Change this image into a USA/Canada dual flag[edit]

don't change 1-11
Most of the time, the game/system release dates for Canada and the USA are represented only by the American flag. I'd say we should replace this image with this Canada/USA dual flag to show that the release date applies to Canada, too. As for pages where the two countries have different release dates for something (Ex: New Super Mario Bros.) or when a game wasn't released in either Canada or USA (Ex: Photos with Mario), we can re-upload the regular US flag on its own and fix the exceptions. We use an EU flag to represent Europe, I'd say this would be a similar situation.

Support[edit]

  1. CenturyOfLuigi (talk) See above.

Edit: I'm certain that my two examples are the only instances of there being a difference between the USA and Canada in terms of game release dates or game content (Look at the current Canada flag file page, the only two non-wiki-meta pages the flag is used on to show different release dates are the examples I provided above). The versions of games that are shipped to the two countries (NTSC) are always identical, aside from language options sometimes.

These exceptions would be a very easy fix, and even if there's one or two that slip through the cracks (Which I doubt, considering how Nintendo likes to have all of its main regions have their same release dates for games), I'm sure they'd be solved quickly. I'd also say that having these few little exceptions that slip through would be okay, considering that a dual flag's benefit of letting the user know that "Hey, this game came out in Canada, too!" could be good to avoid confusion. Canada is also a somewhat big market for Nintendo, being apart of North America, so I don't think it should be left out.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Alex95 (talk) - "Most of the time" doesn't mean "All of the time". I see no need to upload a separate flag again for the exceptions you listed and more.
  2. YoshiEgg1990 (talk) Per Alex.
  3. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Unless there's an official North American flag, I see no reason to do this. Per Alex95.
  4. Yoshi the SSM (talk) Per Alex95.
  5. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per Alex95.
  6. Waluigi Time (talk) Per all.
  7. DyeffersonAz (talk) I think it isn't necessary, because if the dates are in the most of cases equal, the person that lives in that country will be accostumated with it. Like in Brazil, for example, myself's country, Always it is the same as USA, and I am accostumated with it. With Alex95.
  8. George Jones (talk) I think that having the two together would be confusing.
  9. BBQ Turtle (talk) Per all, plus the European Union flag is used for Europe in general, despite it not being Europe's official flag, so the use of the USA flag is virtually the same in this case.
  10. rollerC (talk) Per Toadette the Achiever, unless there's an official flag or something to represent the entire continent (like the EU flag), I'm not willing to support this.
  11. bwburke94 (talk) There's no reason to do it this way.

Comments[edit]

The "Most of the time" in my original argument can be ignored, I'm 99% sure that my two examples are the only ones there are. If anyone does find another instance of a Mario game releasing in the States but not Canada, feel free to correct me. --The signature for the user SuperML. 20:58, 22 August 2018 (EDT)

If you want another counter example, what about games released simultaneously in other regions? Worldwide, for example, which has been happening a lot lately. What would we put together for that? Just seems easier to keep everything separate so it's easily edited to other game templates. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:02, 22 August 2018 (EDT)
You have a good point. Perhaps the American flag does represent Canada as well. The signature for the user SuperML. 21:32, 22 August 2018 (EDT)
It just references the U.S. but if we added a flag for Canada as well... White Lightning George Jones 21:40, 30 August 2018 (EDT)
