So, in the game itself, Super Mario Odyssey explicitly considers this object to be a , as evident right here. Per our own naming policies, this should take priority over the names in the accompanying Prima Guide, which is not even consistent. It is called a "song note" and a "music note" interchangeably with "treble clef". Further, in The Art of Super Mario Odyssey, a direct translation of Japanese text, it is also just called a note, not a treble clef. So, while certainly conceptually related to ? Coins, I think it is more accurate to consider the treble clef to be a type of note that just triggers a string of succeeding notes to appear. I do not think it is intended to be a separate object and it would be more accurate for them to share a page.

So, in the game itself, Super Mario Odyssey explicitly considers this object to be a note, as evident right here.

I can see this not being preferred by some. In the real world, a treble clef is not a musical note. But I don't think that's relevant here because the notes in Super Mario are themselves not "real" musical notes, are they? They are not on a page, their position in space does not influence the sounds they make, and the player does not reference them to play specific songs. They are just shaped like music notes.

I offer two options:

 1. Merge treble clef with note.
 2. Keep them separate.

Merge treble clef with note[edit]

 1. Nintendo101 (talk) Per proposal.
 2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per proposal--if the game itself calls them Notes, we don't see any reason to really refute it. Besides, if notes can be different colors, different shapes probably isn't too big of a stretch.
 3. Hewer (talk) Per proposal, the game couldn't be much more direct in calling these notes (and it's also strangely bold of this article to say that the name is "erroneous").
 4. Sparks (talk) Per all.
 5. FanOfRosalina2007 (talk) Per all.
 6. MegaBowser64 (talk) It is a VERY sad day for the musically literate. The treble clef will forever go down in history among Mario fans as a musical note (it is not), but alas, 'tis necessary to maintain a clearly organized wiki. Sometimes one must lie to keep the masses happy. Per all.
 7. Mario (talk) Calling this a "note" is as bad as a mistake as Smash Bros. calling their new recordings """remixes""". Anyway, this isn't the first time a score notation has been used as a "note", we had Catchy Tunes commit the same crime, and Bass AND Sharp ended up as casualties too!
 8. ThePowerPlayer (talk) Per all.
 9. Remembered Old Buddy (talk) Per all.
 10. JanMisali (talk) Per all.

Keep them separate[edit]

Comments[edit]

@Mario clearly they do not let Koji Kondo into the room when they are naming these subjects. - Nintendo101 (talk) 21:51, April 3, 2024 (EDT)
