Cookie Mountain is a level in World 4 (Twin Bridges) in Super Mario World. Mario or Luigi will encounter large swarms of Monty Moles. Completing this stage gives access to Ludwig Von Koopa's Castle. This level also features the Sumo Bro., an enemy which will stomp the ground to create a fire obstacle in Mario's path. They can be stomped, hit from below, or cape-spun to be destroyed. Yoshi can also be found, but only if the player has previously hit the red switch in the Red Switch Palace.

Overview

At the beginning of Cookie Mountain, Mario (or Luigi) will encounter a Beach Koopa sliding down a hill, followed by two Monty Moles. After crossing a short gap, the player will encounter a Sumo Bro. who will stomp, causing fire to spring up beneath his platform. This Sumo Bro. is easily taken care of, keep in mind there is also a Monty Mole beneath the platform. The next section has 5 slanted platforms, the first slanted away from Mario, and the rest slanted towards him (there are also sliding Beach Koopas on the 2nd, 4th and 5th platforms). The player will also find the first Dragon Coin above the 2nd slanted platform. After progressing upwards, you will find a staircase-like structure with 4 Monty Moles who jump out at you. Afterwards, if you are Cape Mario (or an impressive jumper) flying up will lead you to a cloud platform from which a 1-Up is obtainable. If you opt to go below, the next 'mountain' contains another 4 Monty Moles who jump out in quick succession. The level begins to get difficult here as the player must maneuver past two hard-to-reach Sumo Bros. and a Monty Mole below (also note that the second Dragon Coin is easily noticeable below the first Sumo Bro.). After a simple Jumping Piranha Plant, you will reach the Midway Gate (good thing, considering what you're about to face).

A very large mountain up-ahead has 4 Monty Moles emerge if you stay to the ground, and another 2 if you climb the vine upwards (located in third block to the near right). If one decides to use this vine, they will find the third Dragon Coin, plus an easy 1-Up atop the mountain. Soon following the blue pipe, there will be a Monty Mole and a Item Block surrounded by two ♪ Blocks. The player can only obtain the Yoshi (or 1-Up) within if they have located and conquered the Red Switch Palace, as this is the only way to hit the blocks below. There will be 3 mini-mountains up-ahead containing a total of 4 Monty Moles, and the fourth Dragon Coin atop the second mountain. If the player managed to find the Yoshi, he or she will be able to eat a Power-Up of their choice from the box located at ground level. The second of 3 silver pipes contains a Jumping Piranha Plant, which may or may not be an issue (depending on Power-Ups and skill level). The final Dragon Coin is above either a gap or green blocks, depending on the status of the Green Switch Palace, followed by a small platform and either another gap or red blocks.

The upcoming section may be difficult for new players, so take caution in advance. There will be two Sumo Bros. on two levels of Item Blocks, both attempting to hurt and/or halt Mario or Luigi. It is recommended that the player deal with the lower Brother first, and then attempt to take out-or simply run past-the second one (a Feather or Mushroom will appear after hitting the third block from the left on the lower set). Finally, to finish off the level, the player will need to defeat a Chargin' Chuck which can be defeated with 3 jumps, 5 fireballs, or one cape-spin. If the player wishes to achieve a higher goal , he/she should stand atop the blue pipe.
