2. No swearing or obscenity. These words will get edited out ASAP.
 3. Please don't ask why I reverted or corrected your edit. Usually, I have a good reason and can back it up. Take a look at my contributions or the page history for more information regarding your edit, if available. If you must, you can ask for clarification, but only if you provide more than "Why did you delete my edit?!" (which will get removed).
 4. Questions about my Power Master games and/or YouTube videos are fine. There are other places for those kinds of talk, of course, but I don't mind them on here.
 5. Any questions relating to a different wiki, please post on my talk page there. If you're here to complain about a block I gave you on other wikis, your comment will be removed, though I may clarify a block on Discord if needed. Big Boss Bertha[edit]

Hi, may I ask why you're so against merging Boss Bass with Big Cheep Cheep, and even more puzzling, disagree with the merging of Boss Bass and Big Bertha, which share graphics and names with each other and are just an enlarged form of Cheep Cheep, which had 5 distinct behaviors in SMB3 (significantly more than the 2 different behaviors displayed by them) and were only given distinct names in a long-out-of-date strategy guide from 30 years ago, particularly given the other names for the "big" enemies it gave have been similarly overwritten? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:08, November 2, 2019 (EDT)

Having the same Japanese name in the same game (as is the case for Boss Bass and Big Bertha) is not only significant, it's an undeniable smoking gun. They literally share a bio and sprites, and have even less difference between the two of them than the Cheeps in SMB3. As for Cheep Chomp, that's a bit more complicated; the "Pukupuku" in SM64 was likely intended as a Blurp, hence the appearance, while Bubba (Bakubaku) was derived from it. If it were intended as a type of Cheep Cheep then, they would more likely have named it something like "Pakkun Puku" or something like that. Additionally, Boss Bass's design is used by normal Cheeps when they jump in SMW2YI and in Parachute, meaning the "squinty" look isn't unique to them. They are literally just a large Cheep Cheep, like the "Blurps" in YS that act like Boss Bass but look just like a scaled-up Cheep. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:07, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
Address my points, please. It comes off like you're deliberately dodging the question, which is ultra rude. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:29, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
You never addressed how the same name is within the same game (which is significant), how they have the same artwork and bio, or (most importantly) the "behavioral difference" is irrelevant because normal Cheeps in SMB3 have even more behavioral differences, yet they aren't split, and two of the five behaviors were enlarged to make Boss Bass and Big Bertha. There is too much alike to not have them merged. Keeping them split would be like splitting up the Chargin' Chucks, despite two behaviors being unnamed. Anyways, I'm not making the proposal now, because 1) I'm very busy at the moment due to midterms with me taking 6 different classes this semester, and 2) I want LTL to be around because he's good at covering my back with these. Regardless, the proposal ain't about Bass with Bertha; they're already merged as they should be. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:17, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
Don't worry, I'm a little stressed myself from a certain Zelda-related incident (that I shall say no more about). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:42, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
Large-sized generic Cheeps have acted as Boss Bass in early Mario Party games as well as Parachute. Heck, that's what the YS Blurps are. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:02, November 3, 2019 (EST)
Most things are spinoffs; the Super Mario series had only 3 Nintendo EAD-developed games between SMB3 and NSMB. In fact, one of those games (Sunshine) had a "normal" Cheep that swam around and attempts (unsuccessfully) to eat Mario. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:37, November 3, 2019 (EST)
They are. I'm saying the sample size you are demanding is far too small. Additionally, in SMW2, when normal Cheeps jump in an arc, they take the "large mouth and squinty eyes" appearance of Boss Bass. SM64DS conflated a totally different-but-similar enemy with the SM64 enemy, but unlike with Ukiki, that got quickly sorted out by leaving the appearance and behavior with Cheep Chomp and making Boss Bass a more generic-acting Cheep. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:38, November 3, 2019 (EST)
Furthermore, I fail to see how Yoshi's Story is a spinoff; its content and aesthetic continues to influence the Mario franchise to this day. It's where Yoshis got their "non-mount" anatomy, after all. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:04, November 3, 2019 (EST)
One more point: Big Bertha (Boss Bass underwater) is nonaggressive; just like the NSMB versions of Big Cheep Cheep, which are additionally found underwater. The Big Bertha acts as a larger version of SMB3's underwater (and thus, green) Cheep Cheeps, as such simply moving back and forth, with the Baby Cheep existing for no other purpose to provide more "reach." In the NSMB games, underwater Cheeps (and thus, Big Cheeps) now move forever forward, and as such no more "reach" can be gained. On the flipside, Boss Bass's role of "giant counterpart for jumping Cheep" has gone to Spike Bass and later Porcupuffer; itself the "giant Cheep" from SMW. Basically, it doesn't go back to its old behavior because a less-lethal creature currently occupies that niche. (Also, you could probably read walls of text on here better without that inane background, just sayin') Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:10, November 4, 2019 (EST)
Again, the extra reach is no longer necessary, so the extra modeling is eschewed. Regardless, regarding amount of behaviors depending on game, Porcupuffer's had the same amount in platforming games, and Boss Bass/big Blurp/Mega Cheep-Cheep/Big Cheep Cheep has always been designed as simply an enlarged Cheep Cheep, even back in SMB3. I work with SMB3 sprites, and it's really just a "blurriness-fixed" version of an enlarged Cheep sprite from the game, with the gaping mouth being to feasibly fit Super Mario in it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:29, November 4, 2019 (EST)
Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that in NSMBW and/or NSMBU, where Big Cheep Cheep is only half again as large as normal Cheep Cheep, it isn't textually differentiated from "normal" Cheep Cheep, thus putting it situationally on the same level as the Mario Party 1-3 examples. And at this point, Mario Party is hardly a "spinoff" anymore due to the amount and regularity of the entries. And while yes, it's true that the same JP name dos automatically mean a merge (hence why I made a new article for Rotten Mushroom), the genericness of the word "big" makes it more clear-cut, as the other "big" enemies of the era also share that. Big Piranha Plant has a totally different behavior between SMB3 and NSMB as well, and wouldn't be piped in a NSMB game until U. The main exception to the "big" thing is the Wiggler, but that had the typical later one in the data unused alongside it, and was "kyodai" after the old "kyodai" had become "dai." (and yes I'm up really frackin' late, it's 3 in the morning here) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:08, November 4, 2019 (EST)
For now, I'm going to follow LTL's advice and sit on it until further still evidence comes up, instead working on less....controversial proposals. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:32, November 4, 2019 (EST)

Facts have not been updated[edit]

The Did You Know facts have not been updated since last October and I left a commernt on that page stating that it has not been updated. FireyYoshi (talk) 15:14, November 10, 2019 (EST)

Here's another poem I wrote called "Mario and Luigi." What do you think of this one?

Mario and Luigi
Are the heroes of a land.
In the Mushroom Kingdom,
Princess Peach is in their hands.
Toad and Yoshi are also there
And sometimes help the Mario Bros.
But after they stop a capture,
King Bowser just does another. Dwhitney (talk) 13:26, November 12, 2019 (EST)

Pretty good, except "Bros." and "another" don't really rhyme. If "Bros." was "Brothers", that would work a little better. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:13, November 12, 2019 (EST)
"Bros." is meant to say "Brothers," but the phrase is commonly spelled "Mario Bros." Dwhitney (talk) 16:57, November 12, 2019 (EST)
Sure, though "Bros." is often just pronounced "bros". Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:33, November 12, 2019 (EST)

Ftr, the edit you reverted is a Simpsons joke. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 20:00, November 14, 2019 (EST)

I don't watch Simpsons, nor am I knowledgeable on meme lingo :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:02, November 14, 2019 (EST)

G&WG series appearances[edit]

Again, Baby Yoshis don't appear in the Modern version of Fire. The Yoshis may be smaller than Mario and Luigi, but the G&WG 4 cast credits say "Yoshi" under Fire and not "Baby Yoshi." Also, the Yoshi sprite looks a little different from the Baby Yoshi sprite, in my opinion. For these reasons, I'd like to remove the Fire Baby Yoshi appearance info from the Baby Yoshi article, but I'd also like to remove the Fire Yoshi image from the Baby Yoshi article. What do you think? Dwhitney (talk) 14:14, November 16, 2019 (EST)

Alright, that makes more sense to me. Sure, I'll agree with that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:14, November 16, 2019 (EST)

I respectfully believe you're thinking too hard about this. The Rabbits in Super Mario 64 DS are never actually given a name to refer to, they're just generic "species", so I'm not sure what you mean by that point. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 17:24, November 20, 2019 (EST)

If you wish to move it back, then by all means go ahead, but the fact remains that I'm still not sure how exactly it would cause confusion. I don't know, maybe we need a third opinion on this? Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 17:36, November 20, 2019 (EST)
Same can be said about the entities with "character" as an identifier for Mario Party Advance. "Character" always refers to specific unique entities, not an entire species. Also how are the rabbits in Odyssey characters? They don't even talk, aside from the Broodals and M. Broode. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:37, November 20, 2019 (EST)
Alright, Doc makes a good point. I guess I just wasn't thinking clearly (it's been a rough couple of days). And yeah, I told Toadette I missed the mark on the Odyssey ones. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:41, November 20, 2019 (EST)

Spiked Ball[edit]

Spiked Ball is most recently spelled "spiked ball," as can be seen at about 3:20:26 in this video. Shouldn't the article be renamed? Dwhitney (talk) 22:54, November 23, 2019 (EST)

Considering it's thrown by an Egg Pawn and not a Mario enemy, I'm going to say no, though the info can be added to the article. Unless there is something else that shows a more direct Mario connection. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:22, November 23, 2019 (EST)

Fun Fact[edit]

Yep. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:39, November 30, 2019 (EST)

About the Trivia...[edit]

Hey, Alex. About the trivia... what's wrong with it? It is interesting to note that Dark Pit debuted before Dark Samus as a playable character in the Smash series whereas Samus debuted before Pit in the same capacity. Unless that's a tidbit of info that doesn't count as trivia? 😕 MarioManiac1981 (talk) 18:23, December 2, 2019 (EST)

Toadette Link[edit]

No, it is Toadette's color. I'm skeptical about the "reference to Four Swords" thing. I think that they just happen to look similar because the characters share similar visually-appealing colors, not to mention how Purple Link was nixed from TFH. Also, despite what GMG said, this is purple and looks like purple. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:01, December 6, 2019 (EST)

No one liked Tri Force Heroes anyway. Okay, Purple Link's purple is darker than I remember it being. I'll wait and see what Gamermakerguy says first before moving it back, to avoid any potential edit war. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:04, December 6, 2019 (EST)
If I recall correctly, FSA had the worst sales of any of the "main series" Zelda games. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:11, December 7, 2019 (EST)
Maybe, but I wouldn't say forgettable. It's an enjoyable game, we break it out every now and then. Yeah, the GBA is a bit of a restriction, so maybe a Switch rerelease like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, that was set up similarly, would help. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:20, December 7, 2019 (EST)
Not "forgettable" so much as "already forgotten." Though to be fair, it was never really in the public eye to begin with, unlike TWW or TP. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just a hassle to play. Also, clashing styles and sprite filtering are ugly and make accurate external assemblies pretty much impossible, but that's a different issue entirely. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:31, December 7, 2019 (EST)
Not entirely sure what you mean by "clashing styles", I didn't have any problem with the art and moving between different themes. It all worked really well for me. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:37, December 7, 2019 (EST)
As a spriter, looking at different pixel sizes superimposed over each other without a trace of irony is pretty much the worst thing ever. ALttP, TWW, and whatever Metroid-esque style was going on with Frostare don't mesh well at all. Also, there's the same reason I despise Yoshi's Story's graphics, due to being distorted by in-engine factors to heck and back, which makes them blurry and impossible to reproduce. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:13, December 7, 2019 (EST)
I know some sprites are higher quality than the rest, namely the bosses. I don't remember any "superimposed" sprites, but I never really took a look at how sprites were handled internally, I just... played the game and it worked. That's all that mattered to me. Though I can tell how some things worked just by looking at them.
And I totally forgot the blue Giant Dodongo was a thing until I looked at the sprites on TSR just now and wow that thing looks weird O.o Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:46, December 7, 2019 (EST)
Yeah that one is pure laziness for the up-facing sprites. Poor editing from the down-facing ones and a lot of what we call banding and pillowshading. But notice how the pixels making up the Links are kinda blurry around the outline in-game? That's in-engine distortion as a poor attempt to make them look smooth. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:56, December 7, 2019 (EST)
Yeah, I saw your comment there XD I actually never noticed that. Even looking at the spritesheet on TSR I couldn't tell. They do look blurry when they are brought closer to the screen, but that's expected. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:59, December 7, 2019 (EST)
The TSR ones are the raw, pre-filter sprites. The ones in-game are the ones that are tweaked with. Also look at Yoshi's Story sheets and see their individual parts of varying sizes. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:03, December 7, 2019 (EST)
Yeah, I've seen the Yoshi's Story ones before. They're kind of odd, but since I've never played Yoshi's Story, I don't have a basis for comparison (and looking up videos on it is lame :P). Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:14, December 7, 2019 (EST)
I just don't like sprite filtering/resizing/distortion/rotating. It always looks off. It can make sense for storage reasons (like when they were just starting using it extensively in SMW2, which actually did it a lot better than most examples by thickening outlines), but more often than not it comes off as lazy. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:20, December 7, 2019 (EST)
As a sprite designer myself, I can say it works given certain situations. If it's applies throughout the entire game, then maybe it wouldn't look off, but it wouldn't look perfect, either. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:23, December 7, 2019 (EST)

Was mainly the immediately visible and the user's own contributions we are worried about. Punctuation and reference tags[edit]

LinkTheLefty and I appear to have another disagreement, this time about punctuation placed in reference tags. On Wikipedia, commas and periods are placed before reference tags, which is why I made it so in this edit. But LinkTheLefty reverted my edit twice. What do you admins prefer about this: Should commas and periods go before reference tags or after? Dwhitney (talk) 01:38, December 31, 2019 (EST)

As a matter of fact, as LTL has told me, the current rule is "first come first serve" for that, and the tragically-deceased admin Walkazo preferred the ref-before-punctuation way, so until an actual proposal on the matter is enacted, he's going to do that out of respect for her. At least, if I remember correctly. Either way, you should talk to him, not the admins. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:57, December 31, 2019 (EST)
The examples we have on MarioWiki:Citations show the reference before punctuation, which is what I prefer, because, as I understand it, the reference is part of the information within the sentence. But yeah, it doesn't really matter either way, it's less of a minor thing to correct than a typo. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:11, December 31, 2019 (EST)

Re:Super Mario Land 2 proposal[edit]

I mean, I'd be fine if you made another proposal in a few weeks. I hoped it'd get as much input as possible. Though, as mentioned on the satellite/Guruguri talk page, some of the current generic names might not even be entirely accurate - satellite and spook head probably should have been "sharp satellite" and "floating spook head", for instance. Super Mario Encyclopedia complicates it because Dark Horse took names like the former from us before we had the full quote, and in the interest of reducing confusion, I also supported the status quo option. I disagreed with using all generic names since, as I've said before, most of the lowercase names seem like they were most likely just quick descriptors that the writers came up on the spot rather than official Nintendo of America names. They're hardly if ever reused in an explicit context. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:45, January 15, 2020 (EST)

Dated protection[edit]

Hi, is it okay if Vivian is unprotected? The indefinite semi-protection was left over from vandalism in late 2015, and since there hasn't been any vandalism since, I feel that it might be okay to unprotect the article for that reason. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 14:11, January 15, 2020 (EST)

Normally, I would. However, Vivian could easily become a target for transphobic anons or transgenderism activists if left unprotected (which is one of the reasons it was protected in the first place), so I will talk this over with the others and see what happens. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:51, January 15, 2020 (EST)
Yeah, we decided to keep Vivian protected for that reason. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:48, January 15, 2020 (EST)
On top of that, the talk page was just recently subjected to a bout of vandalism not a few days ago - if anything, I would ask that the protection be extended there and applied to only allow confirmed users. --ExdeathIcon.png Lord G. matters. ExdeathIcon.png 21:04, January 15, 2020 (EST)
Wow, that vandalism even got Super Mario Bros. to edit again for the first time in two years.
Pretty much the entirety of the talk page is based on her gender, so protecting the talk page isn't going to solve anything as that's likely going to remain the focus even among auto-confirmed users. Even so, the random vandal was also the first vandal that talk page has had in four years, and the first edit in general in nearly half a year, so it would need more consistent activity before it gets protected (not that I want that to happen). Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:08, January 15, 2020 (EST)
...Okay, you do have a point. I guess then Lanky Kong would be more deserving of unprotection...? Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 23:03, January 15, 2020 (EST)
One of the points that was brought up was that there has been no vandalism because of the protection, it is serving its purpose. That said, after a few years, the vandals that were attacking the page have likely moved on, so idk. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:14, January 15, 2020 (EST)

Sentence structure[edit]

This phrase on Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia doesn't make sense to me: "...the description of [a Pipe Cannon] and as the rest of the Super Mario Land enemies use a corruption of the original names from Nintendo Power," particularly the phrase "the description of it and as the rest of the Super Mario Land enemies." Can you clarify what this is saying? Dwhitney (talk) 01:21, January 21, 2020 (EST)

I think what it means is the Encyclopedia used the names from Nintendo Power, but modified them a bit. afaik, Nintendo Power has only used "Pipe Cannon", but an alternate name for Bullet Biff is Gina, so SMBE put them together it seems. Which is odd, as Bullet Biff never once went under "Gina" on the wiki (it was created under Gira, but moved in 2011). The wiki never once called the blaster itself Gina Cannon since I put the Pipe Cannon name on the page in 2017. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 01:29, January 21, 2020 (EST)
Does the phrase "and as the rest of the Super Mario Land enemies" by any chance mean the SMBE uses the enemies' original names from Nintendo Power in their descriptions? I just want to word that phrase better. Dwhitney (talk) 01:37, January 21, 2020 (EST)
I don't have the book, and we don't have too many images of the SML descriptions (looks like just that one, actually), so I can't say for certain. You might want to check with someone with the book, I think LinkTheLefty (talk) and Mister Wu (talk) have it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 01:42, January 21, 2020 (EST)

Article titles[edit]

The book title New Super Mario Bros. Wii Intermediate / Advanced Piano Solos is italicized in the first paragraph, but the article title isn't. Shouldn't the article title be italicized? Dwhitney (talk) 23:16, January 26, 2020 (EST)

Yes. I fixed that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 01:09, January 27, 2020 (EST)

The phrase "Yoshi Egg" is in Mario Party 7, as can be seen at about 18:24 in this video. Though I'm not sure it's the most recent name, I wonder if the Yoshi's Egg article should be moved back to "Yoshi Egg." Dwhitney (talk) 22:10, April 5, 2020 (EDT)

I don't know why the citations show older games for the title we use, but "Yoshi's Egg" is the most recent as of Mario Kart Tour from what our article says. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:14, April 5, 2020 (EDT)

If I remember correctly, Obsessive Mario Fan requested a citation be added for this statement on the Mario page: "Officially, however, Nintendo producers have stated that Mario's biography is kept simple in order to make the character versatile and reusable in many different games and situations." Where do you think I might find a source for this? Dwhitney (talk) 17:23, January 30, 2020 (EST)

Well, it's pretty common Nintendo knowledge that Miyamoto designed Mario to be able to do pretty much anything. Where that was said, though, I don't remember. You can try the Iwata Asks about spin-off Mario titles, but that's the best that comes to mind. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:21, January 30, 2020 (EST)

Okay. Just so you know, the survey numbers for the answers aren't real, but they're possible. Here's the question: Name something Super Mario has to look out for on his adventures.

Here are the survey numbers for the answers:
#1: 75
#2: 14
#3: 8

Lava. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:22, February 13, 2020 (EST)
You're getting "warmer" (or, should I say, "hotter"). "Lava/poisoned water" was the board's third answer. Only one answer left. If you say the remaining answer, you'll clear the board. Dwhitney (talk) 23:57, February 13, 2020 (EST)
Alright, let's go with ... Running out of time. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:29, February 14, 2020 (EST)
That's a very good answer. And guess what? "Time limit" was the remaining answer. I'm surprised you got that one. You did it! You cleared the board. Well, as Mario would say, thank you so much for playing my game! Dwhitney (talk) 21:42, February 14, 2020 (EST)
Yay! Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:46, February 15, 2020 (EST)

Regarding mobile vs. immobile Bowser Statues[edit]

Thing is, they aren't the only example of an enemy that can be mobile or immobile. Ptooies and Nipper Plants in SMB3 had versions stuck in one place and ones that moved around, for example. That's the only functional difference between the statues as well. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:33, February 16, 2020 (EST)

Yeah, but those are still functionally the same enemy. The Gold Statues can damage the Brothers upon direct contact, the regular statues, afaik, do not. The regular statues fire lasers or fire breath, while the Gold Statues do not. My concern isn't that they are both Bowser statues, it's that they are both Bowser statues that do two different things. The ending to Super Mario World unfortunately does not include either in the enemy cast role, so that doesn't help any.
And I'm not entirely clear on your "Regardless, they each act like their originator." statement. Doesn't that just mean they both act how I described? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:08, February 17, 2020 (EST)
Don't gold Bowser Statues shoot fire too? I seem to remember them doing so? Regardless, again, the only source to differentiate them also differentiates Troopa colors. And like them, they are the same thing with a different palette applied. Heck, it's not even the game's "gold" palette, it's the Monty Mole beige. The same source is also what split out some of the different Chargin' Chucks with their even-more-different behavior. And we've never had those split. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:19, February 17, 2020 (EST)
...I honestly don't remember if they shoot fire. I'm just going off of what the wiki says right now. I'll see if I can quickly play through Super Mario World to find that out.
(Also, I think the Koopa Troopas should definitely be split, but that's a matter for another day.) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:23, February 17, 2020 (EST)
OK, well what about things like SML2 where the art shows a different type from the typical action? Or SMW2 where they don't act different at all? Or SMW, NSMB, and NSMBW which have Paratroopas that use the other colors' "typical" behavior? Or the audience members you can't see the shells? Or games like Mario's Time Machine NES where they're orange? Also, pretty sure SMW gray Bowser statues don't hurt to jump on. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:25, February 17, 2020 (EST)
I said the Koopa Troopa thing is a matter for another day.
Not sure about World. Currently trying to speed run my way to a level with them in it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:28, February 17, 2020 (EST)
Pretty sure it's only one path in Front Door. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:31, February 17, 2020 (EST)
...Yeah, had a feeling it'd be at the very end. I'll check tomorrow. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:34, February 17, 2020 (EST)
I just looked at a video of the SMA4 level and it had the gold ones never fire anything on-screen at least, but he happily lands on a gray one and has no suffering of any sort inflicted upon him. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:43, February 17, 2020 (EST)
Gonna interject a bit and confirm that in all my years of playing the GBA port, none of the gold ones have ever shot fire. Same for all footage I've seen of the base game, too. --ExdeathIcon.png Lord G. matters. ExdeathIcon.png 01:08, February 17, 2020 (EST)
Well, there ya go. I'm going to stand by my point, it's the differences that matter to me. The name origin may be sketchy, but it's better than "Bowser Statue (gold)". Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 01:50, February 17, 2020 (EST)
And again, I direct you to Chargin' Chuck, which had two projectile-launching versions that that guide split, yet we have merged. As an additional note, we have "obstacle" Bowser statues merged with identical "object" Bowser statues, particularly for, say, Super Mario Galaxy 2, so the "spits something or doesn't" distinction also doesn't hold up. And splitting those isn't the answer either, as they are how the developers chose to interpret the base "Bowser Statue" object. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:02, February 17, 2020 (EST)
Alright, I see your points. Any argument I'm thinking of for why Chargin' Chucks are merged can also be applied to Gold Bowser Statue. I don't know about supporting the merge yet, but I will at least remove my vote. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:22, February 17, 2020 (EST)

Who has more?[edit]

Wario is said to have a whole lot of coins. But considering how many coins Mario has collected throughout the games, I wonder: Who do you think has more coins? And what do you think Mario does with all his coins?
Though this is a different subject, I thought about bringing it up: I played as Wario in one grand prix in Mario Kart 7 last night and lost on the last track, but Wario said, "Oh, mama mia!" in such a way that I felt somewhat bad for him. That's odd since I don't really like him. Dwhitney (talk) 14:26, February 18, 2020 (EST)

Considering just the number of adventures alone, Mario would have more Coins, even without taking New Super Mario Bros. 2 into consideration. If you include spin-offs, it could go either way, as you can get a lot of Coins in Mario Party.
And yeah, natural to feel bad for someone losing. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:06, February 18, 2020 (EST)
What do you think Mario does with all his coins, besides buying certain things in Mario Party games? Dwhitney (talk) 17:00, February 18, 2020 (EST)

Do you mind?[edit]

Hey Alex, i know if i'm being off-topic compared to this wiki, but i would like to arrange a heart to heart talk with you, because it's important. When i was active on the Smash Wiki and its Discord server, i was talking with you about Kirby's n-air before being blocked on the wiki and expelled from the server. I want to say i'm sorry for this mess, but if you want to know the truth, here's the data for the clean hit: it deals 10% base damage, with 35 units of base knockback and 117 units of knockback scaling. I was trying to tell you that before i was blocked. If you wanted to say that it couln't KO middleweights before 200% even at the ledge, this is true for the previous games, as well the later active hitboxes, but not for the clean hit in Ultimate, as afromentioned. Do you ever use the SSBU Calculator? Because i calculated the KO percent on Mario on the ledge of FD, and it KOs at 110%, the same percent of back aerial by using the data i mentioned above. I also used it to calculate the percent on which most of Kirby's KO moves start to KO middleweights at this position. I want to have a heart to heart talk with you, and i hope you can understand what i mean and if you can forgive me for this mess. Recently, i was roaming around the rules and i found out a few stuff: first, they say that everyone is valuable, and if this is true, i am too, and second, in the administrators page i also found something that say: administrators are not kings, which means that administrators are at the top, but it doesn't mean they know everything and that they're always right. You are not an administrator but you still have a large role in the community, and since i was talking to you when this mess happened, i felt that i had to apologize to you. It seems that when i say my opinion, i get attacked because no one wants to hear me. Everyone has their opinions, i respect them and i certanly don't try to force them, but it doesn't mean that you guys have to make all this mess because of one stupid conversation on Discord, and you guys said that here were allowed subjective talks, but when i say something, i get attacked for stating my opinion. This is bad faith, and also rude, especially since i only started to use an account for a wiki a week ago, while contributing as anonymous for a few months. Do you honestly think that it's that easy to work in a wiki? I know because i already experienced that. Also, the last edit i did to Kirby's SSBU page before i was blocked was describing Kirby's cons as well as the startup of his moves in Ultimate, so it wasn't sugarcoating, as i was also better describing Kirby's troubles in dealing with pressure due to his aerials not being fit for this due to their startup, like Pit's. If you're still mad at me, then i won't blame you, but, please, i want to clear all this mess, because this has been going for far too long. I just hope that you can understand me and forgive me. 06:09, February 23, 2020 (EST)

You trying to help give information was not the issue, it was the way you were acting. It wasn't just Kirby, you and a group of people (or maybe they were all you, idk) were constantly changing information that made calculations inaccurate and conflicted with what was actually in the data of the game. And when your information was removed, you kept adding it back. This is known as "edit warring" and should never happen. And then you continued editing around your block, which is ban evasion, and gets you into even more trouble.
As you have said before, you don't have SSB4 or SSBU. This means all of your calculations are theoretical and have no ground to stand on. You can assume Mario gets KO'd from Final Destination's ledge with Kirby's Neutral Air at 110%, but it's also possible that it does not. You don't know, you can't test this.
"Administrators are not kings" is true, but they are highly respected members and are supposed to be listened to when they tell you to do something. Going against this has consequences.
You can have opinions, no one is saying you can't. But when your "opinions" are based on subjective theoreticals going against experienced players, then they mean nothing. Those aren't opinions, that's speculation, which can be wrong.
"Do you honestly think that it's that easy to work in a wiki?" Well, I've been editing for six years now, and have been a staff member for three, so, yes, I do think it is pretty easy. Coding may take a while to learn, but it is not hard to follow the rules and suggestions of a community. How long you've been editing a wiki doesn't matter, it's how you behave.
I, and the rest of Smash Wiki, will possibly forgive you once you have the games yourself and are capable of testing your calculations before trying to push them as fact. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:36, February 23, 2020 (EST)

As i said, the SSBU Calculator is the official way to calculate KO percents. Do you ever use it? I could buy the game and the Nintendo Switch if i want to, but i can't, it's too expnsive. Since i'm Italian, it would cost somethning like 500 euros to get both the game and the console. besides, as i said, the SSBU Calculator is the official way to calculate KO percents. Do you ever use it? 10:40, February 23, 2020 (EST)

I don't, because I'm not too knowledgeable on the technical data, and don't have a need to use it. I learn who dies at what percent from what character through experience. I have mentioned that to you before, I am not the right person to talk to about this. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:42, February 23, 2020 (EST)

Remember Dracorex? When i talked to him about the SSBU Calculator, he said that it could be useful. The truth is that KO percentages are heavily dependent on positioning, but the most accepted ones come from the ledge of Final Destination and on middleweights, like Mario, so using him as the one who takes the attack will give an idea on around which percentages will the move KO. I even updated the moveset tection with the percentage in which each move starts KOing. If you have noticed that some multihits only count the final hit, you can subtract the damage from all the multihits to the percentage. This calculator doesn't really count DI, but if you reach the blastline with enough knockback when or before the hitstun ends, it's an unavoidable KO. 10:48, February 23, 2020 (EST)

Also, i could buy the game and the console if i want, but i can't afford them right now, they cost too much. This is why i'm using technical data to take account on something about the moveset. 10:51, February 23, 2020 (EST)

Okay, clearing something up here. I don't use the Smash Calculator, but I do know how it was built. It uses datamined information from the game, so I don't have any doubt that your theories have some merit behind them. But you have shown other issues on Smash Wiki that do not relate to the calculator: general misconduct, lack of understanding basic knowledge about certain characters, and continuing to talk to users who want nothing more to do with this. And even with the accurate calculations, you have no way of actually testing them. You're a scientist without a lab.
This conversation has nothing to do with Mario Wiki. I have you blocked on Discord because you kept trying to keep an ended conversation going. I have more important things I need to be doing, so please follow rule 5 I have at the top of my talk page and drop this discussion until you actually have work to show. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:57, February 23, 2020 (EST)

Message for you[edit]

Hey Alex. If you don't mind, would you like to talk to me on the Smash Wiki Discord server? It's for a really important matter that has been nagging me for quite a while. My account is Vittorio Fedele and my tag is #2773. I'll leave you for now, but it's important and i have to talk to someone about it. Talk to me when you feel ready, then we'll get this over with, OK?

No. Don't use my talk page for this again. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 09:26, March 6, 2020 (EST)

Rule 5 says that if i have a question about another wiki or i want to attract your attention i should notify you on the talk page, so i'm not disrespecting this rule. I'm sorry if i'm bothering you, but this is important, and i can't talk about it with anyone else. I just want to have a civil conversation with someone. 10:48, March 6, 2020 (EST)

That means if you need my help or other attention I need to be involved in on another wiki, you can alert me here. Not to discuss blocks for another wiki or Discord. Leave Smash Wiki business to Smash Wiki, or I will block you here again. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:53, March 6, 2020 (EST)

This is not about discussing blocks, it's about the situation and what i feel about it. Who can i talk with if not with you? Both Dracorex and Serpent King don't want to talk to me, so i'm leaving them alone at the moment. I can't find anyone to talk with about the situation, which is still a mess. For quite a while, i'm feeling insecure about myself and i started to have doubts and thinking about stop talking in a group chat. 10:57, March 6, 2020 (EST)

The situation regarding Kirby and how you feel about him in Ultimate, despite not having any real experience with the game, which caused you to add improper information to the wiki and playing victim in the Discord when you were confronted about it, which led to your blocks in both locations, and continuing to message people who want nothing more to do with it after being blocked, correct? Yeah, no, that discussion is long over. Good bye. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:03, March 6, 2020 (EST)

RE:Bowser Statue Proposal[edit]

Then how about if I break it down? There were six voters in that proposal. Three voted in favor of option 2, and four voted in favor of option 3. 3/6 is exactly half, but 4/6 is about 66.67%; therefore option 3 passes. Removing comments[edit]

That's not the case. Per MarioWiki:Courtesy: "The only comments you are allowed to remove are flames and acts of vandalism, and the only times you can alter another user's comment is to fix broken coding or replace a custom signature with {} (talk) on pages which enforce the no-signature policy. Altering the actual content of a comment, even if you're just fixing typos, is a warnable offense. This is not limited to mainspace: even on your own talk page, you shouldn't delete a conversation. It is also inappropriate to go back and alter or remove your own comments from talk pages; if you no longer stand by something you said earlier, slash it out using or , but be sure to leave it up for the record. In proposals and FA nominations, if no one has "per"d your vote or addressed it in the comments, you may remove it; however, if someone has referred to your vote, you must slash it out and ensure that it is no longer counted in the tally by affixing it to the preceding line through use of
." The only time when unpopular comments can be removed are on Proposals and FA nominations. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 12:48, February 27, 2020 (EST)

That is in reference to another user's comment. You are freely able to remove your own should someone have not responded and you figured out what you wanted on your own or if you no longer stand by it. In other words, it's a form of self redaction. If someone has responded, then yeah, the comment needs to stay, because it is now relevant to something. You can choose to leave the comment there or strike through it, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:52, February 27, 2020 (EST)

Castle Key proposal[edit]

Hi, do you have a good idea on how to close this three-option proposal? Even though there are four votes each for the first two options, option 2 has three first-choice votes and one second-choice vote, while option 2 has four first-choice votes. With seven voters total, this would theoretically place the majority at 4/7 (more than half), and the minority at 3/7 (less than half). Thoughts? Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 11:22, March 1, 2020 (EST)

"Second option" really just means you would prefer another option, but are still okay with this possible outcome. I don't think it determines vote priority. I would consider this a tie. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:57, March 1, 2020 (EST)

Pighead comic panel[edit]

Could you restore that? Using the full page bloats that article's size needlessly. There's merit in keeping individual panels in addition to the full pages. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:08, March 1, 2020 (EST)

Yeah, I can agree with that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:19, March 1, 2020 (EST)

There's an image on a website and the link is called [1] and for some reason, the website suffered an internal error and it's currently down. The image is a booklet that has 3 games in it: Mario Undoukai, Super Mario Kart Dokidoki Race and Super Mario's Rock-Paper-Scissors. Is there any way we can reverse this error? I don't know if the website is coming back and I hope there's a way to fix the site early and get it back up. Lord Falafel (talk) 11:37, March 2, 2020 (EST)

Not Alex but by using the Wayback Machine I was able to find an old archive from December 31st, 2018. Don't know if that helps though. MikhailMCraft (talkcontribs) 11:42, March 2, 2020 (EST)
I see Undoukai in that archive, but not the others. I have no way of controlling what happens with this site, but it's likely the owners know about it and are working on a fix. I don't know when that will be and how long the site has been down, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:47, March 2, 2020 (EST)

I messed up on my Vietnamese category and accidentally broke the babel template[edit]

Hey Alex, I need your help. It has been almost two years since I created a category for a language. I lost my touch. I messed up the babel template by accident when adding my language. White Lightning George Jones 00:31, March 3, 2020 (EST)

Hmm, looks like it's missing a fourth variant, as in "vi-4". It looks fine to me otherwise, so I'm not sure what you mean. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:34, March 3, 2020 (EST)
I fixed it. Now what about the category? White Lightning George Jones 00:41, March 3, 2020 (EST)
I fixed that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:43, March 3, 2020 (EST)

Broken discussion page[edit]

I think the discussion page on list of Mario Kart Wii trading cards is broken. I can't see "split" or "merge" when I hit discussion, just "discuss" on the top of the list page. Lord Falafel (talk) 16:04, March 3, 2020 (EST)

Because that's not how wikis work. Splitting and merging pages are done through basic editing, not through a page button. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:40, March 3, 2020 (EST)

I mean none of the discussions of that page show up in the discussion board. They only show up in the bar on the top of the list. Lord Falafel (talk) 16:45, March 3, 2020 (EST)

No discussion has been made yet, so the page has not created. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:50, March 3, 2020 (EST)

Then how come discussions appear as a wiki page when I hit the word discuss on the bar on top that says it's been suggested that the list and the gallery for the cards be merged? Also, I posted my discussion (named merge) in the discussion board after I hit the bottom button to add discussions and it's not showing up on the discussion board. Only when I hit the word discuss on the suggestion bar. Lord Falafel (talk) 02:37, March 4, 2020 (EST)

The link in the template was wrong, so you posted on the Super Mario Galaxy Trading Cards talk page instead. I fixed the link, so if you want to move your comment to the proper location, you can. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:49, March 4, 2020 (EST)

Heat-proof characters?[edit]

Ya notice in a lot of Mario games that Mario, Luigi, Wario, Yoshi, and certain other characters don't seem to get hot when they're in lava levels (with Mario and Luigi wearing long-sleeved shirts), unlike Link in The Legend of Zelda games? Do you suppose these Mario characters are heat-proof, or how do you think they can tolerate the heat? Dwhitney (talk) 02:56, March 7, 2020 (EST)

And yet Mario sweats in Super Mario Sunshine and Link is fine in The Wind Waker's Dragon Roost Cavern. In both of those games, they have slightly different clothing than usual, so the only possible explanation is magic clothing. Link has that in Ocarina of Time after all. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:50, March 7, 2020 (EST)
Yoshi (and other Yoshis) normally doesn't wear clothes, so how do you think he can tolerate the heat? Dwhitney (talk) 12:42, March 7, 2020 (EST)
Yoshis are pretty versatile characters. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:34, March 7, 2020 (EST)

Lylat Wiki[edit]

Could you help me? I am trying to establish an account on the Lylat Wiki, also powered by MediaWiki, but I keep getting a fatal error every time. Garrus (talk) 22:24, March 7, 2020 (EST)

Bubble Pop[edit]

The Bubble Pop page says the player can pop one if they touch it six times. I found that to be false: In one Yoshi's Story level (Mecha Castle, I believe), I popped a Bubble Pop with a question mark inside containing a Special Heart, and it took more than six touches to pop it. I'd like to correct that content, but I don't know exactly how many times the player needs to touch a Bubble Pop to pop it (I think it's about 20). You think you can find someone to help verify the info? Dwhitney (talk) 23:17, March 10, 2020 (EDT)

I think the TheDarkStar (talk) and Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) has played Yoshi's Story. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:59, March 11, 2020 (EDT)

MGTT Image[edit]

I don't think it's possible to get better results without increasing the native resolution of the game. I replaced the image but I don't think it looks much better. CastleResearch (talk) 11:46, March 16, 2020 (EDT)

It... doesn't look much better, tbh. But it is possible to get screenshots like File:MGTT Gameplay.png. You also broke the aboutfile template. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:52, March 16, 2020 (EDT)

I was fixing that as we speak. CastleResearch (talk) 11:55, March 16, 2020 (EDT)

Language support[edit]

Hello. Our babel states that Romanian is currently supported on this website, as I requested for it back when I joined. However, as you can see on my user page, the language userbox doesn't recognise it, saying that "we don't support this language yet". What is the problem? -- KOOPA CON CARNE 17:11, March 16, 2020 (EDT)

The problem is Romanian has not been added to Template:BBL-UBX. You are welcome to add it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:16, March 16, 2020 (EDT)

How come the Discord servers of this wiki don't recognize my account? Yet i have one, and i'm part of the Italian Mario wiki Discord server too, but it never had this problem.Vittorio Fedele (talk) 10:22, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

Your account is in the Mario Wiki Discord server. You have already joined. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:24, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

What i mean is that it won't allow me to send messages. Not here, and not even in the 1-UP World Discord server, and i joined in both of them. It's like they don't recognize my address.Vittorio Fedele (talk) 10:42, March 21, 2020 (EDT) 10:31, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

You aren't banned or anything, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Try logging out and then logging back in. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:33, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

I already tried, it doesn't work. I checked out and i started to think that they don't recognize my address.Vittorio Fedele (talk) 10:42, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

You can try leaving the server and then coming back in. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell ya. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:48, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

That didn't work either. I can't even talk to you on Discord.Vittorio Fedele (talk)

I don't know what to tell you, then. You aren't blocked from the Discord, clearly, so you might want to try looking for help by talking to Discord support. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:54, March 21, 2020 (EDT)
Hm, have you claimed and verified your account? You may have gotten an email some time ago about verifying your account. You can probably get this email to show up again through an option in your account settings. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:56, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

It showed up on my mobile phone this morning and i checked it out, but nothing changed. This is getting ridiculous: first no one wants to deal with me, and now this. Vittorio Fedele (talk)

Try getting a hold of Discord support, like through their Twitter for example. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:27, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

I don't even use Twitter, and i can't find anything about support.Vittorio Fedele (talk) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:22, March 21, 2020 (EDT)

I looked and tried again, it doesn't work like this either. There is no nickname or password issues either, but if i try to receive the e-mail again, it doesn't come. There's gotta be something wrong, but i don't understand. Vittorio Fedele (talk) 10:20, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

Double-check your email, make sure it's the right one. A simple typo can ruin a lot. If that doesn't work, then I'm sorry, I can't help any further with this. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:25, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

I managed to fix the issue, i skipped something in my email address. Now i can be in those two servers, but i still can't message you.Vittorio Fedele (talk) 10:32, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

Yeah, I still have you personally blocked for a reason. I don't see me going back on that any time soon. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:34, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

And that was last month. Now something has become sensitive even for me. Is this infinite? Vittorio Fedele (talk) 10:36, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

I'll remove it when I feel like it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 10:39, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

RE:Nintendo Friends Object Hunt SM3DW image[edit]

Yeah, this is what differentiates it from the original; it's also the case with the Captain Toad and Yoshi's Island pictures. But I'm curious whether it's okay to keep the Animal Crossing ones or remove them on grounds that they are not Mario-related. Same with Play Nintendo quizzes that don't only focus on Mario (such as this one)--should they be trimmed to only have Mario content? Personally, I think they benefit from the same type of coverage the Smash Bros. series gets, but I would like to know your point of view :) -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:59, March 23, 2020 (EDT)

Wart's status[edit]

Wart's face is red in the ending of All Stars, but I think its supposed to be his cheeks flushing in a daze because of the beating rather then actually being dead. Beaten up Wart even manages to throw the key in the Doki Doki Panic version of the ending. In general, I'd say keep the Wart is dead speculation off, much like the Tatanga is dead speculation. Delsait (talk) 20:00, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

If you want to add that, you can. I haven't beaten Super Mario Bros. 2 (in any format), so I'm not entirely sure what to say about it. But what was written there before sounded weird. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:03, March 25, 2020 (EDT)
I think that being a dream regardless it's wholly open to interpretation, though some of the "just off screen" cartoon effects in the ending imply the Subcons were beating him up further iirc. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:15, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

Hi, may I ask if you can please check the writing quality of this section I wrote? It juggles with so many ideas that I fear the phrasing may come across as confusing. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 14:56, March 28, 2020 (EDT)

Wow, the sort of material people make... I understood it just fine, no issues I can think of. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:00, March 28, 2020 (EDT)
That's what happens when you eat magic beans I guess... Thank you for your review! -- KOOPA CON CARNE 16:27, March 29, 2020 (EDT)

TCRF link error[edit]

So, I just noticed yesterday while revisiting List of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate quotes, any internal links to The Cutting Room Floor ( isn't working. Did someone deleted it? ---Raffina Higashikata, March 30, 2020

I already talked to Porplemontage about it, I noticed myself today. It's been fixed, try refreshing the page ^^ Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:25, March 30, 2020 (EDT)

A common joke among early-mid elementary schoolers (or at least, when I was, which was about the time of the game's release) was to ask "Why are you under there?" to try and get them to say "under where?" The deflection to this is to say "Because if I wasn't under there, I'd be over there." Regardless, I'd be absolutely shocked if during the entire translation process it never crossed anyone's mind that the name the picked was a homophone for "underwear." It's just too obvious to miss. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:44, April 9, 2020 (EDT)

How about we add a "may" to the statement and keep it so it doesn't look as though we're skirting around the obvious play on words, but acknowledging is as a possibility? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:21, April 9, 2020 (EDT)
Ehn, I didn't realize Reign Storm was a pun on "rainstorm" for years, so... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:30, April 9, 2020 (EDT)
A play on an existing word or phrase doesn't necessarily need to be pertinent. There's at least a few Mario Party minigames or WarioWare microgames with a similar situation, though specifics escape me. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:39, April 9, 2020 (EDT)

I apologize for doing this. I randomly added that content for no particular reason. I have deleted all content on my user page that was considered spam. I will make sure not to do this again. Greenpianta (talk) 20:43, April 9, 2020 (EDT)

Using picture or photo files[edit]

Question on how I am supposed to get photos file names if I want to put them on another page. How do I copy the file off of the original picture page?

If you want to use an already existing file on another page, all you need is the file name. For example, . You can find more information at Help:Image. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:25, April 20, 2020 (EDT)

Yah but where do you copy the file name. Or do I have to type it in manually rather than copy past the file name.

You can type it manually or copy the file name. Whatever works for you. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:21, April 21, 2020 (EDT)

Can you fix the broken links here? Wynn Liaw

"European"? You mean just "Europe". Also, it's not inaccurate. Saying "British English" is biased against the rest of Europe (and Australia), and those games most definitely are known by those names in all of Europe.

Is this web site reliable?[edit]

Is this website reliable? Wynn Liaw 11:21, May 2, 2020 (EDT)

That's where I get my music from. But as a reference source, probably not. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:28, May 2, 2020 (EDT)

Split template[edit]

Can you confirm if this edit was correct? It seems to me that if a certain split can only be done through a proposal, there shouldn't be a template suggesting it if no one's bothered to start one. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 21:06, May 2, 2020 (EDT)

The point of the template is to suggest some discussion gets started, through proposal or talk discussion. It means someone thinks a split needs to happen and wants to discuss it (though they should actually start the discussion instead of just placing the template and leaving it there). Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:09, May 2, 2020 (EDT)

Bowser Sprite[edit]

Which one should we keep, the one breathing fire or the one not breathing fire? Like this, I think that the one breathing fire can be deleted. What is your opinion? Wynn Liaw 01:47, May 4, 2020 (EDT)

I don't have a reason to remove one. One is his moving animation, the other is a pieced together animation of him breathing fire. The fire breath one could go on Fire Breath, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 09:40, May 4, 2020 (EDT)

Non-Mario music from Super Smash Bros.[edit]

Can I upload non-Mario music from Super Smash Bros.? Wynn Liaw 11:00, May 4, 2020 (EDT)

Is there a reason to? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:01, May 4, 2020 (EDT)
What do you mean? Wynn Liaw 11:03, May 4, 2020 (EDT)
Never mind, didn't now we had List of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate music until now (or I forgot about it). We could take music from the game, Mario or otherwise, but they'd have to be 30 second samples. Looks like some links on that page are broken... Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:06, May 4, 2020 (EDT)
That means I can upload non-Mario music from Smash games? Wynn Liaw 11:10, May 4, 2020 (EDT)
I don't see why not. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:11, May 4, 2020 (EDT)

That Bowser Jr. quote is apparently legit, but was actually on the site for Mario Power Tennis according to this. Unfortunately I can't access it with the Wayback Machine so I can't verify it. Either way, doesn't seem to be connected to Mario Kart Wii. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 13:20, May 5, 2020 (EDT)

My first thought was Prima, but as far as I know, they don't do quotes for the characters in Mario Kart Wii. Either way, yeah, didn't belong there. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:40, May 5, 2020 (EDT)

SMM2 sections[edit]

I know that the situation's somewhat different due to being level designers, but given we generally frown upon the use of "New Super Mario Bros. series" and "Super Mario Galaxy series" as headers, should it not be the same for "Super Mario Maker series?" SMM2 has the story mode anyways, so noting what levels in there particular elements appear would be worth its own section. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:19, May 5, 2020 (EDT)

The New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy series generally have different stuff all around, even the game play is changed slightly between the games. If it's something only Super Mario Maker 2 has, like the Builder Mario power-up or the specific story, then it's something that goes in its own section because there's nothing before it to compare it to. But if it's something that is in all three games with little to no changes, it makes more sense to me to use "Super Mario Maker series" rather than a clunky "Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2" header or "Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" with "Super Mario Maker 2" split into its own section. For a different example of merged games into a single header, see Mushroom. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:25, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
Yes, but "Mario Kart" is an actual full series, not a subseries. Either way, we should probably stop the "slash-reissue" thing unless specific changes to the relevant subject have been made. Either way, given SMM didn't have multiple themes and one style, putting object types that vary with those under one header when the specific variances are mentioned is outright misleading. Furthermore a lot of the NSMBU info for enemies amounts to "acts the same way as before," yet we still have them split. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:41, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
The similar acting returning enemies in NSMB could probably be merged, too, but one thing at a time.
"Series" or "subseries" doesn't really make a difference in terms of general coverage. "Super Mario Maker" is a series. But yes to the "slash-reissue" thing, that is the point I was making.
But the first SMM had different themes and objects that changed with the style, so what do you mean by that? Super Mario Maker 2 may have more themes and objects to work with, but in that case, the extra content would just have "Super Mario Maker 2" as the only Super Mario Maker section on the page.
EDIT: Well, JC reverted, but it's a case-by-case thing anyway imo. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:50, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
(EDIT CONFLICT) ._. What I am saying is that, for instance, listing the specific designs unique to forest/desert/snow/etc or SM3DW style under a SMM banner is misleading for the simple reason that SMM2 isn't a reissue, it's a sequel. As for series/subseries, it does make a difference, due to that the only subseries we have pages for per our coverage are the Super Mario Land (only considered a subseries now due to retroactively(?) being absorbed by the main Super Mario series) and Yoshi's Island (due to the first game being part of said subseries), and even in those cases we never list it as the series header for a history subsection on a page. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:58, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
Your points make sense. JC reverted because of the 3D World information, which I just took as an expansion of what already existed. The "Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" still looks clunky (and so does anything else with a "/" in the title), but I understand the setup, and it's better than just making a new "Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" section when all it will say is "This acts that same as previously."
Maybe I can make up some proposal for this, for sections to be merged if the subject is in the same series and is no different. I don't think there's a writing guideline for it, it's just based on whoever is writing the article, hence the discrepancy between the NSMBU enemies and articles like Mushroom. TLDR on Metal Mario[edit]

Hey uh, about Metal Mario...
Meta Crystal in Smash 64 is a kooky Metal Switch Cavern
the Melee Trophy describes both at once and lists SM64
Ultimate's spirit uses character's artwork in same array as where Mario's forms are
So if Smash separated them to begin with, they seem alarmingly insistent they're interchangeable.
Anyways, any inconsistencies with other characters using it I'd say would work like how the Cat Mario article lists Cat Peach's MK8 appearance. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:08, May 8, 2020 (EDT)

I do recognize that there are cross-appearances, specifically in Smash Bros. But even not counting Smash Bros., there is enough information in other spin-off titles that can keep Metal Mario's character article relevant. I can't say the same for Cat Peach, who has only appeared in MK8/MK8DX. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:29, May 8, 2020 (EDT)
"Can" does not mean "should," though. We could split all boss and enemy appearances of Wigglers, or boss and non-boss-character appearances of Birdo into two articles, but it wouldn't necessarily be the right thing to do. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:18, May 8, 2020 (EDT)
I suppose it's a case-by-case thing. Proposal time? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:14, May 8, 2020 (EDT)
Not until semester's fully over. 'Sides, I have quite the backlog on that count. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:22, May 8, 2020 (EDT)

Would you be willing to restore the audio files used in Shokora's audio sample project? I understand they were deleted for being "unused PIs", though I disagree with that since they weren't being used as personal images, weren't actually unused, and had potential mainspace use, not to mention it seems to go against the spirit of sandbox projects in general to me. I know Trig said he would keep the audio files stored elsewhere himself, but given the current situation that's not going to be very useful, and I think it would be better to have them hosted here and would make it much easier for someone to potentially pick the project up later. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Bowser and Bowser Jr.[edit]

Besides his evildoing and his teaching his son to be like him, do you think Bowser is a good parent? Dwhitney (talk) 13:11, May 17, 2020 (EDT)

Besides the two points that makes Bowser's parenting what it is, yeah I think he does alright :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:15, May 17, 2020 (EDT)

How old do you think Bowser Jr. is? My guess is that he's around six to nine years old, since, if I remember correctly, as quoted in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, he does chores and has homework. Not to mention, he plays videogames, as seen in Nintendo's Nintendo Switch Parental Controls video. Dwhitney (talk) 15:18, May 28, 2020 (EDT)

I always figured he'd be around 9 or 10. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:27, May 28, 2020 (EDT)

Names in other languages from canceled localizations[edit]

Although iQue's localization of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is canceled, I found a playthrough of it. Is it ok to add the official names to "Names in other languages" sections of the Wiki, with ? (More people in China play a fan translation of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga whose names are unofficial.) --Dine2017 (talk) 21:50, May 17, 2020 (EDT)

If the names are official, then yeah, they'd totally work. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:55, May 17, 2020 (EDT)
Thanks, although Talk:iQue says that localization was leaked. I'll defer until we have more community input. --Dine2017 (talk) 02:53, May 18, 2020 (EDT)
I didn't see where else this was was being discussed so I'll add my own input here. Personally, since the localization was canceled, I'd say not to add them. The reason is because we don't know if the text is finalized or if the names will ever be reused in released capacity. Or, at the very least, it shouldn't be added to the wiki with the pretense that it made a final release - like for example, translations ought to be marked as being from a canceled localization. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:07, May 21, 2020 (EDT)
The example reference Dine provided says the translation was canceled. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:09, May 21, 2020 (EDT)

You have enlightened me.[edit]

Amongst my minor skirmish with Grandet Omate, your reasoning for undoing my trivia edit has enlightened me to the truth: MMKB is an unreliable source. They have absolutely no evidence regarding the origins of Cossack's name. Thus, there was no reason for me to cite them. From now on, I shall never refer to Dr. Cossack with the middle name "Sergeyevich" merely because of that incomprehensible "wiki." Thank you for revealing to me the error. - This previously unsigned comment was added by AwdryFan1997. One of these days, I'll get ahold of this...

Why do you think Yoshi can't eat Boos in SM64DS, even though they can be defeated (by any other playable character) like almost any other enemy? Dwhitney (talk) 23:12, June 13, 2020 (EDT)

I don't think Yoshi can turn ethereal beings into eggs. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:19, June 13, 2020 (EDT)

Remember when you told me to read each section on the Yoshi article and see what I can improve? I did that, but I didn't remove the "rewrite" template because I'm not sure the article meets the writing standards, one of them being not to fuse gameplay and story. What do you think? Dwhitney (talk) 15:20, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

Looks like that was a few months ago. But yeah, a page like Yoshi's needs a lot of work to maintain, so if you think it still needs improvements, leaving the rewrite template up isn't an issue. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:09, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
The thing is that I don't know whether or not Yoshi's article still needs improvement. Dwhitney (talk)

Yoshi's design is based on the one of Tamagon in the game Devil World, according to this source: "A Brief History of... Yoshi". Official Nintendo Magazine. Nintendo (47): 81–83. 2012. ISSN 1836-4276. Could you find a way to add this information to the Yoshi article?

Also, what must I type to sign my comments on talk pages? Dwhitney (talk)

I don't have that magazine, so I'm not sure. Could be archived on the internet somewhere.

Unused stamps in NES Remix 2[edit]

If the list of NES Remix 2 stamps is accurate, there are only 100 stamps used in the game. However, twelve more were made that for whatever reason are never used, some of which are Mario-related. I have them ready to upload, but now I'm wondering if there's even a place for them since I'm not sure where they are considered as far as coverage. Would a new section on the list of NES Remix 2 stamps work? LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:32, July 11, 2020 (EDT)

Oh wow, that's pretty neat! Doesn't look like there's a good place on the Stamp page for them right now, but they can go under a "Pre-release and unused content" section on the NES Remix 2 page. I don't know if we have a gallery of Stamps somewhere. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:38, July 11, 2020 (EDT)

Noki Variation Naming Question[edit]

A couple of days ago I collection several screenshots of the many different varieties of Noki NPCs from Mario Sunshine with the intent of putting them into the Gallery of the Noki Page, but have come to worry about giving the files a good and practical name. All the screenshots are based on the Noki's gender, Shell type, and Shell color. I've uploaded a few low quality files from before I got Sunshine, but wasn't too confident in the naming of their files. Any advice?

Link from Wind Waker[edit]

That's technically true, but at the same time, that's not exactly how the infoboxes delineate things? After all, regular Link isn't separated depending on which incarnation he is in the infobox, and the same goes for Ganondorf and Zelda. Yes, this particular rendition of Toon Link debuted in The Wind Waker due to certain characteristics unique to that version of the character, as well as trophies and tips telling us directly, but part of that is because The Wind Waker started development earlier and was even released before Four Swords in Japan, yet Four Swords did in fact release first overall. I feel like the introductory paragraph did a much better job explaining that before this IP's edits. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:16, July 18, 2020 (EDT)

Alright, I see your points. I was thinking about those edits from the IP you linked and noticed they weren't there anymore, but I didn't realize it was the same IP that changed them. But if Four Swords released after Wind Waker in Japan, but before Wind Waker in other areas, which one do we credit? Which one came first? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:24, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
Well I think the previous wording was fine since we just go with whatever released first period; for Smash example, Byleth's first appearance is listed as Fire Emblem Heroes Ver. 3.7.0 despite that obviously being as a tie-in to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or for regional example, we don't chronologically swap WarioWare: Twisted! and WarioWare: Touched! depending on which was localized in English first. There is the argument that "Toon" Link specifically refers to the cel-shading of The Wind Waker, but that isn't strictly true because HD replaced the original cel-shading technique and Smash actually doesn't retain it for the character either, so the logical conclusion is that it must be referring to the overall character design. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:00, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
That makes sense. ZeldaWiki tells me the earliest date between them is Four Swords English release of December 2, 2002, beating Japanese Wind Waker at December 13, 2002. So I guess Four Swords comes first either way. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:10, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
That's right. Though I'd be wary of even taking release dates at face value from a wiki known for ceaselessly citing certain books that stole borrowed information rather shamelessly from online sources including themselves, but I digress =p LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:22, July 18, 2020 (EDT)

Uploading a image[edit]

Hi, I'm Thebestsilver, I've been visiting this wiki for a long time but signed up today.

I found an image that did not have the white background removed and I took care of that, but its not possible to replace an image, so I wanted to ask how I should do it, or if I have to upload it separately and ask to delete the previous one.

The file is:

Hammer Mario SMB3.png

Thanks in advance, reply when you can, bye!

--Thebestsilver (talk) 13:20, August 24, 2020 (EDT)

You need to be autoconfirmed, which means you must have made 10 edits amd have waited one week. --KnightDarkNightKnight 13:24, August 24, 2020 (EDT)
Otherwise, you can upload that file and mark the file mentioned above for deletion, with delete. --KnightDarkNightKnight 13:26, August 24, 2020 (EDT)
 • Okay, thanks! I will wait to reach the requirements and thus replace with the removed background --Thebestsilver (talk) 13:30, August 24, 2020 (EDT)

Status Help[edit]

So I recently created a status page, which is basically copied off yours and I tried adding two 25px images, but I want them to be staight, and not crooked. Can you help please? --KnightDarkNightKnight 19:43, August 25, 2020 (EDT)

Are you sure that converting Shiny to a disambiguation page was a good idea? I really think it's easier for anyone who searches "Shiny" to be brought to the search function instead. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 15:51, September 15, 2020 (EDT)

I know the point of the proposal was to delete it, but considering how many things use "Shiny" in the series, I don't think there's anything proper to redirect it to. Bringing people to the search page instead seems counterproductive when this is an actual term used by the games.
The same can apply to the other pages that were deleted, but they aren't used as much and I wasn't sure where to redirect them to. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:15, September 15, 2020 (EDT)

Sketchy source[edit]

Not too long ago a user uploaded this image for one of the Mario references pages. My issue with it is that the source is listed as a website where you can watch cartoons for free online, which aside from general sketchiness, those types of websites are often filled with intrusive (if not downright malicious) ads, not to mention the potential for the URL to be abandoned once the copyright police inevitably find them leaving them open to be recycled for worse things. Initially I was just going to remove the source, but given that it is the source for the image, I thought it would be better to get an admin's thoughts on it. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. What for? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:22, October 5, 2020 (EDT)
Since there was already an attempt to create an article out if it, and I'd imagine that new or inexperienced users may create an article out of it, like with the various meme redirects which are already protected. It's no different here; this happens to be a rather well-known glitch in the Super Mario 64 speedrunning community. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 18:38, October 5, 2020 (EDT)
That is one attempt, and "Big Long Jump" isn't even the right name. It's also not a meme, it's a legitimate name for a glitch exploit. If problems continue to arise, then they will be protected. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:40, October 5, 2020 (EDT)

RE: GameCube[edit]

It's still relevant to the Wii U page because the GameCube was the previous title holder of being the worst-selling Nintendo home console. It lost against the PlayStation 2 and Xbox but not the Dreamcast because Sega killed it off early due to not having enough money to compete. It held the title for being the worst-selling Nintendo home console and the least successful Nintendo home console until the Wii U surpassed it. The comparison between the GameCube and Wii U is valid and worth mentioning because they were both flops and they both lost to their main competition that is the PS2 and Xbox for GameCube, and the PS4 and Xbox One for Wii U. -- 16:38, October 6, 2020 (EDT)

 • Sure, the PS2 and Xbox winning over GameCube doesn't mean much to the Wii U. But PS4 and Xbox One winning over Wii U does. But stiil, at the end of the day the GameCube and Wii U were both flops for Nintendo during their time and they were the darkest times for Nintendo as they lost the sixth gen and eight gen with the GameCube and Wii U respectively and retrospectively. The Wii was a massive success for Nintendo but the Wii U went back to being a failure and the fact that it couldn't sell as well as its predeccessor did and that it tanked, even harder than the GameCube which as I mentioned was Nintendo's least successful home console previously are the factors that matter more. I still maintain that it is a valid and relevant comparison to mention both respectively, retrospectively, retroactively, and historically, even on the Wii U article. They were both Nintendo consoles and that's what matters more along with the factors that I mentioned regardless of the eras they were in. -- 18:18, October 6, 2020 (EDT)

Thanks, I noticed I was having some trouble with that. Absolutely understandable. I feel the best solution for this, since there are a few distinguishable characters such as Dune Buddy and the shell flautist who make lots of appearance throughout various episodes, I'm planning on adding a "miscellaneous" section to both the Noki and Pianta pages to highlight those characters. If I have time, I'll go back to the episodes and note their appearances in a table. I also have all of the quotes for Dune Buddy, which can be added to the quotes page. Thanks for the help! Classic Swoop vs. Swampire[edit]

While I understand Swampires are based on the SMW design of Swoops, it's more likely the Green Swoops are simply just a nod to their classic design in the halloween art from their debut appearance and more of a coincidence from the Swampires. --KingGeoshiKoopshi64 (talk) 01:41, October 27, 2020 (EDT)

Explain to me how Life Size merchandise is a "Still a valid reference"[edit]

I literally do not get it. Please explain it, HOW is the "life size" merchandise a "Valid Reference" of any kind for Mario's height. I'm absolutely BEYOND frustrated as heck at the moment, please explain it, explain your thinking, because I don't think you ever explained it to me, and I am just super fricking frustrated, because I keep trying to explain time after time again that "Life Size" in context with that kind of merchandise, does NOT mean the character's height, it just means it's big and life like, what is, however, a valid source of information, is this and this source... Just... Please... explain it to me... I've already explained so many times why it isn't a valid reference, why is it to you?

I'd like to apologize for my behavior[edit]

Hi, um, I'd like to apologize for my behavior. I really don't want to act that way, it's just something I need to control, however, the personal issues are, and always were besides the point, I just have a habit of rambling my personal feelings and such, but yes, I think the interview should be documented. (And I still think the statue should not) And the reason why I still don't think the statue should be documented is because no one knows whether or not it's meant to be a "Canon Mario" height or if they just mean it's big size, and I think it is pretty inappropriate for the Mario wiki to be using a source that isn't 100% confirmed if that makes sense, since the Mario wiki is a place people will look for and expect 100% confirmed information (It's why I had Larry height debates with people, despite me being the Larry Koopa fan, over Larry obviously being shorter than Mario, and they claimed Larry was the same size as Princess Peach and it took me showing them many screenshots and T-posed models, but it's because people expected this wiki, which had that false information on it, to have 100% confirmed and absolutely correct information) but to be honest, reading the interviews made me believe they just mean big sized, because the interviews imply that the New Donk citizens are normal sized people, and as such, they say to use New Donk City to get an idea of how Mario's abilities are measured. (Which can also be used to measure Mario's own height) Meanwhile Smash Bros doesn't count as a canon source for obvious reasons (but can still be documented) and the cartoons especially don't count as a canon source (but can still be documented, and even then, Mario looks more on the four foot side in those two) and I guess Mario Golf is Mario Golf, I haven't checked the heights there myself, but that source could stay since it is better than the statue. And I think Mario and Sonic better explains New Donk City, lol --GoldyFish110 (talk) 17:57, November 6, 2020 (EST)GoldyFish110

American English[edit]

LinkTheLefty and I appear to have yet another disagreement: the placement of commas and periods in quotation marks. Doc von Shmeltwick told me this wiki uses American English, and in that language, commas and periods go inside quotation marks, as stated under "Do commas and periods go inside or outside quotation marks?" on this website. As for this link and this link, both of which LinkTheLefty referred to, the wiki doesn't seem to say anything about the placement of commas and periods in quotation marks. On the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia page, LinkTheLefty reverted my edit about punctuation placement in quotation marks, after which Doc von Shmeltwick reverted his edit, after which Archivist Toadette reverted Doc's edit. LinkTheLefty said maybe a proposal on the matter could be made. Do you have any suggestions or solutions on the matter? Dwhitney (talk) 22:06, November 12, 2020 (EST)

Yeah, that came up for me as well a while back. I don't remember what was decided, but my personal stance is if the quote has punctuation in it, then the punctuation it used is placed in the quotation marks where appropriate, otherwise it is placed outside them. For examples, if we had a quote of a game going I love this cake!, then we would use "I love this cake!" with no punctuation immediately afterward.
For the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia example, the character's name isn't "Kuromame," with the comma as part of it, so we'd write "Kuromame" with punctuation immediately following the quotation. "Kuromame", rather than "Kuromame," at least how I think of it. That's clearly not what's happening on the page, so idk. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:14, November 12, 2020 (EST)
Just an FYI, I changed it back twice. Doc tried to provide an example in a reversion edit summary as "proof", but I looked at the site and, just as your deductions point out, only says something about actual quotes and not quoted names. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 22:19, November 12, 2020 (EST)
...Maybe an actual discussion should take place first before constantly changing the article content. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:21, November 12, 2020 (EST)
The site literally says "In American English, periods and commas are ALWAYS on the inside of quotation marks." (Their emphasis.) No further context is needed because that statement right there covers all possible bases. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:47, November 12, 2020 (EST)
The site also supports Grammarly, which has been a mess to work with on wikis because it doesn't understand how fiction works.
It doesn't make much sense to me to do that, but a quote is a quote, I guess. "Kuromame" is what's being quoted rather than "Kuromame," so it just looks wrong to me. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:04, November 12, 2020 (EST)
To be honest with you, I find it strange to put commas and periods inside certain quoted words and phrases (and have found it strange for many years). But as the saying goes, rules are rules. Dwhitney (talk) 17:32, November 16, 2020 (EST)

Switch still supporting Miis 3D All-Stars.[edit]

Why did you revert my edit mentioning the Switch still supporting Miis in the Changes to Super Mario Galaxy section on 3D All-Stars's page? It is true that the Switch still supports Miis as they can still be created and used in games and some Switch games can use them like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.-- 12:07, November 18, 2020 (EST)

1) You're edit warring. Article content should not be constantly changing. Edit summaries are not the place for discussions.
2) Yes, the Switch uses Miis, but that doesn't mean 3D All-Stars has to. The Galaxy port just simply doesn't use Miis anymore. We don't need to say the Switch uses Miis, that's already on the Nintendo Switch article. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:11, November 18, 2020 (EST)
Actually, I think it's worth a brief mention (something like "Despite the Switch having Mii support, [...]"), but nothing more than that. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 12:27, November 18, 2020 (EST)
The thing is that Galaxy is recompiled to run on the Switch but things are still emulated from the Wii. The Nvidia Shield version was fully emulated. Galaxy supported Miis on the original Wii release which can be played on both Wii and Wii U. The Switch still has Mii support as previously mentioned. It's still worth a mention as it is one of the differentiating factors between the original Wii version and the Switch version in 3D All-Stars.-- 12:40, November 18, 2020 (EST)
It's still mentioned that you can't use Miis in 3D All-Stars. What isn't mentioned (and doesn't need to be, imo) is that the Switch as a console has Miis on it. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 12:46, November 18, 2020 (EST)
I strongly disagree with you. This is still a factual piece of information worth noting. The point still stands that it is still worth briefly mentioning that the Switch still supports Miis because Galaxy used Miis in the original Wii release and the Switch version missing it is a big one despite the Switch's Mii support. I think Archivist Toadette's suggestion is the best way to go about and I agree with them.-- 13:26, November 18, 2020 (EST)
> It's still mentioned that you can't use Miis in 3D All-Stars.
Doing a search on the 3D All-Stars page and finding only the one instance of the word "Mii", being this dispute. But yeah, we don't need to say the Switch uses Miis, that's on the Switch's article. We only need to say the port doesn't utilize them. The point is still being made. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:17, November 18, 2020 (EST)
I am still on the side with Archivist Toadette that we can give it a brief mention according to their suggestion on how it can be implemented. We can simply reword it like this: "Despite the Switch having Mii support, it is no longer possible to use Miis as a save icon due to the game being based on the Chinese NVIDIA Shield TV version (which lacked Mii support entirely due to that system not using Miis) rather than the original Wii release." Notice that I modified it to include an explanation for why the game is lacking Mii support from the original Wii release while the Switch still uses Miis. The reason for it lacking Mii support is due to to it being based on the NVIDIA Shield TV version of the game rather than the original Wii release which obviously supported Miis. I think it is still a good way to go about it.-- 01:20, November 19, 2020 (EST)
"The game seems to be based on the Nvidia Shield version released in China."
It's already in the "Super Mario Galaxy" changes section. Further information is on the Super Mario Galaxy page, but I'm noticing it doesn't make note of the Miis being absent on the file select, or even noting the file select itself. It would go somewhere on there instead. Probably should be a Nvidia Shield changes section on there somewhere, idk. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 01:36, November 19, 2020 (EST)

In addition, the Tweet was one of the most popular non-YouTube hoax spreaders, thus making it, in my opinion, notable, though again not every internet post needs to be referenced. This is just an example of the hoax being spread outside of YouTube, and still gaining traction. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 12:40, December 22, 2020 (EST)

The rumors and memes and whatever are odd cases, as they can be easily spread by anyone. New thing comes out, people talk about it. I think it's best to just focus on what the creator has done and the impact it caused, rather than spotlighting specific other people that have no relation to the creator. Of course it's going to be spread beyond the initial posting site, that's how the internet works. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:31, December 22, 2020 (EST)

Names for the Mario Kart Wii Staff Credit snapshots[edit]

Hi, 1JUST1 messaged me on my talk page to rename the snapshots for the Mario Kart Wii Staff credits. But because i'm not an autoconfirmed user yet so i'm unable to rename the images. So i was wondering if you can do it for me. MarioKartFan4863927 17:22, December 29, 2020 (EST)

I'm running kind of short on time at the moment, so I'm not able to get to it right now, but I can probably do it later today. But yeah, avoid overly long complicated names, makes it easier for everyone, yourself included. :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:24, December 29, 2020 (EST)

Ok, That's fine. MarioKartFan4863927 17:29, December 29, 2020 (EST)

...There's a lot of images here... Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:10, December 29, 2020 (EST)

Ok, If you want to you can delete some what you think is unnecessary for both either the demo movie or the staff credits. MarioKartFan4863927 03:23, December 30, 2020 (EST)

Yeah, I'm looking at the list and trying to figure out how to handle it. Holidays made me lose focus here, so I wasn't paying attention to the upload names. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:26, December 29, 2020 (EST)

So maybe you could do a rough start on them to check what needs removing or is staying on the wiki. MarioKartFan4863927 03:36, December 30, 2020 (EST)

Did the Mario Kart Wii ones. I'll see if I can do the others later, but take a look at the naming scheme I used for future reference. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:24, December 29, 2020 (EST)

Ok, So the others would be the demo movies for Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and the end credits for Mario Kart: Super Circuit which i've just started doing snapshots for. MarioKartFan4863927 04:34, December 30, 2020 (EST)

MKWii Demo Movie[edit]

Hi, can i do a snapshot of the Wii logo and the Wii Wheel in the MKWii Demo Movie to upload to this wiki if it's necessary?. MarioKartFan4863927 03:54, December 30, 2020 (EST)

Yeah, that's fine. But wait until I'm done with the file moving to avoid any edit conflicts. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:55, December 29, 2020 (EST)

Item infobox proposal[edit]

Just out of curiosity, considering the proposal on Template talk:Item-infobox was slightly redone after a suggestion I made, does your original vote still stand? Swallow's profile picture shown in NEO: The World Ends With You Swallow Rindo Kanade

I think I'd prefer removing the parameter entirely, since in-game descriptions change from game-to-game. But I have no issue with using in-game descriptions either if that's what others decide on. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:22, January 5, 2021 (EST)

Beta Track Order for Mario Kart 64[edit]

Hi, I have found something on The Cutting Room Floor to do with the order of the tracks in Mario Kart 64. ( MarioKartFan4863927 22:31, January 6, 2021 (EST)

Toad's Turpike as the final race hahaha Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:45, January 6, 2021 (EST)

Beta differences for Mario Kart Wii[edit]

Hi again, I have found something on the Mario Kart Wii prerelease page on The Cutting Room Floor regarding the course banners. ( MarioKartFan4863927 14:45, January 7, 2021 (EST)

Yeah, Mario Kart has a lot of unused stuff. I even covered a few of the games for The 'Shroom. If you're looking to add the information, our pre-release pages are not protected. We also tend to point to TCRF on them, anyway. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:04, January 7, 2021 (EST)

Ok, I'll do the prerelease screenshots that i found on The Cutting Room Floor whilst you add the information to do with the course banners. MarioKartFan4863927 17:20, January 7, 2021 (EST)

Uh, okay? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:21, January 7, 2021 (EST)

Unofficial SVGs[edit]

I found unofficial SVGs: File:Yoshi-tongue.svg, File:Banana - 2D art.svg and File:EmptyBlock - 2D art.svg. They look different from the PNGs they replace: File:Yoshi-tongue.png, File:Banana - 2D art.png and File:EmptyBlock - 2D art.png. Should the SVGs be deleted? Wynn Liaw 03:50, January 9, 2021 (EST)

Yeah, admins were talking about that. Looks like they've bee deleted. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:52, January 9, 2021 (EST)

Ground Pounds category[edit]

Would the Ground Pounds category you deleted fit after the remaining Ground Pound articles are merged out? (Ground Pound Jump and Homing Ground Pound) B700465189a9 (talk) 11:14, January 13, 2021 (EST)

Well, since the Ground Pound Jump is a jump that'd just be 3 articles. The Dives and Kicks might deserve a separate category as well, any thoughts on those? B700465189a9 (talk) 11:23, January 13, 2021 (EST)
We should see what pages get made first before we decide if they need a category. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:26, January 13, 2021 (EST)

Something about accounts[edit]

After an account is blocked, is it okay to create a new one? Be sure to tell about it.

No. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:37, January 15, 2021 (EST)

Well, what to do? Something should occasionally happen.

You can submit an appeal through the email on MarioWiki:Staff noticeboard. Making a new account while you have an already banned account, as well as editing anonymously while your account is banned, counts as ban evasion. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:42, January 15, 2021 (EST)

Well, that is something, but what about uploading images?

You need an account for that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:57, January 15, 2021 (EST)

Well, why not create an account? It definitely is free to do, if you believe for so!

And what do you mean "no"? Making a new account, like you said, counts as a ban evasion.

Also, like you said, how could anyone submit an appeal the admin noticeboard? And what about making a new account? Please be nice, and be sure to tell.

Oh, here is something: is it okay to edit anonymously? Also, please be nice.

If you are banned, you should not make a new account. I honestly can't tell if you're asking me this because you're curious or if you're trying to get around a ban, but whatever. You would submit an appeal through the Gmail account linked to on the admin noticeboard. Editing anonymously is fine otherwise, doing so because you are banned is not. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:08, January 15, 2021 (EST)

Thank you. the way, how would anyone to submit an appeal through the admin noticeboard (again)?

Oh...well...anyway, thanks for saying that editing anonymously is fine!

No, he meant that it is okay to edit anonymously while not blocked. Editing anonymously while blocked will get you banned, as it is ban evasion.
Not that I know if you're actually evading a ban or not.

Last Chance[edit]

I'm sorry for the trouble, but I need to fix the problem on my userpage because there is something wrong here. But, please don't block me after the last edit. Thank you. User:DumbellaVanderquack/sig 15:11, January 19, 2021 (EDT)

Mario Kart 64 Soundtrack[edit]

Hi again, I've just come to tell you something regarding the soundtrack for Mario Kart 64 since i've listened to a remaster of Mario Kart 64's soundtrack on YouTube by Aqua MIDI ( According to Aqua MIDI, The soundtrack for Mario Kart 64 used 2 Roland synthesizers (SC-88 and the JV-1080). MarioKartFan4863927 19:20, January 29, 2021 (EST)

Cool, but I'm not much of a music expert, so idk what to do with that info :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:54, January 31, 2021 (EST)

Maybe you could put it in the soundtrack or development section on the Mario Kart 64 page or if that isn't a good idea, You could ask somebody to help in order to figure out where to put this information. MarioKartFan4863927 16:08, February 4, 2021 (EST)

If it's something you understand, you could add it. I don't understand what this means, so I probably shouldn't be the one to add it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:28, February 4, 2021 (EST)

I've done it but if anybody tries to take it down, can you please explain to them why that it's there for me. MarioKartFan4863927 17:11, February 4, 2021 (EST)

I'll try. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:16, February 4, 2021 (EST)

John Leguizamo talk page[edit]

I feel I need to explain myself a bit here. A while back I admitidly had a habit of removing things from talk pages which I thought was forum talk, and was put back by a staff member saying otherwise. So I asked Mario jc to clear it up for me a bit, and he responded by saying this. So since then I have been careful about what to remove from talk pages. As for that comment earlier, I couldn't think of how that could go towards the article since that actor's role in Ice Age was already mentioned and subjective stuff like that isn't allowed in articles anyway, so that's why I saw it as forum talk. Keyblade Master (talk) 19:13, January 31, 2021 (EST)

It didn't read like forum talk to me, but no worries. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:54, January 31, 2021 (EST)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't MetaKnightmare666's failed appeal be archived? After all, there was an appeal in the first archive page that was archived despite being filed in violation of the rule that admin/patroller warnings are unappealable. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 23:33, February 1, 2021 (EST)

idk I'll ask about it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 01:47, February 2, 2021 (EST)

Continuing "conversation" on the Amy Rose voice actress situation[edit]

Of course, the main reason I reverted the anonymous user's edit is because they didn't link to physical evidence that the character's respective voice actress retired (in this case, Amy Rose); do you have the lead in terms of the Twitter account for said voice actress. This also gives me an idea in terms of adding a respective section for the Amy Rose article itself later today (not just for Amy, but the other Sonic girl articles featured here). --M. C. - Profile | Talk Page 13:26, February 3, 2021 (EST) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:29, February 3, 2021 (EST)
Perfect; thanks for the lead. That said, this news is really tragic, but I'll leave that for somewhere else. I'll check on that Amy Rose article again later. --M. C. - Profile | Talk Page 13:36, February 3, 2021 (EST)

Help about images[edit]

I saw your message on my User talk page. I have been trying to find a way to add my images in a page but I don't understand how to do that.. Could you help me please?

Also thank you for the advice! I will refresh the cache of the image that I have reuploaded and see the changes of it.

Have a nice day.

I saw your message today. I will try to add my images to the Princess Daisy Gallery and refresh the cache of this image you talked about as soon as possible: Daisy 2d officially.png

Thanks for helping me and have a nice day!

Edit: I noticed that the images were added to Princess Daisy's Gallery and I also noticed that you restored the 2d Daisy dancing shaded art. I didn't noticed the shadow at the bottom of her dress.

I will be more careful with the content that I will submit to the wiki the next time---

Regarding the DK Summit page[edit]

Hi, I just want to ask you something regarding the DK Summit page is on the information on the page saying that the course has a different name in PAL regions which is true, but there's one problem written here.

(known as DK's Snowboard Cross in the Japanese and PAL version). The problem is that it says Japanese on it despite that on the Japanese name of the course, They's not DK's it's instead just DK.

MarioKartFan4863927 01:07, February 7, 2021 (EST)

Fixed. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:12, February 6, 2021 (EST)

Thanks, Maybe you or me could put in trivia that the course's name in Japan didn't originally have a Apostrophe and letter s in the course's name before they added them in for PAL regions. MarioKartFan4863927 01:18, February 7, 2021 (EST)

That information is already on the page as part of the Names in other languages section. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:23, February 6, 2021 (EST)

Before i go, I'm i allow to add the pictures of the early versions of DK Pass, Waluigi Pinball, Nintendo DS, GCN Block City (only known just as Block City in MKDS), GCN Mario Circuit, GCN Pipe Plaza (only known just as Pipe Plaza in MKDS) and the MKDS version of Wario Stadium to their course pages since in a way are connected to those courses. MarioKartFan4863927 01:30, February 7, 2021 (EST)

I'd leave them on the pre-release page. They fit better there. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:35, February 6, 2021 (EST)

But one more thing, The Spanish (under NOA and NOE) and French (under NOA) has the same name has North America which is still DK Summit. and plus i'm i allow to correct the rest like you did with this one on my own. MarioKartFan4863927 01:42, February 7, 2021 (EST)

I don't understand what you're looking to correct there. It's all the same already. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:49, February 6, 2021 (EST)

But the problem is the Spanish one (under Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe) and the French one (under Nintendo of America) still has the same name as the American version of Mario Kart Wii for this course which is used as the name for the page (DK Summit). MarioKartFan4863927 01:56, February 7, 2021 (EST)

Is one of those incorrect or something...? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:05, February 6, 2021 (EST)

See this ( MarioKartFan4863927 02:08, February 7, 2021 (EST)

Yes, that's what I've been looking at. But I don't understand what the problem is. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:12, February 6, 2021 (EST)

The name has no changes or differences despite that it is one of the English names of the course. MarioKartFan4863927 11:52, February 7, 2021 (EST)

That happens a lot. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:22, February 7, 2021 (EST)

Mario Kart 64 Soundtrack pages (Mario Kart 64 Original Soundtrack and Mario Kart 64 Race Tracks)[edit]

Hi, I need to tell you something regarding 2 soundtrack pages for Mario Kart 64 is Mario Kart 64 Original Soundtrack and Mario Kart 64 Race Tracks. The soundtracks i've just mentioned have the same music tracks except that the Japanese one has a full audio track of sound effects and all the character voices clips got split into separate tracks. Mostly they are pretty much the same but with slightly different track listing and character voices between the two versions. Really both of these need to be combined into 1 page. MarioKartFan4863927 14:37, February 10, 2021 (EST)

Because they were released as separate pieces of media and, as you say, have slightly different content, we cover them separately. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:33, February 10, 2021 (EST)

Donkey Kong Country Trilogy[edit]

Hi, I need to tell you something regarding the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy CD set page is that it's a set containing already released soundtrack CDs such as DK Jamz. So it doesn't make any sense to have a track list it would make sense to have a list of the CDs which came with it.MarioKartFan4863927 11:58, February 11, 2021 (EST)

What do you mean "doesn't make any sense to have a track list"? That is exactly what these pages are for. Images of the CDs would be cool, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:58, February 11, 2021 (EST)

Here's the link to it on VGMDB (, This should give you an rough idea to where i'm coming from by looking at the pictures of the discs that came with the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy CD set in North America. MarioKartFan4863927 19:19, February 11, 2021 (EST)

Oh, the discs are pretty bland aside from the third one. Bummer. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:26, February 11, 2021 (EST)

You can see that i'm right about this. So is it possible that you could do a page for the soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country 3 whilst i fix the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy CD set page possibly tomorrow to replace the track list to a list of the soundtracks that came with Donkey Kong Country Trilogy such as DK Jamz (The soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country). MarioKartFan4863927 21:10, February 11, 2021 (EST)

I think what you are looking for is List of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! media, which does not exist. It's not the same thing as the CD, as it would be just a list of what songs are in the game rather than what songs are on the CD.
As for DK Jamz, that already has its own page, and the media within it is different. So everything looks fine to me. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:10, February 11, 2021 (EST)

Here's the links for the CD set and the soundtracks listed here again to help you.

Need help with anything?[edit]

So I decided I would be playing all the roleplaying games again (SMRPG, M+L and PM), maybe excluding The Origami King (I don't own it yet, maybe I'll get it inbetween some games). So I wanted to ask if there's anything to help out with regarding these games. I would do all I can. If you have anything to do for me, maybe send a list of things you want to be made/finished. You can also differentiate between the originals and remakes for SS and BIS. Anyways, I will gladly wait for your response. Mid188 (talk) 12:50, February 27, 2021 (EST)

Unused objects articles[edit]

Hey! Long time, no see. I just wanted to ask you if it is appropriate to create an article about an unused power-up? I would consider putting it in the unused content page associated with the game it was supposed to be in, turns out it does not exist... My signature. 12:44, February 28, 2021 (EST)

What is the item and the game it is for? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:04, February 28, 2021 (EST)
It is the Giga Mushroom for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. My signature. 13:05, February 28, 2021 (EST)
It would work best at Super_Mario_3D_World_+_Bowser's_Fury#Pre-release_and_unused_content. If this item is also the Mega Mushroom, a Bowser's Fury section can also be made there, though the name implies it was probably a placeholder for the Giga Bell. VGM Sound Sources spreadsheet[edit]

Impressive. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:54, March 1, 2021 (EST)

I'm glad your happy to see this, So we better start putting the info on the pages of all the Mario games listed on the spreadsheet such as the Mario Kart ones. MarioKartFan4863927 17:13, March 1, 2021 (EST)

Uh, if you can find a place for that, then I guess so? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:48, March 2, 2021 (EST)

Maybe the soundtrack (Media on some pages) or development or trivia sections?. MarioKartFan4863927 11:55, March 2, 2021 (EST)

Soundtrack/media pages would probably work, but you should discuss this with the community rather than just me first for further input. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:24, March 2, 2021 (EST)

I'll leave it to you to deal with if that's alright with you. MarioKartFan4863927 18:55, March 2, 2021 (EST)

I know i could do the Mario Kart games whilst you do the rest or maybe ask somebody to help you aswell. MarioKartFan4863927 21:34, March 3, 2021 (EST)

You're gonna have to learn how to do one of these at some point. Make a new section somewhere, but it's a pretty unique request, so I'm not sure where it'd go. MarioWiki Talk:Main Page? Category:Articles that need more media? If you do find a place, place talk at the top of the section and then specify what you are looking for. I don't know quite what you're looking for and how you want it implemented, and I only barely understand what I'm looking at. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:47, March 3, 2021 (EST)

It's info for the game soundtracks. But though i'm gonna leave you to do that because i don't want do the wrong thing. MarioKartFan4863927 21:59, March 3, 2021 (EST)

Need help with signature[edit]

Dino Piranha Planet[edit]

Fair point about not visiting it after mission 1. Just wanted to point out the different model. In the GDC 07 Trailer, at 0:05 top right, 0:23 top right, 0:38 top left and 0:42 top left, there's a pinkish planet where Dino Piranha's usually is. At 0:23 you can even see the egg. I've got an eye for small details like that.

Unfortunately, I can't see the trailer for myself. Two of the referenced links are dead, and the third requires the now-defunct Flash. But perhaps your wording just confused me a little. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:30, March 25, 2021 (EDT)

So should the Wii Luigi Circuit and Mario Circuit pages have the information updated to include that a part of the course's music was used for the Title, Demo Movie, Options and Award Ceremony themes and also for the Block Plaza battle course. MarioKartFan4863927 18:28, April 2, 2021 (EST)

Sure. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:29, April 2, 2021 (EDT)

I'll leave you to do that. MarioKartFan4863927 18:35, April 2, 2021 (EST)

Why? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:36, April 2, 2021 (EDT)

Because i want to get on with other things. MarioKartFan4863927 18:38, April 2, 2021 (EST)

Ain't that a total mood. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:38, April 2, 2021 (EDT)

Well besides that, The reason why that i'm leaving you to do it is because i don't want to do the wrong thing when i'm editing the pages. MarioKartFan4863927 18:42, April 2, 2021 (EST)

Why don't you try giving it a go? Everyone has to start somewhere. Any mistakes you make can be corrected, either by you or someone else. Nothing to worry about as long as you're not intentionally trying to hurt the wiki. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:48, April 2, 2021 (EDT)

Mario Kart Wii End Credits / Mario Kart 8 Twisted Mansion mashup[edit]

Hi, once again. I've found a mashup for the End credits theme from Mario Kart Wii and also for Twisted Mansion from Mario Kart 8.

MKWii End Credits mashup:

Twisted Mansion mashup:

It's not all that uncommon that composers will pull from previous games for inspiration. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:58, April 4, 2021 (EDT)

Something obvious[edit]

Okay, when editing anonymously when an account is blocked, just experiencing a ban evasion. (Sorry if it happens (in case).
The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

wut Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:56, April 4, 2021 (EDT)

Hey, again, that must have counted as a ban evasion.

Your IP address does not match that of another user's, so I don't know if you are or not. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:18, April 4, 2021 (EDT)

Well, whatever works. And also, just remembering - just thought editing anonymously was fine when you said so. Just checking with you. Sorry about that (in case, once again).

If you have an account and it's not blocked, editing anonymously is fine. Though we do recommend having an account. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:36, April 4, 2021 (EDT)

Well, just had SuperMarioKid blocked before, and just thought editing anonymously was fine (at least).

Sorry in case (once again).

Ah, okay. Well, yes, this would be ban evasion, and you are going to be blocked for it. If you want to continue editing, please submit an appeal through the gmail linked at MarioWiki:Staff noticeboard. However, because of your current ban evasion, the appeal will not be accepted. Feel free to do so after a year or so and you have more wiki experience elsewhere. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 23:53, April 4, 2021 (EDT)

So, uh...[edit]

I'm glad that I can add the Mario Tennis trophy celebrations. But what sections should I put it in/between? Artwork of Yoshi in Mario Party 6 (also used in Mario Party 7 and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games)YoshiPrower542TailsMediumAni.gif 15:23, April 6, 2021 (EDT)

Sorry for the late response, but it looks like you got it figured out. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:31, April 6, 2021 (EDT)

Closed captions[edit]

Apple Tv’s closed captions are the only ones with capitalization as Netflix's does not. I advise you to revert all of the edits as those are the official capitalizations and spelling, no matter how stupid they may be. Also, a model sheet for "The Ten Koopmandments" has it spelled "Koopa-Troopa". Grandet Omate (talk) 13:38, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

You're showing Apple TV's captions having no capitalization though??? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:39, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Most of the time they do have capitalizations, but sometimes they do not. All that I put is how it is in the captions. Grandet Omate (talk) 13:42, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Captions vary by publisher, as you've noted yourself just now. They are unreliable, usually not maintained by the actual publishers of the content. And one instance of "Koopa-Troopa" would be noted on Koopa Troopa's page, but won't really fit elsewhere. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:43, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
There are only two closed captions, so the capitalizations do not vary. It says the captions are Canadian, just like WildBrain is, the publisher. Grandet Omate (talk) 13:46, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
As you said, they differ between Apple and Netflix, and are usually provided on any other service. Also, WildBrain may be the current host of the show, but it is not the publisher. That goes to DiC, I believe. WildBrain is also pretty unreliable, as the content is pretty low quality, even using information from outside sources, including us. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:50, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Apparently, Netflix DOES actually have capitalization, starting from "The Pied Koopa" onwards in production order. The spellings and capitalization are still the same between the two, though. That makes these the only official sources (aside from the writers themselves). Grandet Omate (talk) 13:55, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Just because they currently host the show doesn't mean they had anything to do with producing it. And I guess Netflix themselves couldn't decide on their own reliability :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:57, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
These are the ONLY official sources though. We do want be official and true, and if we do not follow these captions then we are lying. (Even if we have to accept Mario throwing Koopa for Aruba). Grandet Omate (talk) 14:01, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
I wouldn't even call them official. I don't know the full extent of how closed captioning works, but I know they're certainly not handled by anyone who actually worked on the cartoons. My official DVDs have captions, maybe I'll look them over one day once I have a disk drive I can use. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:03, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
The are official! Everything official counts. Nobody can deny that. They did’nt plagiarize anything. Please stop denying revert the edits. 14:12, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
You're gonna have to show me Apple, Netflix, and WildBrain got these names from Nintendo or DiC and not just made them up or took them from someone else. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:14, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
They didn’t take them from anywhere else (you can’t find Dealing Dalbert anywhere else) and it doesn’t matter if they made them up or not, it’s not like there is a rule on this wiki about that. I just want this argument to end. Grandet Omate (talk) 14:17, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Well, Dealin' Delbert has been on this wiki since 2007. If you actually try to use "Dealing Dalbert" here, it sounds like more of a mishearing or self-correction. As far as a rule goes, there actually kind of is? Nothing really set in stone, but if the source material is questionable, such as what happened with the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, we wait for more information. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:20, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
It really is not questionable and they do actually say "Dalbert". We already have all the information we need. If there is no rule, there these should be accepted, not contested. Grandet Omate (talk) 14:25, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Just looked back at the show, on WildBrain itself even. He himself drops the G, being Dealin' Delbert. WildBrain has no closed captions for this episode, at least on YouTube, but the auto-generated ones use "DeLand Albert", which is uh no. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:32, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
Doesn’t matter what it sounds like, it’s not the official spelling. Also, YouRube does not have any closed captions. This shouldn’t even be a discussion, official things are official, and this is neither questionable nor plagiarized. Grandet Omate (talk) 14:37, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

re closed caption: The relation between WildBrain and video streaming platforms like Netflix is the same one Nintendo has with retaillers like Gamespot: meaning the owner of the property sells the product to the retailler/streaming website, and they may supply other material (like artwork, press releases, etc) to help the client market the product. However, that doesn't mean everything the client does with the product is now official; for instance, Gamespot has in the past created fake placeholder boxarts for Mario games using edited official artwork. Gamestop may be an authorized (or "official") retailler of Mario products but it doesn't make those placeholder boxarts by association as they were made entirely by Gamespot without inputs from the creators of the source material.

In that respect, closed captions fall in the same category as placeholder retailler-made boxarts. Closed captions are made by people with no relation to the source material or access to behind-the-scenes material like script, and who are just writing down what they hear by ear. They are not an acceptable source for spellings.

re Wildbrain: As WildBrain is the current owner of the DiC library, theu would normally be considered the current authority on the DiC Mario stuff... except their material has been blatantly amateurish, including straight up copy-and-pasting our episode summaries for their video description. As such I would be fine with excluding them as a source of information for cartoon-related stuff like we did with the english encyclopedia, as Alex95 stated. --Glowsquid (talk) 14:55, April 13, 2021 (EDT) WildBrain made the closed captions themselves: the closed captions are stated to be Canadian and SMBSS is only on Netflix in the U.S. Also, the captions are 100% original. You cannot find the same spelling for "all-purpose, portable plumber's helper" anywhere else. Grandet Omate (talk) 15:39, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

You do realize that "this one specific phrase is original, therefore all the captions are original" is a massive leap in logic, right? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:45, April 13, 2021 (EDT)
It is not just that, all of these also have different spellings from what you can online:
 • Muga the Medicine Woman
 • Château Koopla
 • pot o’ gold coins
 • light plunger
 • The First Mushroom Bank
 • Pirates Port
 • Obi-Wan Toady
 • stoolpigeon
 • Dealing Dalbert
 • Storm Troopa
 • Shy Guy Lion

They are definitely original. Grandet Omate (talk) 15:52, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

Shy Guy Lion's a previous article title. Check your article history better. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:32, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

That does not invalidate the others, so what is your point? Also, WildBrain, the creators of the captions, have access to all of DiC's assets. Grandet Omate (talk) 16:40, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

Why is this happening on my talk page... Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:41, April 13, 2021 (EDT)

Foreign names[edit]

You commented here in response to my request to add new languages to the "foreign names" template that you thought is was reasonable, yet you never took any action. What exactly did you mean by that? Here is my new list of requests by the way:

 • Arabic [needs romanization section]
 • Croatian: Super Mario World TV show
 • Estonian:
 • Greek [needs romanization section]
 • Indonesian
 • Latvian:
 • Lithuanian:
 • Slovak
 • Slovenian
 • Thai [needs romanization section]
 • Turkish
 • Ukrainian [needs romanization section]

Grandet Omate (talk) 08:56, April 20, 2021 (EDT)

Means I agreed with it, but never took action because I was waiting for more input. Though I may be an admin, my decisions alone aren't a one-and-done deal when it comes to basic wiki matters. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:13, April 20, 2021 (EDT)

Help wanted: fixing grammar[edit]

I've noticed some grammatical errors on MarioWiki articles, such as Good writing and Courtesy, but normal users can't edit those articles. Is it okay to let admins know about grammatical errors on those articles so they can fix them, or would that fall under "undermining admin authority"? Dwhitney (talk) 10:55, April 27, 2021 (EDT)

No, by all means, let someone know that something is worded oddly in our policies. What did you catch? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:04, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
What's in bold is how I believe the text should be corrected.

Good writing

 • "The goal of the Super Mario Wiki is to provide a complete, comprehensive, and well-written account of the Mario franchise. This need for quality goes beyond merely using proper grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation. The content itself also has to be good. For the most part, this is accomplished; however, there are a few issues that frequently come up with the writing."
 • "Summaries that aren't - 'Story' sections on game pages should only cover the meat of the plot. Nitty-gritty details should be saved for character, enemy, and level articles, etc."
 • "Pseudo-walkthroughs - If a game does not have a very hefty plot, its 'Story' section should be short. A level-by-level overview is unnecessary filler."
 • "Padding - Short articles and short sections aren't bad if there's not much to write about. It's better to keep an article or section short and relevant, not long, rambling, and tangential."
 • "Mario mania - Mario may be the main character of the series, but he's not the center of the universe. Don't make other characters' pages all about Mario. Keep the focus on them."
 • "Everything but the kitchen sink - Don't fill articles with descriptions of things that are only superficially similar to what the page is about. It's just more padding."
 • "Flowery writing - Overly fancy writing looks forced and is distracting to the reader. Repetition is bad, but abusing the thesaurus and using too many adjectives is just as undesirable."
 • "Epic writing - Grandiose, over-the-top dramatic prose does not make games sound more epic and interesting. It just makes the articles narmy. Keep it level-headed when writing summaries."
 • "Grimdark - There may be a few interesting instances in which Mario gets serious, but don't fixate on them. Blowing stuff out of proportion just skews our coverage and lowers the wiki's credibility."
 • "Reading between the lines - The articles are for facts, not speculation. Keep original interpretations and personal biases out of the writing."
 • "Unsupported analysis - Some things in the Mario series are left ambiguous, and making a few straightforward inferences is better than nothing, as long as it's supported by quotes and references, and is presented as being 'implied' (etc.), and not fact." (Remove comma after "(etc.).")
 • "Judgement calls - There is also a lot of contradictory material in the Mario series, but don't make assertions about which story is true or false. Just present them both and note which one is more recent or more widely adhered to in the games (if applicable)."
 • "Knitting everything together - By nature, most Mario games do not fit together into a cohesive timeline. Trying to link them together is speculation and should not be done."
 • "Fan worship - Character pages should not be bogged down by rambling essays and excessive details. That level of coverage and the way it's written is not thorough or informative. It's unprofessional and even off-putting at times."
 • "Fusing gameplay and story elements - Don't treat the mechanics of gameplay as if they were part of a flowing narrative. Gameplay is gameplay, and trying to treat it like story is unnatural and lowers the quality of the article."

I'll let you know what other grammatical errors I caught on the "Good writing" page later. Dwhitney (talk) 15:13, April 27, 2021 (EDT)

Awesome. I got, like, two minutes before I gotta head out, so I'll pass this on for either someone else to look at or I'll do it when I have the time. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:15, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
Looks like you're mostly just getting rid of colons. I think how they are used is fine? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:56, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
Colons are used to introduce something that illustrates or amplifies what the phrase or independent clause before the colon stated. In each colon example I listened above, the second clause seems to give other info about the first clause rather than being directly related to the first clause. Dwhitney (talk) 20:56, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
Here are more errors I found on the "Good writing" article. Again, what's in bold is how I believe the text should be corrected.
 • "Having the maximum amount of relevant information is good; however, users sometimes go overboard and try to cram every last detail of a game's plot into its summary."
 • "Similarly, the events that are included should not be given exhaustive coverage. Almost every plot point can be adequately covered by a single sentence or less."
 • "For an example of including unnecessarily minor aspects of the story, the plot summary of Super Paper Mario does not need to explain how 'Mario has to show Old Man Watchitt, the mayor of Yold Town, his newly found Pixl friend Thoreau so that Watchitt will phone Green the Bridgemaster to lower the bridge and let him pass into the Yold Desert.' Instead, all that needs to be said is that 'Mario passes through a place known as Yold Town on his way to the Yold Desert, acquiring Thoreau on the way.' The town is a setting of a level and is worth a mention, and getting the Pixl is a relevant plot point. However, the entire business with the Yold Town denizens can be ignored without compromising the narrative of Super Paper Mario."
 • "For an example of including too many details about certain events, the Story section of Luigi's Mansion can summarize the first portion of the game by explaining that 'Luigi visits the first floor and sucks up Neville, Lydia, and their baby Chauncey, before receiving a message from Professor E. Gadd telling him that the Poltergust 3000 is full, and that he has to return to the lab to empty it.' This touches on all the major plot points without getting too in-depth; by comparison, the following passage is unacceptably bogged down by details about the battles, the irrelevant goings-on between the plot points ('fighting ghost mice'), and unnecessarily frilly descriptions ('green-garbed plumber,' 'deadly game'):"
 • "Several users fall in the trap of thinking that short sections or articles are automatically 'stubs' and, thus, 'bad.'"
 • "Due to the often simplistic nature of non-RPG Mario games (particularly platformers), users often try to supplement these articles' short Story sections with world-by-world (or even level-by-level), boss-by-boss descriptions of the games."
 • "'Peach is kidnapped by Bowser, and Mario sets off to rescue her.' is plot. 'Mario traversed the grassy plains of World 1 and used Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and rare Invincibility Stars to defeat new foes and challenge the False Bowser waiting for him at the castle.' is not plot. It's cruft."
 • "Another thing to watch out for is the Mario-centric nature of the series bleeding into other characters' pages. It's a subtle difference, but 'Peach is kidnapped by Bowser and held in his castle until she is rescued by Mario.' keeps the focus on Peach and would be appropriate for her page's History section, while 'Peach is kidnapped by Bowser, and Mario goes to rescue her.' changes the focus to Mario's actions and would not be as ideal for Peach's article."
 • "The page for it should not feature every instance of Mario being shrunk in some way, although briefly mentioning in the introduction that he's been shrunk in ways besides the Mini Mario form is acceptable. Similarly, Baby Mario is a specific entity, and his page should not list every time Mario is shown as an infant in other Mario medias (unless, of course, those appearances are based on the 'Baby Mario' the page is about)."
 • "This issue often overlaps with MarioWiki:Generic subjects, which addresses the problem of users writing about every appearance of a generic real-world item or animal appearing in Mario media, rather than limiting the scope of the article to appearances in which the subject has a specific function, and isn't simply acting as it does in real life and is not key to the gameplay and/or story."
 • "A standard construction for opening sentences is '[Name of the page] is a [thing],' but if the name itself clearly describes what it is, these sorts of statements become rather redundant and laughable. So, rather than writing 'Pirate Goomba is a pirate Goomba.' or 'Kat and Ana's swords are swords that belong to Kat & Ana.', it's better to include additional information, such as 'Pirate Goomba is a non-playable character that appears in Mario Party 8.'"
 • "It's silly to write Mattermouth' is a portmanteau of 'matter' and 'mouth.',' as anyone with enough proficiency in English to read the wiki will be able to immediately figure that out."
 • "Epic, flowery, and grimdark writing"
 • "Overly fancy language is the worst offenderto put it simply, it feels forced. To use the Luigi's Mansion quotation form earlier as an example, there's no good reason to call a ghost baby a 'cherubim.' Just call him a 'baby,' or change things up with normal synonyms such as 'infant.' Flowery language often goes hand-in-hand with attempts to inject a sense of epicness to the content, and using grandiose and overly dramatic language is just as bad as run-of-the mill thesaurus regurgitation."
 • "This is Mario we're dealing with after all. It's fine to take it seriously if you want, but keep the heavy-handed dramatic prose off the articles."
 • "There are admittedly some things included in the Mario series that are left somewhat ambiguous (i.e., the various character backstories hinted at in Super Paper Mario), and it is better to have something rather than nothing about these aspects. But keep in mind that the interpretations must be straightforward and logical, backed up with solid references (i.e., the original quotes from the games or related material), and explicitly stated to be 'implied' or 'hinted at' (etc.), rather than passed off as solid fact."
 • "If there is a contradiction, simply provide both stories and comment on how they conflict without giving more credence to one version over the other, unless one is clearly anomalous when compared to all other relevant info (i.e., a single game guide mislabelling one enemy as another, etc.), although references should still be provided. Straightforward resolutions are not always easy to come by, however, since in most cases, Mario games do not link together (except in the recycling of main characters, generic enemies, items, and places; occasionally, cameos and other nods and references to early games may also be included)."
 • "Everyone who edits the wiki is a fan of the series and its characters; however, when it comes to the actual writing, users must be sure to keep it professional."
 • "Gameplay is getting from A to B, and story is what happens at A and B. They are both important aspects of the game (although to what extent varies from game to game and is largely dependent on genre). However, they are not one in the same."
 • "Similarly, treating technical aspects of gameplay such as item-collecting and power-up mechanics as part of the story does not work. It comes off as clunky and awkward."
 • "In these articles, it is okay to describe the story and the gameplay alongside one another. However, explaining what the moves are, what they do, and how to counter them should be presented as such, rather than treated as plot points."
 • "For example, it is okay to write that 'The Elder Shrooboid's first attack involves trapping Mario and Luigi in crystals and then retrieving a heavy metallic ball offscreen. It spins the ball and chain towards the Mario Bros. but becomes dizzy, drops the ball, and momentarily falls over, before getting back up and knocking the ball into one of the brothers and charging at the other one. The attack can only be dodged if the Mario Bros. jump around enough to break free of the crystals.'"
 • "By contrast, the following passage tries too hard to make the attack flow like a proper story, although the difference is admittedly subtle, such as the increased use of modifiers like 'will' and 'then' and never acknowledging that it is describing an 'attack.'
 • "This usually happens long after things like concepts being rejected, characters being cut from the game, etc. 'Beta' should not be used as a shorthand for "things that changed during development.' More precise terms such as 'cut,' 'unused,' 'concept art,' or simply 'early' should be used instead."
 • "Most usages of it on the wiki should be substituted with 'predecessor.'"
 • "A 'remix' uses the original recording and modifies it (such as by altering the pitch, adding new percussions and beats, etc.), while a rearrangement is a new recording of an existing composition." (Remove quotation marks from "remix.")
 • "In science, 'subspecies' (or 'sub-species') denotes different populations of a species that are genetically, geographically, and/or physically distinct to an extent, yet still similar enough for interbreeding to occur freely when possible."
 • "In reality, there are very few cases in the Mario series where enemies are similar enough to potentially be subspecies (i.e., red and blue Spike Tops in Paper Mario), and even then, since their evolutionary history, genetics, and breeding biology are unknown, it would still be speculation to definitively label anything as 'subspecies.' Instead, 'species' should be used for everything, and similarities should simply be discussed in terms of 'related,' 'derived,' or 'parent species.'" Dwhitney (talk) 19:31, April 28, 2021 (EDT)
Oh boy. I'll look over this when I can. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:11, April 29, 2021 (EDT)
Here are grammatical errors I found on Courtesy. What's in bold is how I believe the text should be corrected.
 • "Rude, intrusive, or disruptive behavior makes editing unpleasant for other users and will not be tolerated."
 • "Some of these offenses overlap with those listed on MarioWiki:Warning policy, and both pages should be consulted when users deal with questionable behavior on the wiki." (This fixes a dangling modifier.)
 • "The list of behaviors that are considered discourteous and unacceptable on this wiki is as follows."
 • "If you have witnessed behavior that is not listed here or on MarioWiki:Warning policy that you feel is rude, invasive, or disruptive, please contact an administrator or a patroller before proceeding with any punitive action."
 • "Instead, discuss the matter civilly and come to an agreement on the talk pages, be that to restore your edits, leave their reversions, or make a compromise of some sort."
 • "For example, if you're fixing someone's bad grammar, just say 'fixing grammar' or 'bad grammar,' but don't make snide remarks like 'what the heck are you trying to say?' or 'learn to write better.' Insulting, ridiculing, or otherwise antagonizing other users with your edit summaries is almost as inappropriate as flaming them directly."
 • "The only comments you are allowed to remove are flames and acts of vandalism, and the only times you are allowed to alter another user's comment is to fix broken coding or replace a custom signature with {} (talk) on pages that enforce the no-signature policy."
 • "This is not limited to mainspace. Even on your own talk page, you shouldn't delete a conversation."
 • "Making friends is good, but don't go claiming to be someone's friend unless there are actual grounds for it, because this will only get them mad at you."
 • "Don't speak on others' behalf or claim that you have friends in high places that will support you in an argument. If anything, this will make admins unwilling to side with you at all."
 • "While some users freely share details about things like their name, their age, and where they live, others are more private." (This fixes parallel structure.)
 • "While casual conversations often involve chatting about real-life matters, if someone implies they do not want to talk about something, drop the subject."
 • "While this is mainly directed at proposals, it applies to FAs, elections, and any other voting that takes place on the Super Mario Wiki. Even if you don't explicitly ask your friends to support your cause (or to join you in opposing something), simply contacting them makes it look as if you're fishing for votes in your favor. The only time you are allowed to draw someone's attention to a vote is when a proposal concerns a subject that is important to them."
 • "If it's ancient history, don't bring it up again. The user has moved on, and so should you."
 • "If an admin has issued a warning or reminder, or the user has been blocked, don't jump in with your own commentary, jeering or posturing. Being ganged up on may simply make the offender feel victimized and unwilling to obey the admin's warning. Similarly, if a user is blocked, don't post about their block on their talk page, whether it be with advice or in celebration of their 'defeat.'"
 • "Getting yourself involved when the admins have it covered just makes their jobs harder. If they're on the scene, stay out of it."
 • "It makes it harder for the administrators to maintain the peace and quality of the wiki if they have to worry about users second-guessing and rebelling against their decisions, so it is in everyone's best interests to simply treat them with deference."
 • "forgo the usage of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization when communicating with other users."
 • "If you're chatting with your buddies, you can be as lazy with your writing conventions as you want, but when you participate in proposals or talk page discussions, or when you ask someone (especially an admin) a wiki-related question on their talk page, you must use proper English (although shortened forms and common slang are fine)."
 • "While most of the Mario series is light and innocent, articles occasionally discuss content that some users find disagreeable, such as transgenderism, homosexuality, religion, and the use of profanity in quotes. Under no circumstances will users be allowed to remove or otherwise suppress material of this nature. The Super Mario Wiki is an encyclopedia and will not censor its information. In most cases, there have already been repeated attempts to remove the content, and reopening these debates is frowned upon as being futile, disruptive, and even offensive." While we're at it, there are several typos on MarioWiki:Image use policy that I've pointed out on its talk page. RickTommy (talk) 23:13, May 1, 2021 (EDT)

Personal Image[edit]

I noticed this user (User:Gamer2.1) has someone else's personal image for there userbox tower. -- Bowser64 (Talk - Sandbox) 14:45, April 30, 2021 (EDT)

There's a lot of other peoples' personal images in that tower. It happens. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:48, April 30, 2021 (EDT)

Re: Music links[edit]

Thanks! It's nice to be back. And I didn't think of that, but that makes sense. What would you recommend placing in the "source" section of the Aboutfile template (if anything at all)? I'll get everything fixed to whatever would be preferred. Sorry for the trouble. — Stooben Rooben 13:24, May 7, 2021 (EDT)

Alright, I can leave them blank from now on, then. Thanks for letting me know, and for going back through and editing the files, too. — Stooben Rooben 13:30, May 7, 2021 (EDT)

Shroom Spotlight[edit]

I don't know if you're allowed to revise 'Shroom sections after they're published, but if you can, then the current Spotlight issue needs one. It pulled a Snowball Valley again - I uploaded the requested Spaceport Alpha images 8 days before deadline and the Spotlight issue is claiming the goal wasn't completed. ('Shroom Spotlight sections really should not be submitted weeks in advance - specifically to avoid issues like this.) Dark BonesSig.png 15:44, May 15, 2021 (EDT)

I can keep editing the Spotlight until the 'Shroom issue goes up, it's a day-off section. I added in other goals that got met during writing, but I wasn't told of/missed yours. I'll add it, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:00, May 15, 2021 (EDT)

Do you know how to link to a section on a Wikipedia page, such as "Cops and robbers" on Tag (game), from the Super Mario Wiki? Dwhitney (talk) 15:25, May 22, 2021 (EDT)

Tag (game)#Cops and robbers Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:44, May 22, 2021 (EDT)

Accidental anonymous edit[edit]

I asked this on another admin's talk page, but they seem to have left before getting the message. I accidentally forgot to log in and made an edit. Is it possible for you to hide it or something like that? It was a total mistake, and I don't want my IP public.Dark BonesSig.png 21:37, May 23, 2021 (EDT)

Yeah, I saw it. I'll hide it, no worries. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:39, May 23, 2021 (EDT)
nvm Keyblade beat me to it XD Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:40, May 23, 2021 (EDT)

How can this happen on this wiki?[edit]

A long time ago, I signed in to the Super Mario Wiki under the user name "MarioBobFan2007", but the next day I was back to my old non account I did something on the wiki that changed my thing and I am now How and why did this happened, and can it happen on this wiki to other people too. That is all I need to know. 03:34, May 25, 2021 (EDT)

Do you think you could add "player character" to the "Playable character" section on MarioWiki:Glossary so it says something like "Playable character or player character," since "player character" is a real phrase? That phrase also seems to be used on this wiki. Dwhitney (talk) 18:09, May 25, 2021 (EDT)

Yeah, that should be fine. Will do in a bit. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:07, May 25, 2021 (EDT)

Are we allowed to talk about non Mario and non video game stuff on talk pages?[edit]

Are we allowed to talk about non Mario and non video game stuff on talk pages? That's all I need to know.

If it's relevant and helpful to the wiki, sure. If you just want to talk about non-Mario stuff in general, best view our forums. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:07, May 25, 2021 (EDT)

OK. 20:10, May 25, 2021 (EDT)

Why did this happen?[edit]

Why did this happen? Why are people when they are editing a normal article, they have to preview the things before they save their changes. This happened last year. It does not apply to talk pages, however. NOTE: This is indeed the 200th talk thing on this talk page.

Security measure, I guess Porple added it earlier. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:07, May 25, 2021 (EDT)

OK. 20:09, May 25, 2021 (EDT)
