Mario Kart North American Open

Mario Kart North American Opens, also referred to as North American Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Opens and known in-game as "Mario Kart NA Open", are online tournament sessions available only to residents of Canada, Mexico, and the United States. They typically consist of three daily tournaments.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Summit Invitational Tournament (《马力欧卡丁车8 豪华版》“巅峰邀请赛”) was an event in 2020 which consisted of two phases: an online qualifier (held July 18, 2020, detailed below) and an offline competition (held July 31, 2020 in Shanghai). The top four players in the qualifier would go on to participate in the offline competition against four other "mystery guests". The event was promoted on the Nintendo Switch account operated by Tencent on Bilibili.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Tournaments

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Tournaments (《马力欧卡丁车8 豪华版》线上巡回赛) were a series of 12 monthly online tournament sessions starting from March 20, 2021. Each session was named after a cup from the base game (i.e. Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, etc. up to Bell Cup). All participants in a given tournament session received a physical Mario Kart 8 Deluxe medal engraved with the symbol of the tournament's represented cup; players who participated in at least three tournaments from different sessions also received a special collector's case for the medals. The top three players on each day of a given tournament session received additional prizes, dubbed "speed prizes".

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe National Battle Team Open Tournament

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe National Battle Team Open Tournament (《马力欧卡丁车8 豪华版》全民战队公开赛) refers to the online period of a team-based tournament announced on May 18, 2021. It consisted of a series of qualifying rounds which determined 16 teams that would compete in a separate season. 4 teams would then advance to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Open Team Championship, held locally. The qualifying rounds had a total of 119 participating teams and amounted to 287 individual races.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Open Team Championship (《马力欧卡丁车8 豪华版》全民战队公开赛) was a competition held in Shanghai on August 1, 2021, following the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe National Battle Team Open Tournament. It was divided into two sessions: a friendly match that occurred between 17:00 and 19:00 CST, and the main final which began at 19:00 CST. The teams that competed in the final were named CCH, Boo2, HYG, and LNH. Teams HYG and LNH battled for the championship, while CCH and Boo2 competed in the third-place match. The event was presented by e-sports commentators Píngguǒ, Kěn shū, and Yan Zijing GwAwa, and was broadcast live officially on several platforms including Tencent Video, Bilibili, DouYu, Huya Live, Kuaishou, and WeChat.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Seasonal Circuit

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Seasonal Circuits are periodic in-game tournament sessions promoted by Nintendo of Europe. They consist of one or more tournaments open only to residents of a given country or group of countries. The winners of a tournament in a Seasonal Circuit earn physical Mario Kart-inspired prizes, such as clothing, toys, and Nintendo Switch cases, in addition to My Nintendo Gold Points.

Benelux

2021–2022

Each Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Seasonal Circuit Benelux tournament starting with the 2021 Spring Cup and up to the 2022 Winter Cup ran alongside a screenshot contest held by Nintendo Nederland on Twitter: tournament participants could share a screenshot of their race using a specific hashtag, and the best three entries would be decided by Dutch YouTuber Rickachu. Winning users would earn physical Mario Kart products, such as a Banana-shaped cushion or a Red Shell lamp.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Seasonal Circuit Spain (For Fun), or simply Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for fun, was a friendly team-based tournament occurring as part of the larger 2022 Spain event. It split players in two teams, namely Team Kart (Equipo Kart) and Team Bike (Equipo Moto). The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge (マリオカート8 デラックス オンラインチャレンジ) was an online tournament open to residents of Japan. It was part of a number of Online Challenges held across Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Splatoon 2 which acted as qualifiers for the tournaments at Nintendo Live 2022. Players could only register for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge by way of an invitation received from Nintendo of Japan via e-mail; to be eligible for the invitation, players needed a Nintendo Account with an e-mail notification setting enabled. These conditions had to be satisfied until August 14, 2021, and the registration itself could be performed until August 19, 2021. The top four players of the online tournament went on to participate in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge Final Stage.

One hundred tournament participants were selected at random to receive a limited edition Mario Kart 8 Deluxe-themed folding fan.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2022 was an invitational competition at PAX West 2022, whose participants were the top twelve players of the Mario Kart North American Open July 2022. The competition was held in conjunction with the Splatoon 3 Enter the Splatlands Invitational 2022. Commentated by sports announcer Jordan Kent, esports announcer "EEvisu", and Mario Kart North American Open champion "BearUNLV", the tournament was streamed live on Nintendo of America's official YouTube and Twitch channels. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe North American Qualifier 2023

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe North American Qualifier 2023 was an open tournament held in the Nintendo Free Play Area at PAX East 2023 on March 25, 2023. The tournament consisted of two separate events which, along with the online-held Mario Kart 8 Deluxe North American Qualifier 2022, decided a number of contestants who would go on to participate in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2023. In order to participate in either event, attendants had to first reserve a Warp Pipe Pass.

Starting with 144 players, each event consisted of three rounds that would gradually narrow down the number of competitors to 12. The format of an event was as follows:

• the first round consisted of 3 phases, each of which divided competitors into 4 groups dubbed "Group A", "Group B", "Group C", and "Group D". After 4 races, the top 4 players of each group advanced to the second round.
• in the second round, the top 4 players from the groups sharing the same designation across round 1's phases competed against each other (i.e. the top 4 players of Groups A from each of the three phases competed against each other etc.) After 4 races, the top 3 players of each group advanced to the third round.
• in the third round, the top 3 players of each group in round 2 competed against each other. The top 3 players by the end of the event were determined the Grand Prize Winners, while the other players who competed in round 3 were determined the First Prize Winners.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2023 was an invitational tournament at PAX East 2023 whose participants were selected from the top players of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe North American Qualifier 2022 and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe North American Qualifier 2023. It preceded the Splatoon 3 North American Championship 2023. Jordan Kent and "BearUNLV" returned from the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2022 to provide commentary for the tournament.
