similar manner before? Sprite of Mario's icon in Mario Party DS It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:46, May 13, 2025 (EDT)
Not that I'm aware of. Shy Guy costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:59, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

Maybe we can add a footnote saying something along the lines of, "While this name has not officially been confirmed by Nintendo itself, it was used in a press release from NBC Universal." Shy Guy costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:59, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

I'd prefer moving the page back and adding a note along those lines specifically about the "Super Mario World" name, without assuming that's the current working title. ReeseRivers SigIcon.png Reese Rivers (talk | contribs) 23:07, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

The press release has been updated to remove the mention of Super Mario World, along with "Shrek" and "Minions". Don't know what effect this has on the naming situation, but it seems pertinent. --PopitTart (talk) 23:28, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

I'd say move the page back now. It would be good to write a note mentioning the Super Mario World name and its removal from the press release. ReeseRivers SigIcon.png Reese Rivers (talk | contribs) 23:30, May 13, 2025 (EDT)
Oh, welp, likely a mistake or a premature name drop, then. I'll move it back. Shy Guy costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:39, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

Possible Movie Poster I found

I found what looks like a poster for this film (link here). Since the title was seemingly revealed in the press release article from NBCUniversal, this poster began to appear around the Internet, even after the title was removed from the article. Does anyone know if this poster is actually official? If it is not official, then it should not be added to the main article until further notice. CBFan5 (talk) 11:53, May 17, 2025 (EDT)

It's all convincing but the crack and the egg's texture, way different from the post-credit scene. If it's not fake, it might be a preliminary test, still... as of now, it's 80% fake. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 12:33, May 17, 2025 (EDT)
I think it's fanmade, I found the full image and in the bottom right it says "@nintengamersng" and nintengamersng is an account on Instagram and Threads and they posted the image there. --Martendo (talk) 04:20, May 21, 2025 (EDT)
