Merge[edit]

I originally thought this was a special Star Thwomp, before recently realizing Star Thwomps were called "Super Thwomps" (in Japanese, as well) back in the day. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 16:23, July 17, 2025 (EDT)

this seems like a completely unrelated "Super Thwomp". it has nothing to do with Super Mario Kart in its original appearance. unless new information comes to light, i'm removing the suggested merge. — eviemaybe Tanooki Mario's tail, cropped (talk) 16:40, January 13, 2026 (EST)
Right as I was doing it... the point is, a lot of Super Mario-kun enemy gets this treatment of "relevance" even without turning in monsters like the Muteki Kyodai Pakkun. This is supposed to be a Star Thwomp with a small difference (the spot on the forehead, something done since the Fake Bowser in the SMBTLL manga) treated as an RPG boss. And just realized: those dots ARE also in the Super Thwomp's sprite. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 16:50, January 13, 2026 (EST)
while those are some points in support of your idea, it is still not enough to unilaterally merge the page without a vote or without any other person verbally agreeing with you. for the moment, i am going to revert your edits. i ask you to please wait until a discussion is had before taking these decisions. — eviemaybe Tanooki Mario's tail, cropped (talk) 16:58, January 13, 2026 (EST)
It's not just "my point": when I created the page I had no idea that Star Thwomps were named Super Thwomps. This should have been done long ago, and as I was remaking the manga references, this came up. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 17:56, January 13, 2026 (EST)

Proposal for the merge[edit]

This page is about a Super Thwomp, therefore it should be part of that article. When I first made this page, I was not aware Star Thwomps were originally named Super Thwomps, not I realized this was supposed to be one, but between the Star affiliation, the six dots present in the flashing sprite... this is a Star Thwomp, and if its acting different it's just for the setting: a RPG-styled adventure (this is not new in the Super Mario-kun world for an enemy to have a "important monster" treatment). So... let's merge. Tried to myself, but someone decided IN THE SAME MINUTE to care that the "Merge proposal" template was up for months. Merge[edit]

  1. Mariuigi Khed (talk): Per proposal
  2. Super Wandering Poplin (talk) It's a little strange seeing this Thwomp outside of its usual context, but other than that, I agree that this is probably meant to be the same thing.
  3. Sorbetti (talk) This is just a Star Thwomp with a different role. We don't split enemies that have different roles, which is why a proposal was made to merge the characters from Mario Party Advance with their respective pages, even if they had unique English names. Mario Kun often invents unique characters, but if those characters don't have a unique name and their appearance is the same as an enemy's, then it's just a common enemy with a different role, one thing that Mario Kun also commonly does. There can always be exceptions like Blooper (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door), but I think this case is a clean merge.
  4. Rykitu (talk) Per all.
  5. Power Flotzo (talk) Per all.
  6. Nintendo101 (talk) Seems reasonable to me.

Oppose[edit]

Comments[edit]

i will admit that the evidence seems compelling upon review (though i still stand by my decision of blocking the merge until it went through the proper channels), though i am still skeptical. why is there a Super Mario Kart hazard appearing as a boss in an original story in the Super Mario Land 2 volume of the manga? are we sure these are the same thing? do we have any other evidence other than the name (which could very well indicate its boss-like status) and the six dots (admittedly a pretty close match, as the sprites of no other contemporary Thwomp have that arrangement of dots, however, it's Really hard to see it on the SMK sprite, especially on 90s CRTs, so it might be a coincidence)? does Super Dossun exhibit any Star Thwomp-like characteristics within the story, such as flickering or being in space? — eviemaybe Tanooki Mario's tail, cropped (talk) 21:19, January 13, 2026 (EST)

The same reason as one of the ally of SML2 being a Yoshi Cookie: for fun. First off, that chapter is not related to SML2, it's an original story set up in an RPG game, as a way to joke how a Mario RPG game would look like (and look at that, he even predicted one plot point from the 4th RPG game: a village turning into pigs). Using enemies from "minor games" it's normal: Donkey Kong Jr. appears in the final SMW chapters to reference Super Mario Kart for no logical reason, other than "I'm not gonna do an arc based on that game, might as well include these elements in". And before that, he even included stuff from Super Mario Bros. 2, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Bros. 3, and even A Link to the Past. Do we have separate pages for the Phanto attaching to Luigi and turning him into a bully? No. Do we have a separate page for Totomesu because he disguises as Peach? No. Do we have a separate page for the lonely Ptooie that didn't join the SMB3 army a few chapters back? No. Every new enemy, in every story arc, is depicted as a hard boss. Heck, even the Goomba from SMBTLL is at first depicted like that (jumps, runs, breathes fire, enlarges), but we have a separate page because he turns into an important character, but if he didn't he would still be in the Goomba section. The Minikyura in the following volume is at first normal, then turns into a vampire monster, and finally a pair of floating fangs, but it's still Minikyura, it's called Minikyura. This manga gives more priority to the slapsticks than the game accuracy: Wart is immune to vegetables, turns into an amalgamation of the SMB2 bosses, and is ultimately defeated by Yoshi and Bowser's Minions. It's still Wart, not another character, just like President Koopa is Bowser's counterpart AND covered in Bowser's page. Now, if they WERE to turn into other creatures, like the Muteki Kyodai Pakkun, or the Pakkun Mogura... that's another thing: it's a named transformation, it's very different from the original form, sometimes PREDATING the game existance of such enemy, THEN it makes sense to serparate it: this is not that case. Super Thwomps, aka "invincible" Thwomps, were already a thing. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 04:11, January 14, 2026 (EST)
Not to be "that guy," but technically, it was the 'fourth' RPG game. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga released a year before Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Thanks, I did a brain-mix-up with another project. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 11:38, January 14, 2026 (EST)
