I've never liked this article's opening sentence. "Moonsnakes are primitive Streptococcus-like enemies that appear in Super Mario Odyssey." There are two things I dislike. One is that the average reader doesn't know what a Streptococcus is, so it has to be a link to Wikipedia. The second is that Streptococcus are bacteria, and Moonsnakes are a bunch of rocks. They really aren't much alike other than their shape, which the sentence doesn't specify. I would rather have the article's opening sentences read "Moonsnakes are enemies consisting of a series of adjacent rolling rocks that appear in Super Mario Odyssey. They constantly revolve around a central non-rolling rock." Salmancer (talk) 02:16, October 2, 2026 (UTC)

Your version of the rewritten opening sentence definitely sounds better and less awkward. May I change it, or would you like to change it first? Mari0fan100 (talk) 03:43, October 2, 2026 (UTC)
I'd prefer to do it myself. But hey, there's opposition, so not so fast. Salmancer (talk) 17:00, October 2, 2026 (UTC)
I think the current opening sentence is fine as is. The comparison to Streptococcus is apt, as the in-universe Moon Kingdom brochure and The Art of Super Mario Odyssey both hint towards Moonsnakes being an early form of life much like bacteria. B700465189a9 (talk) 05:19, October 2, 2026 (UTC)
I would also like to point out that Streptococcus can exist as pairs or chains. Moonsnakes don't exist in pairs by definition of their design. A valid Moonsnake would have to consist of at least three rocks, and I don't think Odyssey even has Moonsnakes that small. So by the letter of the comparison, the comparison is inaccurate. Salmancer (talk) 17:00, October 2, 2026 (UTC)
Moonsnake is pretty generous. I'd say move the streptococcus comparison to a notes section and use something like "Moonsnakes are enemies in Super Mario Odyssey. They are ancient, rock-like, segmented creatures that resemble snakes..." Sorbetti Mr. Sorbetti (talk) 17:06, October 2, 2026 (UTC)
They don't really resemble snakes at all though. The only thing the two entities have in common is that they're long-bodied, but a Moonsnake's movement is entirely different compared to an actual snake, with the darker rocks circling around the axis of the lighter, central rock as said central rock actually moves around horizontally or vertically. The fact that the central, lighter rock is the "head"/"abdomen" of the entire thing also makes the comparison to Streptococcus actually a bit more accurate than Salmancer claims (I think, at least), given that it means it's always accompanied by a pair of rock chains.
