So, on the page for Burn, there is a brief mention of a status known as "Char" in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, which serves as a more powerful version of the effect. This, however, is split off, presumably for being called "Charred", not "Char", and because in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (and, supposedly, the original game, though this is far more inconvenient for us to test, personally), it can only be inflicted onto enemies, not onto the brothers.
So, imagine our surprise when we see this page in the list of pages that need images, we fire up our copy, inflict the status effect, and see that it is, in fact,
named Char.
No trailing "-red" in sight. So, like... Clearly, in the current state, and with the knowledge that the name "Charred" is inaccurate, this has a very hard time justifying its split. It's not like we usually split status aliments for being different in who can be inflicted by them, Poison (status effect) in The Thousand Year Door isn't split up because it can technically be inflicted on enemies, leaving this as a weird one-off exception... And, only partially, as the Char information is still on the Burn page for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam anyways.
The way we see it, there are 3 clear ways forward:
- Merge the info to Burn: Simple-as. All this goes into the page for Burn. Best if you don't think Char is
- Rename to "Char", and move Char's information here: Rather than merge this page to Burn, fully commit to splitting Char off of it, and, for good measure, rename the page to "Char", as that's its name in the most recent game it appears in (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions).
- Do nothing/status quo: Self-explanatory. We... Can't say we recommend this, as this inherently means keeping the page at "Charred" when it's not even called that in the game this page is about, but, it is an option.

Merge with Burn[edit]
- Altendo (talk) I mean, it was once called "Severe Burn", effectively being a more powerful version of Burn. I don't even think that page is linked to Charred (navboxes don't count), and seeing how short this page is, I can see it harmlessly merging into the Superstar Saga portion of the Burn page in full, as this page doesn't even cover Dream Team and Paper Jam; I think the Char(red) segments of those sections being similar to the Charred page are enough to warrant a full merge into Burn.
- Sparks (talk) Char is basically a stronger "Burn" status effect that operates the same way, just with more damage.
- PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per Altendo and Sparks.
- Ihavenoideaboyo (talk)rred We have enough small, scattered pages on the wiki that could and should be merged as it is. We don't need a seperate page for one that's explicitly a worse version of Burn (per Altendo's account).
- Camwoodstock (talk) Secondary opinion. While we could see the merit in a separate Char page if it appears in more games, or if one of its appearance has some actual mechanical difference beyond "uh, in one game, you can only inflict it, and not be inflicted by it", for right now, we feel like this is roughly like "Poisoned/Badly Poisoned" from Pokemon, which, hey, Bulbapedia merges those two.
- Martendo (talk) Per all.
Rename to Char, and move Char info off Burn's page, into here[edit]
- Camwoodstock (talk) We feel like, by virtue of being in at least 3 games under the "Char" name, there's just enough here to justify a full page all to itself. We could be convinced that a merge with Burn is also fine, but to be honest, we just want something to happen here, as the current status quo of the page is... Less than ideal.
- Salmancer (talk) What's wrong with having more articles? I like having more articles, and this is distinct from Burn. Or well, it's as distinct from Burn as Block Monolift X is from Block Monolift: appears in different scenarios and has different numbers. Minor differences are differences, and we are supposed to be an in depth wiki.
- Technetiun (talk) Per all.
Keep split/Status Quo[edit]
Comments (Some joke about Mr. Burns here)[edit]
Looking up the page history, this was made in 2016. I'm guessing Prima called it "severe burn" because it's just a stronger version of burn. After all, they called "Max" poison Deadly Poison because 1. It didn't have a name yet and 2. It's just a stronger version of Poison. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:55, November 11, 2025 (EST)
Just wanted to say hello, @Technetium. Or should I say, "Technetiun"? Altendo 13:42, November 11, 2025 (EST)
