Type Sport Climbing

Sport Climbing is an Event featured in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. It is set at the Aomi Urban Sports Park. The aim of this event is to climb up a boulder wall as high as possible within ninety seconds. Rouge the Bat makes an appearance as this event's guest character. Mario can be seen taking part in this event in the game's opening.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, players will have to climb up a boulder wall as high as possible within ninety seconds. To start the event, they have to press L Button and R Button to grab the first grip. From this point on, they have to angle Control Stick to align a hand with a grip, let it go to make a hand move and then press L Button to make the hand stop, the aim being to make it stop directly above the grip. The more far the hand is from the boulder, the more grip energy the player will lose. There are also three special types of grips:

  • Blue grips acting as checkpoints.
  • Pink heart-shaped grips refilling the player's grip energy.
  • Rainbow-colored star-shaped grips allowing the player to perform a super move five times to climb the wall higher and faster by pressing L Button and R Button simultaneously when prompted.

The player can also rotate their free Control Stick to apply chalk and restore some grip energy.
