Welcome! The goal of this page is to document various character alter-egos, and see whether they have enough to warrant receiving their own List of [subject] alter egos page. It is directly related to the project on this page.

Criteria for inclusion

(This system is incomplete and subject to change.)

• Subjects would need at least five separate alter-egos to qualify for an article. (Example: Dr. Mario, Mr. Pipe, The Provolone Ranger, Otosan Yoshi) The character’s “normal” persona does not count towards this total.

• All alter-ego on this page must be explicitly given a name. Unnamed disguises, alternate costumes, powerups, lookalikes, and alternate names for the character in question do not count. (Examples: Mario wearing a wolf costume, Mario in a chef outfit, Wario (form), Metal Mario (character), Jumpman, etc.

• Shared transformations without unique names for the transformed character do not count. (Example: Koopa Zombie, Pig, Goomba (film character), etc)

• Mind-controlled/amnesiac characters who assume alternate identities do count. (Examples: Zokket, Mr. L, Rookie, etc.)
  • The character must change their identity in some aspect. Simpler forms of amnesia/mind-control, such as Floro Sprout Luigi,^{[conjectural]} Lame Brained Mario,^{[conjectural]} or Glohmed [subject] do not count.

• Possessed characters generally do not count. (Example: Bowletta, Cursa, Shadow Queen, etc.)

• Identities which involve assuming the identity of a pre-existing character do count. (Example: Luigi disgusted as Princess Peach in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga)
  • The character must actively be impersonating the identity of the subject they are disguised as/transformed into. Simply wearing an outfit which makes them resemble the appearance of another character does not count, nor does swapping bodies with another character, nor does merely imitating their voice/mannerisms with no visual change otherwise.
  • Mario briefly transforming into other characters during the pantomime-explanation sequences of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars does not count towards this list.

Issues

• Dr. Mario World's doctors. Every playable character in that game is a doctor. Dr. Luigi, Dr. Wario, Dr. Peach, and Dr. Bowser all get a pass due to appearing outside of that game, but the others... will need some further discussion.
• The Valiant Comics King Koopa alter-egos are largely unverified. It is not currently clear how many of them are actually "Bowser with a different persona/costume" and how many are simply "same guy with a different name."
• Luigi Kong. It is a transformation, and may not count as a separate persona.
• Wario-Man. Ambiguous for a similar reason to Luigi Kong. Although, it is only depicted as anything resembling a "power-up" in the Super Smash Bros. series.
• Shadow Mario. Ambiguous for a similar reason to Luigi Kong and Wario-Man.
• Bowser, King of the Koopas. May or may not contradict the "alternate names for the character in question do not count." clause.
