Stiletto Goomba[edit]

I'd definitely hold off until Super Mario Maker 2 comes out, to see its Japanese name, to see if it deserves a split or not. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 09:16, May 31, 2019 (EDT)

I'd rather see the big and winged varieties of the Goomba's Shoe get split out instead of that. After all, the stiletto is just an aesthetic change. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 09:54, May 31, 2019 (EDT)
Nope, the stiletto has a stronger stomp ability when given a mushroom, and its internal filename is https://pastebin.com/6M4gKbmt QueenKutsuKuribo. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 12:11, July 5, 2019 (EDT)
I'd support a split. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 05:18, July 18, 2019 (EDT)
A proposal decided them to be merged. However, until we have more proof that they're separate (besides the fact that it has a stronger stomp ability), they can be split. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 05:20, July 18, 2019 (EDT)
The alternate form of the Goomba's Shoe object is apparently really called the "Stiletto", but I don't know the name of the enemy itself as I haven't checked out the game yet. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:13, July 18, 2019 (EDT)
Found it: Stiletto Goomba. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:13, July 23, 2019 (EDT)
I've tried it, Stiletto Goombas crush more than the normal Shoe Goombas. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 15:08, August 5, 2019 (EDT)
I would vote for the split, as said above, the Stiletto Goomba is different than the Shoe Goomba and can crush blocks Daisy6 (talk) 23:20, May 9, 2021 (EDT)
Someone should add an internal names table now that it is possible.--Platform (talk) 15:07, June 14, 2022 (EDT)
I checked Origami King, and this game calls it "KuriboBoots" (Boots Goomba), according to the name and contents of romfs/script/wld/btl/enemy/etc/btl_enemy_KuriboBoots.bin.zst. Super Mario Maker 2, in romfs/Message/ReferenceMsg_USen.szs/PartsIconName.msbt, uses KutsuKuribo_00 for Shoe Goomba and KutsuKuribo_01 for Stiletto Goomba. Ice Skate Goomba[edit]

I think we should add an Ice Skate Goomba page, and list it as a derived species of this MarioLover54 9:02 AM 7/31/2019

Split Shoe and Stiletto variants[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Split all 1-0-9-0
Per the discussion above. The Stiletto shoe is also stronger functionally when enlarged.

Only split the shoes[edit]

  1. TheUndescribableGhost (talk) Tough choice, but the Goombas act identically while the shoes are completely different.

Only split Goombas[edit]

Split all[edit]

  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) Per proposal.
  2. LinkTheLefty (talk) Honestly, I was pretty sure it was already decided at some point earlier on that Super Mario Maker-exclusive derivatives aren't to split from their host subjects - unless they had their own unique names, which the stiletto variants do. They seem about as different as stuff like the Fire Koopa Clown Car. The one thing I would add: Goomba's Shoe should really be "Shoe" now, according to the Super Mario Maker games at least.
  3. Hewer (talk) This is a variant with a different name, appearance and so on, why haven't we split this yet?
  4. Pseudo (talk) Per LinkTheLefty.
  5. MegaBowser64 (talk) Per.
  6. TheFlameChomp (talk) This is similar to Fire Koopa Clown Car in that it has a unique name and behavior, so I think it makes sense to split.
  7. Mushroom Head (talk) Per all.
  8. PaperSplash (talk) Per TheFlameChomp.
  9. ThePowerPlayer (talk) Per all.

Don't split anything[edit]

#MegaBowser64 (talk) Stiletto Goomba already redirects here. I don't think we need to take any further action.

Comments[edit]

I'm just sayin', the only other time I've heard stiletto was in "Party in the USA" and even then I thought it was a racial slur, so if I wanted to know about a Stiletto Goomba I would probably just search "Shoe Goomba". --BOWSER... (talk) 22:51, July 22, 2023 (EDT)

Er. Ok. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 03:57, July 23, 2023 (EDT)
Now that's a piece of information i didn't know up until now, and i don't really know if i needed it... --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 04:20, July 23, 2023 (EDT)
And you'd be in luck since there'd be a link to the Stiletto Goomba page on the Shoe Goomba page. But regardless, you aren't the only user on this wiki that we have to accommodate for, so specifically what you'd search for (especially given the circumstances are, uh, not widely applicable) isn't a very good argument. Great minds think alike, listen to the same music, and guess what words mean in the same way, but ok I'm satisfied with a link. --BOWSER... (talk) 09:56, July 23, 2023 (EDT)
I don't think "assumes words they don't know are automatically slurs" would count there. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:08, July 23, 2023 (EDT)
You can never be too careful, or the cancel culture will getcha. But to get back on topic, I'll switch over my vote. --BOWSER... (talk) 12:05, July 23, 2023 (EDT)

Honestly, I have no idea where this "stiletto = racial slur" is coming from. I've heard of the word "stiletto" ages ago, and I had always associated the word with a high-heeled woman's shoe; the word is also commonly associated with knives and daggers and even switchblades (things I didn't even know until today!), but those aren't racial slurs either. Wikipedia's disambiguation page on "stiletto" doesn't really refer to any racial slurs either from what I can gather, and not even the crowdsourced (and rather crass) UrbanDictionary has linked "stiletto" to any racial slur at all. MegaBowser, this just sounds like you only assumed "stiletto" has to be a slur purely because it's a word you haven't heard before and didn't do any further research to it, even when it's pretty darn obvious they're talking about shoes (...or knives). Like, which races do you think get offended at this word?
Also, for the record, if "stiletto" was a racial slur after all, you'd think the cancel culture would've gotten Nintendo already back in 2015, when the original Super Mario Maker released. For goodness' sake, the Internet got mad at a Paper Mario: Color Splash demo because they thought it referenced GamerGate (instead of Watergate), and they also got mad at the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate demos in 2018 when Mr. Game & Watch's Side Smash still included the Native American feather of the Fire Attack sprite. They'll be able to spot anything that offends them in an instant, so the fact that no one criticized the use of the word "stiletto" in eight years should be proof that it isn't anything offensive. MegaBowser already acquiesced to the counterarguments and switched his vote. Best to leave it at that. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 18:19, July 23, 2023 (EDT)
