Proposal: Merging Limited Lift (Remote-Control) with Limited Lift[edit]

Brown Block This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

canceled by proposer
I would like to merge this article with the Limited Lift article. It only appears in one game, and it really only has a different control scheme. That's it. It feels like this article is too similar to the Limited Lift article to have its own.

Support: Merge It[edit]

#Paradox (talk) Per Proposal

Oppose: Don't Merge It[edit]

  1. Xiahou Ba, The Nasty Warrior (talk) Has a different appearance, different behavior, and the control scheme difference is enough to keep them split.
  2. PopitTart (talk) Per Xiahou Ba, this functions entirely differently from the Limited Lift. It is a metal elevator platform that moves up on its own and can be adjusted left or right by tilting the controller. Additionally, it does in fact appear in two separate games, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U. In NSMBW, the platform does not even have any kind of Limited Lift-like mechanics; that name and functionality were only introduced in NSMBU.
  3. Wilben (talk) Per all.
  4. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Xiahou Ba. These two only really have "being a lift" and "having a weight system" in common.
  5. Unlimited dabs (Remote-Control) Per all.
  6. Arend (talk) Per all; these two lifts, beyond having a limitation system, are not even remotely the same thing.
  7. TheCatLover738 (talk) Per all.
  8. EvieMaybe (talk) i frankly do not understand how or why anyone would want to merge these
  9. Yoshi18 (talk) Per all.
  10. Paradox (talk) Per all. After some consideration, I realized that me making this proposal was kind of stupid. I didn't think through how you would be able to merge it, or how different the articles are. Although, I would like to go through with Arend's idea with changing the article's name. I'm not sure if you're allowed to change your position in a proposal, so if someone could tell me, that'd be great.

Comments[edit]

@Xiahou Ba, The Nasty Warrior Interesting, but if I may ask you this, how is the behavior different? 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 01:57, April 26, 2026 (UTC)

Remote Control Limited Lift moves vertically, Limited Lift moves horizontally. It doesn't sound like much, but in a 2D platformer, it's fundamentally very different (the vertical one is more bound by gravity and is more affected by weight of enemies and it can slowly descend with no players on it, the horizontal one feels like it's on a conveyor belt. The fact that you can control the Remote Control one with motion controls and is dependent on which player controls while the other moves by itself is also quite a significant difference. Ah, that makes sense. But still, they're kind of similar, even if it's a 2D game 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 02:22, April 26, 2026 (UTC)
I do see the similarities between the two, but it's not enough for a merge. They are already listed as "comparable" in the infoboxes. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 02:26, April 26, 2026 (UTC)
Fair point. I put that in there because I was still considering to put a proposal. 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 02:29, April 26, 2026 (UTC)

@PopitTart I meant the New Super Mario Bros. U version by "one game", but I think you already figured. When I originally wrote this article, I didn't include the one in New Super Mario Bros. Wii because it wasn't "limited". But if it's completely necessary to keep its New Super Mario Bros. Wii counterpart, then we shouldn't split it. 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 02:29, April 26, 2026 (UTC)

Ok, I realized that if this proposal was supported, I don't even know how it's going to be merged. I might be reconsidering... 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 16:15, April 26, 2026 (UTC)

Personally, I think it's best if the article got a bit of a rewrite and a rename, perhaps even a split. Currently, the first paragraph of the article describes it as a type of Limited Lift, but it actually has the limited body system only in Mario U and Luigi U. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii (which the PRIMA guide for it calls it a "girder"), the object just continues being pulled upwards regardless of the amount of characters and enemies it carries. It would be much more accurate to instead refer to it as a Tilt Lift. As for the name, I suppose "Remote-Controlled Elevator" works best (despite it coming from the English Super Mario Bros Encyclopedia, or otherwise "Girder (lift)" (from the Prima NSMBWii guide), "Lift (remote-controlled elevator)" (given the descriptions for Elevator Out of Service and Express Elevator), or even "Elevator (remote-controlled)" (given the titles for Elevator Out of Service and Express Elevator). I suppose "Remote-Controlled Lift (elevator)" from the NSMBU section of the Encyclopedia could also work. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 00:26, April 27, 2026 (UTC)
@Arend Okay, I agree with the rename, but I'm not so sure about the split. If they were split, the only differences would be that one can only have a limited amount of entities on it, and the other functions the exact same without it, which I would say is too similar. If you're thinking of a rewrite, how will it look? 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 00:57, April 27, 2026 (UTC)
Well, I did a little bit of rewriting myself in the meantime. So it would look a bit more like that, though with most instances of Limited Lift being replaced with whatever name we move it to. I also think it's wise to have "also referred to as Limited Lift" being moved from the first paragraph to the NSMBU paragraph, personally speaking. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 01:03, April 27, 2026 (UTC)
I like it! And I also think that we should move "also referred to as Limited". 🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 01:11, April 27, 2026 (UTC)

@Paradox Yes, you may change your position in a proposal, although you must strike out your vote using <s></s>. The vote is then placed at the bottom—which in your case is unnecessary. Since it has been less than 4 days since you started this proposal, you may cancel this, as you disagree with it yourself. As an extra note, the 4-day period applies to modifying proposals as well. --TheCatLover738 (talk) 21:24, April 27, 2026 (UTC)

@TheCatLover738 Thanks for telling me, but I have a question, do I just delete the whole proposal or do I just use a template?🌀Paradox🌀 (talk) 01:17, April 28, 2026 (UTC)
I see you have officially canceled this proposal. Just remember to add it to MarioWiki:Proposals/TPP archive. --TheCatLover738 (talk) 01:38, April 28, 2026 (UTC)
