Merge

Wasn't this referring to the Pure Heart? -- Son of Suns

Yeah; I think the "ruins" are the Whoa Zone. 3dhammer.gif 3D, WII! 3dhammer.gif

Quote change?

Alright, since Mario & Luigi undid my change of the quote at the top of the page and said that a discussion was needed, I decided to add said discussion.

Personally, I don't understand why Mr. L's quote is up there. It doesn't really describe the Pure Hearts that well and mainly focuses on their apparent weakness (when they're not really weak at all). There's plenty of other quotes in the game that describe the Pure Hearts, and I chose one of the most obvious one, which I think is definitely more fitting than what we have now. Thoughts? I reverted it; that quote you placed there is actually better describing the purpose of the Pure Hearts in Super Paper Mario. Discussion is needed if there are any major changes planned to any article. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Fan! User Page | Talk Page 22:14, 19 October 2011 (EDT)

Problem

Luvbi

Luvbi is a Pure Heart in disguise. We already have a picture of it here. Should we have separate images where we have the first reveal or the Heart Pillar version? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:01, 31 January 2016 (EST)

Hm? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:19, 9 February 2016 (EST)
Doesn't matter anymore. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:26, 9 February 2016 (EST)

Icons

I uploaded a higher quality version of this image here. File:Red Pure Heart.PNG is inferior but it looks like it was captured when it was already inserted into a Heart Pillar. The one I uploaded was captured as Merlon was first showing it to Mario. What should we do? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:58, 31 January 2016 (EST)

Yours is better, so I think we should use yours while removing the low-quality image. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:37, 31 January 2016 (EST)
Yeah, but my image has artifacts on the outline of the Red Pure Heart. That's just due to how Super Paper Mario wants to render things. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:39, 31 January 2016 (EST)
If it actually looks like that in-game, then that's really a non-issue. If it doesn't, then retake it, I guess. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:50, 31 January 2016 (EST)
YoshiGo99 (talk) uploaded icon versions of the Pure Hearts found on the file select screen. Is that acceptable or should we have the in-game model as well? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:04, 6 February 2016 (EST)
Yeah, I think the sprites are good. We don't need the render. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:18, 9 February 2016 (EST)
OK, I guess we'll save the rendered version for this scene. Talk page section settled. Removed {{talk}}.--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:26, 9 February 2016 (EST)

Triangle Love

Question.svg This talk page or section has a conflict or a question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

I definitely think each Pure Heart represents a different type of love, and it would be worth going over that in the article, but the current "source(s) of love" in the chart seem wrong. I.e. there's too much overlap with maternal, paternal and familial, and hope has nothing to do with love. However, the Triangular theory of love (based on whether different types of love have intimacy, passion, commitment or combinations of the three) seems to fit really well:

  • Friendship - intimacy only - Green: Tippi feels a rush of (platonic) warmth and closeness to her new friends upon being rescued
  • Infatuation - passion only - Orange: Merlumina is all about passion, but it's fleeting and shallow
  • Empty - commitment only - Indigo: King Croacus loves his people and they love him, but it's dutiful, not intimate or passionate
  • Romantic - intimacy and passion - Violet: The romance between King Sammer I and Merlumina's sister
  • Companionship - intimacy and commitment - Blue: The love of Squirps's mom, which endured long after she herself was gone
  • Fatuous - passion and commitment - Yellow: Merlee is a passionate lady and committed to the prophesy of the Four Heroes, but never really has any love interests or close connections, iirc
  • Consummate - all three - White: Jaydes and Grambi's love for each other was so deep, it brought Luvbi to life, 'nuff said
  • Nonlove - none - Red: The leadup to the receiving of the first heart is the bastardization of love calling forth the Chaos Heart and Void, so the less extreme version of that is simply the absence of love; plus, you're just given it right at the beginning, and love takes time to grow, so yeah, I think it works well enough

If anyone has feedback, let me know.
