Goonies are white birds found in the games Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Island DS and Game & Watch Gallery 3 Goonies are essentially Dinosaur Land's answer to the seagull. They appear in most mountain levels and are always found in groups. There are many different varieties of Goonies. Gray Goonies flock around oceans. There is a Dry Bones-like variety of Goonie, known as the Skeleton Goonie, which usually carries bombs. Goonies have many different behaviors; some fly and carry items while the flightless ones run along the ground to create a blockade. Some are very fat and try to squash Yoshis by rolling around like large boulders. Jumping on their heads is a good way to hitch a ride, but when they appear in large flocks, air traffic becomes a major obstacle.
Other Appearances
- A Goonie appeared in Tetris Attack, it allied with Lakitu.
- Goonies make a minor appearance in Yoshi Touch & Go.
- In Yoshi's Story, Goonies appeared only in Stage 3-3: Poochy and Nippy, and some even held bombs. Gray Goonies appeared in Stage 5-4: Shy Guy's Ship. They couldn't hurt the Yoshis directly in this game.
- In Game & Watch Gallery 3, Goonies appear in the game Turtle Bridge. They are used for relaying packages between Toad and Mario. Sometimes the Goonies will dive at passing balloons.
- In Paper Mario, during the cutscene where Mario rides the Whale to Lavalava Island, a Goonie can be seen flying over the ocean. Unlike most characters in Paper Mario (one of the few other exceptions being the Whale himself), this Goonie was three-dimensional.
- Goonies appear in Yoshi's Island DS. This games has two levels named after Goonies: Goonie Heights and The Goonie Coast Isn't Clear!. A Goonie boss named Moltz also appears.
- Goonies appear in the Super Smash Bros. series in the background of the Yoshi's Island stages (unlockable in Melee and instantly available in Brawl).
- Goonies have a very minor appearance in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story during the Bowser's Castle fight. When Bowser attacks, Goonies occasionally fly out from under the castle.
- Goonies made a cameo in Cheep-Cheep Island in Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
