Talk:Party Ball (item)
Merge?[edit]
I think enough time has passed to finally talk about this again. Spectrogram (talk) 09:36, February 15, 2023 (EST)
- It should be merged specifically with Coin Bag (Super Princess Peach), in my opinion. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:56, February 15, 2023 (EST)
- That's not at all the same Spectrogram (talk) 11:28, February 15, 2023 (EST)
- Considering these are all based on the same real object, I wouldn't be opposed to merging this and the SPP Coin Bag to Party Ball. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 11:47, February 15, 2023 (EST)

- With...Coin Bag? No, no, it should just go on the list. Cosmic Cowboy was here 11:05, February 15, 2023 (EST)
- What's wrong with merging the round Japanese piñatas that open like Pac-Man together with each other? Especially since "coin bag" is non-descriptive conjecture? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:38, February 15, 2023 (EST)

Do not merge 2-5
The Party Ball item hasn't appeared in any Super Mario game outside of the Super Smash Bros. series. I was humbly wondering if there's a possibility to merge this page with the list of Super Smash Bros. series items.

Support[edit]
- GuntherBB (talk) Per proposal
- Hewer (talk) Per my misplaced vote on this proposal as to why I don't think a merge with the other Party Ball(s) is a good idea. I don't see a problem with putting this on the Smash item list though, my best guess as to why it's not there already is that it can have a ton of Bob-ombs in it but that feels a bit tenuous when all the other container items in Smash can contain Mario items too.
Oppose[edit]
- Waluigi Time (talk) Makes more sense to merge with Party Ball in my opinion, especially since there's an ongoing proposal to expand that page's scope. They're both based on the same real life object with no meaningful difference.
- Camwoodstock (talk) Per Waluigi Time--we'd prefer a merge to Party Ball, since as it stands, we currently have three unique articles for the same generic object.
- MegaBowser64 (talk) D’accord avec tous (Per all)
- Archivist Toadette (talk) Per Waluigi Time. See Beehive as an example of this.
- Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Indeed.
Comments[edit]
Given the opposition, I am now more perplexed than ever that everyone supported the split of the Super Smash Bros. CD from the Wario Land 4 CD. I mean yeah, the Wario Land 4 CDs are called Time CDs in Japan, but as I previously stated in that proposal, both CDs still have the same purpose and don't have any different functions. If these aren't allowed to be merged, then why do we keep the Super Smash Bros. Beehive merged in our Beehive article when the SSB one is clearly from Animal Crossing instead of anything Mario related? rend (talk) (edits) 12:48, February 26, 2024 (EST)
- Yeah, I definitely think Beehive should get the same treatment as CD, it's hard to argue it's meant to be generic when it's very clearly presented as being from Animal Crossing. And again I bring up food and fan not being on articles about all food or all paper fans. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 15:25, February 26, 2024 (EST)
- Lang-of-Orig names matter to some of us. Also, 8-5 support is not an overwhelming majority. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:24, February 26, 2024 (EST)
- Honestly, Smash's CDs being presented as original objects completely separate to any other thing would've made me support that proposal even without the Japanese name difference. Having Japanese name and absolutely nothing else decide things in these cases is a bit silly when Smash is basically giving us official statements that its items are their own thing (and the English names are also the same anyway so it's not an origin vs. localisation thing). Merge with Party Ball 8-2
It's been a month, two weeks, and six days since my last proposal was declined. I humbly ask if there's a possibility to merge this page with "Party Ball." As Waluigi Time, Camwoodstock, and Archivist Toadette clearly said, merging this article with "Party Ball" is a better idea than merging with "List of Super Smash Bros. series items." What do you say?

- GuntherBayBeee (talk) Per proposal
- SolemnStormcloud (talk) Per proposal.
- Ahemtoday (talk) ...worried about looking like a hypocrite for this, given my CD proposal is used as an example above, but unlike those, kusudama are generic subjects named identically in the games' region of origin.
- LinkTheLefty (talk) We have Smash-branded barrels in the same article as Mario-franchise ones, so I guess this makes sense too.
- Camwoodstock (talk) Per us awhile back--it seems only fair to merge this with its Mario equivalent, not to some random Smash list.
- Archivist Toadette (talk) As I previously stated, Beehive already covers its Smash Bros. content despite it not being the same beehive covered elsewhere in the article, so it's probably fine to treat it the same in this case.
- MegaBowser64 (talk) Per all of yall (collectively)
- Pizza Master (talk) Per proposal.
Oppose[edit]
- Hewer (talk) I'll just reuse my previous oppose vote: Per several of the arguments from this proposal. Smash calls its Party Balls original to Smash and doesn't acknowledge any appearance in Super Princess Peach, and I don't buy the "generic item" excuse seeing as that didn't stop them from considering Soccer Ball to be from NES Soccer and Mario Strikers. And we don't cover food on a page about every food item from the franchise, do we? Or fan on a page about any unrelated instance of a paper fan? It would be a strange choice for organisation when the items are completely unrelated beyond sharing a basis. (I agree with a merge to List of Super Smash Bros. series items though)
- Axis (talk) Per Hewer.
Comments[edit]
@Hewer I doubt the makers of Smash realized it had been in any other games, so the "generic object" argument still applies. Unlike the soccer ball, this isn't a core element, it's a minor gimmick. Also, it's still primarily based on the Party Balls from the previous Smash games behaviorally. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:10, May 4, 2024 (EDT)
- Feels too speculative to me to just assume that it was a mistake in defiance of official word, and it being based on the ones from previous Smash games is a moot point, they always acknowledge Melee as the item's first appearance. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 07:27, May 6, 2024 (EDT)
