A Hyper Strike is a type of special move in Mario Strikers: Battle League. It acts as the successor to the Super Strikes and Mega Strikes from Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged respectively, though unlike those moves, each Hyper Strike has slightly different effects in the actual gameplay, rather than just aesthetic differences, making them comparable to the Special Shots in Mario Sports Mix. Like the Super Strike, Hyper Strikes grant two points instead of one if they score.

The player first needs to collect a Strike Orb which occasionally appears on the field, which will allow anyone on that team to use it once they have the ball and are on the other side of the field. In order to activate the Hyper Strike, the player in possession of the ball needs to perform a charged shot, which will cause their surroundings to slow down while a meter known as the Hyper Meter will appear. The meter resembles the one used for the Mega Strike, being a black arched meter with two sides with a teal zone, and two orange zones surrounding it. When the Hyper Meter appears, a white needle will start sliding across it. The player then needs to time a press of A Button so that the needle lands as close as it can to the teal zone of both sides, giving the Hyper Strike the highest possible power. If they land a side in the orange zone instead, the Hyper Strike will be slightly less powerful, while landing it in the black zone will make it weaker.

When a Hyper Strike is activated, a cutscene will initiate showing the character performing their specific actions. During that time, the visuals will transition into a cel-shaded style (similar to the artwork for the series) as the characters are preparing to shoot the ball. Right before they are about to shoot it, three freeze-frames of their face are shown, with the third one showing a close-up of their eyes covered in flames of a particular color. After shooting the ball, the game will transition back to regular gameplay showing their Hyper Strike in action. Each Hyper Strike conceptually does the same thing, which first involves knocking out or immobilizing any opponents in the way before shooting itself towards the goal, though how it does it and who it can affect differs between characters.

If the white needle is stopped in the teal zone on both sides of the Hyper Meter, the Hyper Strike outright guarantees a goal, as the ball automatically bypasses the opposing team's Boom Boom goalie without giving him the chance to stop it. However, if the meter did not land on the teal on both sides, then the ball will stop at Boom Boom right in front of the goal. At this point, the player will have to repeatedly press A Button to fill an arrow-shaped meter that stops the Hyper Strike from reaching the goal. However, the strength of the Hyper Strike will affect how much pressing the button will be required, with the more well-timed ones requiring more effort to block. Blocking a weaker Hyper Stike will have Boom Boom catch it and throw it to his teammates. Successfully blocking a stronger Hyper Strike will have Boom Boom deflect it, but stun him for a few seconds, which can result in the other team kicking the ball in the goal while he is down. Failing to block the Hyper Strike will result in it going through Boom Boom, giving the other team a goal.

List of Hyper StrikesEdit

Mario
Fire Cyclone Mario kicks the ball high into the air and jumps after it. He then flips and performs a bicycle kick with the ball towards the goal. The ball is sent spiraling while covered in flames, burning anyone who is in the way.
Luigi
Spin Tornado Luigi tosses the ball up and in front of him with his feet. After spinning around, he kicks the ball forward, with his kick causing the ball to start spinning around, creating a tornado. Opposing players that are too close to the tornado will be sucked in and thrown into the sky, allowing the tornado to shoot the ball into the goal. After the Hyper Strike ends, players that were thrown upwards by the tornado will come crashing back down.
Bowser
Flame Cannon Bowser picks up the ball with his hand and breathes fire on it. He then throws the fire-covered ball straight at the goal, burning anyone that is in the way.
Peach
Dance of Hearts Peach does a cartwheel while picking the ball up with her legs. She tosses it in the air, catches it, and rolls it along her arms before tossing it, now glowing pink, upwards. She then does a short jump upwards and kicks the ball, which travels in a heart-shaped pattern before heading for the goal. Any opponents that are in the ball's way will end up in a love trance. If Boom Boom fails to block the shot, he will end up in the love trance and manually roll the ball into the opponent's goal himself.
Rosalina
Orbital Burst Rosalina kicks the ball so high that it manages to break free from the stadium's dome, reach a soccer ball-shaped planet, orbit around it once, and begin coming back to her in the form of an icy comet. When the comet-shaped ball returns to Rosalina, she kicks it towards the goal, causing it to leave a trail of ice behind that can freeze anyone that is in the way.
Toad
Drill Smash Toad kicks the ball into the air, and four other Toads will appear next to him and toss him into the air. The playable Toad then headbutts the ball into the ground, where it will burrow underground until it reappears in front of the opposing team's goalie.
Yoshi
Egg Stomp Yoshi eats the ball and lays it as a giant egg. He then kicks the egg upwards, Flutter Jumps after it, and then does a Ground Pound on the egg, which will cause it to begin bouncing around the field at random locations, knocking away anyone it hits. After bouncing around a few times, the ball will break free from the egg before shooting itself towards the goal.
Donkey Kong
Banana Blast Donkey Kong, while holding the ball in one hand, takes out a banana with the other and eats it all in one bite. Empowered by the banana, he then throws the ball in the air and jumps after it. At the peak of the jump, he slams the ball down with his palm, causing a large shockwave that knocks other players around and sending the ball downwards towards the goal in a banana-shaped arch.
Wario
Electric Ricochet Wario tosses the ball in front of him and shakes his rear end at it. He then backflips into the air, and Ground Pounds the ball, causing it to rapidly bounce off the walls while covered in electricity, knocking out anyone that gets in its way, before rebounding into the goal.
Waluigi
Thorn Barrier Waluigi kicks the ball up and puts a rose in his mouth. The ball then lands on Waluigi's chest before going to his knee, foot, and sliding along his arms. When Waluigi kicks the ball forward, it begins moving in a curved pattern. Anyone that touches the ball as it travels to the goal will be entangled in vines and thorns, rendering them unable to move.
Shy Guy
Propeller Dive Shy Guy kicks the ball high up and a Fly Guy will appear carrying him upward. After that, he does a quick twirl before throwing Shy Guy toward the ball. While twirling, Shy Guy then headbutts the ball, where it will create a twirl of wind as it goes toward the goal. Any opponents getting caught in will spun around it and be thrown off afterward.
Daisy
Flower Spiral Daisy tosses the ball up, and bounces it on her knee before juggling the ball with her feet and bouncing it off with her rear end. As she kicks the ball, it will then move in a spiral pattern leaving behind a trail of flowers. If any opponents get caught on one of the flowers when they bloom, they will be sent upward. Once the ball is at the center, it will then shoot straight to the goal leaving behind a mark of Daisy's emblem on the ground.
Pauline
Swing Solo Pauline tosses the ball upwards with her feet, and then quickly catches a microphone that is tossed to her from offscreen. She will then knock the microphone into the ground before kicking down on the stand with her foot, causing the microphone to swing upwards and hit the ball. The ball will go upwards in an arch before touching the ground, which is when a bunch of music notes will attack opponents that are too close, causing them to be shocked. The ball will then shoot itself into the goal.
Diddy Kong
Barrel Boom While standing on his hands, Diddy Kong whistles, summoning a Barrel Cannon. Diddy Kong then does a flip kick to send the ball upwards before backflipping into the Barrel Cannon. The Barrel Cannon will fire Diddy Kong into the ball, which he hits with his tail. The ball will loop around once before splitting off into five energy blasts, the middle of which contains the ball and goes into the goal. Anyone that gets hit by the energy blasts will start continuously spinning.
Bowser Jr.
Twisting Knuckleball Bowser Jr. slams the ball to the ground hard enough that it flies upwards. Then, the Junior Clown Car appears, which Bowser Jr. hops into, before flying upwards towards the ball. The Junior Clown Car then takes out its boxing gloves, spins around and strikes the ball with full force with one of its fists, causing it to fly around in circular motions multiple times. Bowser Jr. himself will then spin around in his Clown Car, knocking back anyone who comes in contact with it, before the Junior Clown Car finally explodes, creating a massive shockwave and sending the ball flying straight towards the goal.
Birdo
Jewel Dance Birdo sucks the ball in her nozzle, then proceeds to spit out three egg-shaped disco balls, the last of which contains the ball. She then starts twirling around and kicks the egg containing the ball, causing it to shatter and the ball to bounce on the other two disco balls, which produce shockwaves that cause anyone who comes in contact with them to twirl in place for a few seconds. After bouncing on the third and final egg, the ball flies towards the goal.
