why is this one page?[edit]
This article discusses Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 as if it were a combination port of both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, along the lines of Super Mario 3D All Stars. This is... literally not the case though. The physical cartridge you can buy simply lets you play the separate (and separately purchasable from the e-shop) Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 games. There should really be separate pages for Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo Switch) and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Switch) that cover the changes made, and this page should just document the combo meal deal. Like Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Mario Bros. --PopitTart (talk) 17:48, October 1, 2025 (EDT)
- It's a combo cartridge, like Hasbro Game Night. Yeah, they appear as separate games digitally, but are on the same cartridge, named Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. We also have the Switch as a platform for both stand-alone games, so I don't see an issue. —

- Because this page has a "Changes" section that doen't make any sense. The bundle has no changes. The versions of the individual games on Switch have changes. --PopitTart (talk) 18:52, October 1, 2025 (EDT)
- That's a little redundant, and I don't like it being called a compilation. That'd be multiple games in one piece or software, this is two separate pieces of software. The Amiibos and everything else is fine. What I'm saying is that you can purchase both games together or seperate, with different cover art and prices makes this article worthy, but I wouldn't go into detail about the games themselves. —

- Yes, that. is exactly my point? The wiki currently acts like "Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2" is a compilation port when its just a cartridge that contains two distinct ports.--PopitTart (talk) 19:16, October 1, 2025 (EDT)
- My bad. I misinterpreted this as you wanting to delete this article. I think this Wiki in general has a problem with counting ports as different games, but that's a discussion for another day. If Donkey Kong Country Returns HD gets an article, so should the Switch ports of Super Mario Galaxy duology. —

- ...Honestly, now that you bring it up, we can't unsee it. Given you can buy these separate, it makes no sense to clump these two together.

I agree with the split. Creating an article for each remaster would also allow for removing the Switch-specific information from the Wii games' articles: e.g., the article for Super Mario Galaxy lists "Nintendo Switch" as one of the platforms, which is not done for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon despite it having a Switch remaster as well. Jdtendo(T|C) 02:56, October 2, 2025 (EDT)
- The split makes sense as they are separate games but keeping them together makes sense as many additions apply to both games and repeating the info across two articles seems redundant to me. Many changes in Super Mario Galaxy were also seen in 3D All-Stars so repeating that info seems more redundant.

- I also agree with splitting since they're treated as two separate games. New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U and Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move + Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! are comparable. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 09:41, October 2, 2025 (EDT)
My guess as to why they're part of the same article is because the title caused confusion that it was a compilation and not two separate pieces of software. Put me in for split by the way. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 15:35, October 2, 2025 (EDT)
I vote for split too. maybe have the page link the two pages as disambiguation? they're separate games even tho it's a package. but that'd be like giving "SMB 1 + Duck Hunt" a page. LetsPlayNintendoITA 20:43, October 2, 2025 (EDT)
- I agree that "Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo Switch)" and "Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Switch)" should also become separate pages, but this page, "Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2" should keep its page as well. Bundles of multiple games into one also got articles on the wiki, like "New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U" and "Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move + Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!" (as Hewer said), and "Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Mario Bros." (as PopitTart said). So turning this page into something similar to those would be a good idea. It's not really comparable to "Super Mario Bros. 1 + Duck Hunt", since that's a Mario game and a non-Mario game. We don't have a page on, say "Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition" for that same reason, since that's a Mario game and a non-Mario game in the same bundle, but the previously-mentioned bundles do have pages since it's multiple Mario-related games into a single package. --Metalex123 (talk) 23:13, October 2, 2025 (EDT)
Should a proposal be created first to carry out this split? Jdtendo(T|C) 01:52, October 3, 2025 (EDT)
- No because as stated above New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U and Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move + Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! have separate articles. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:48, October 3, 2025 (EDT)
I think this should just stay one page. Yes, you can buy them separately, but they're very much treated as one product by the same dev team working on them, the promotional material covering both, changes that are shared across both games, etc. We could just make separate sections for each individual game if we wanted. Idk I just don't see the point in a split here. Technetium (talk) 13:26, October 3, 2025 (EDT)
- So I just thought of something... Something very similar happened not too long ago with Pikmin 1+2 on Switch, where there was a physical copy for both games in one, but the games were also sold separately on the eShop... What did Pikipedia do for this situation? Can we do the same as them for Mario Galaxy 1+2? I think it would be useful to look at what they did in the same situation, to help us figure out what to do on the Super Mario Wiki with the Galaxy remasters. --Metalex123 (talk) 17:13, October 4, 2025 (EDT)
- They handle it about like how we've chosen to handle things after splitting the page--Pikmin 1+2 is about the bundle itself and has a list of changes that are applied to both titles, and there's two pages about Pikmin 1 on Switch and Pikmin 2 on Switch that discuss more specific changes that only impact one title.

- Oh, I hadn't even noticed that the individual games had been split now, thanks for letting me know about this and what they did for Pikmin 1+2! --Metalex123 (talk) 18:13, October 4, 2025 (EDT)

I collected a Life Mushroom in Assist Mode while being at full health.[edit]
It gave me an extra life in both games. This is an addition they made in Galaxy 2 (and I also had that happen on Wii) but these two videos show that collecting a Life Mushroom in Galaxy 1 at full health does nothing. Can someone test if this is an addition in Assist Mode or a change in Galaxy 1? Remembered Old Buddy

Transitions[edit]
In the part where it says "Bowser's face transition upon the player losing a life no longer occurs; the screen now simply fades to black.", it only applies to Galaxy 2. I'd change it myself, but the page is locked.
Edit: Galaxy 1's Switch page is unlocked. My point still stands, though.

Why a real game???[edit]
When I saw the page for goomba, the latest appearance was this "game", this infuriates me because a remake does not count as a game, so just revert all these pages back to their real latest appearances. 142.162.45.152 17:26, October 6, 2025 (EDT)
- First of all, the distinction between a game being "Real" or not is, very silly. Just as no titles are "more canon", no titles are "more real". At any rate. Re-releases do, in fact, count as distinct games for the sake of "latest appearance" sections. The alternative is trying to specifically list only one remake in the table, but seeing as they both released at exactly the same time, and also released as a bundle at the exact same time, it's simplest, and most concise, to just refer to the bundle as the latest appearance.
