Solo Toadies[1] (singular Solo Toady) are enemies in the Yoshi series. They are purple variants of Toadies that as their name suggest, are usually seen in solitary, waiting for Baby Mario to dislodge from a Yoshi to kidnap him, but sometimes they appear in large groups aswell.

History

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Solo Toadies first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They first appear in The Baseball Boys and reappear in the following levels: Watch Out For Lakitu, More Monkey Madness, Don't Look Back!, BLIZZARD!!! and The Cave Of The Bandits. Unlike other types of enemies in this game, Solo Toadies do not physically appear in the levels. Instead, they only appear in some areas after the Yoshi dislodges Baby Mario to kidnap the latter. After the Solo Toady kidnaps Baby Mario, it will fly quickly away from Yoshi, moving in a zigzag pattern. This prevents him from retrieving Baby Mario and causing the Countdown Timer to run out. Like Green Toadirs, Solo Toadies cannot pass through walls. Yoshi can retrieve Baby Mario by touching the Solo Toady, which makes it fly away quickly, or by defeating it by hitting it with an egg, swallowing it to turn it into an egg, or using a Special Item.

Yoshi Touch & Go

Solo Toadies reappear in Yoshi Touch & Go. They only appear in Time Attack mode, and unlike their previous appearance, this time they can also appear in groups. In the game mode, occasionally, one or a group of Solo Toadies fly horizontally to the right. Yoshi can avoid them by either changing his path quickly or by defeating some of them. Additionally, when Yoshi encounters Kamek's Toadies, a large group of Solo Toadies appears to act as bodyguards for them. Yoshi must defeat some of them to be able to attack Kamek's Toadies before the timer runs out. Solo Toadies can be defeated with just one egg and do not give any points.

Solo Toadies return in Yoshi's New Island. Like their appearance in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, they only appear after Baby Mario dislodges from Yoshi, to kidnap the former. If the Solo Toady tocuhes the Yoshi they move in a circle pattern rapidly around trying to evade him. Solo Toadies appear only in Underground Pokey Patrol.
