Should this really be split?[edit]
The size difference here is very mild at best and they share the same base model (unlike, for example, the Goomba sizes), and we don't split the much larger size differences between the rolling boulders in the same game, nor do we split the flying type. Also, the "name" is just a general description. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:09, December 23, 2024 (EST)
- I think merging them together would be fine. - Nintendo101 (talk)
- What's their Japanese name? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:52, December 24, 2024 (EST)
- From what I can tell, they ain't got one. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:36, December 24, 2024 (EST)
- I think @SmokedChili may have access to some Japanese material for this game, or at least that was my assumption when I saw his contributions to the Big Amp page. Perhaps he has some insight to share. - Nintendo101 (talk) 12:41, December 24, 2024 (EST)

Look at the discussion above. I made this proposal with the primary goal of eliminating the suggested merge once and for all.

Merge[edit]
Improve the current state of the article[edit]
- Sorbetti (talk) Unlike other enemies that vary in size depending on the level, there is a constant difference here that for some reason, is explained on the page for the regular Thorny Flower and not the giant one. The problem with this article is that it doesn't explain anything about the subject for some reason and is poorly written. "They behave just like their smaller variants" is simply a lie. The page also doesn't specify where these enemies appear, and in fact, again for some reason, that information is on the page for the regular Thorny Flower. This only demonstrates that the poor state of the page isn't due to the enemy but to the page written itself. That's why I suggest improving it instead of deleting it, since it's an enemy with its own mechanics, different from the small enemy, and that's enough to warrant its own page. If it were merged with Thorny Flower, not only would the information on SMG be a bit stranger, but the naming section would also look odd. I think keeping both articles separate is the right thing to do if they both have different and unique information.
- PrincessPeachFan (talk): Per Sorbetti.
- Nintendo101 (talk) I think we need to more narrowly delineate what is recognized as "large Subject Name" vs. "Big Subject Name" or "Mega Subject Name."
Do nothing[edit]
Comments[edit]
So, what are the gameplay differences between this plant and the base size variant? It's been said this article is misleading ("They behave just like their smaller variants" is simply a lie.") but I didn't see details being offered. Currently I'm going to go on a limb and believe these are potentially the same hazard but scaled and copied around a bit. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if there are multiple sizes used for thorny flowers, not just "big" and "small" but it's a long while since I played these games.

- To explain it more easily, I'll compare the behavior of both. Normal Thorny Flowers act as simple hazards and come in two varieties, static and flying. Both serve the same function, obstacles that damage the player upon contact, so they must be avoided. Throughout several levels, due to this behavior, Thorny Flowers are assigned positions and locations that make them a challenge to evade. A Thorny Flower can be eliminated in several ways, such as with a Fire Flower or Yoshi, and upon elimination, they drop Star Bits. Now, on the other hand, with the Giant Prickly Plants, these, unlike the Thorny Flowers, are rare, appearing in only three galaxies. And while in Gusty Garden Galaxy they function as simple obstacles, in Dusty Dune and Good Egg Galaxy they are a challenge since they must be defeated to advance. However, the way to defeat them isn't always clear, as they involve a puzzle or new mechanic. Therefore, the player must spend some time investigating how to defeat them. After being defeated, instead of releasing Star Bits, they will release a Sling Star or Launch Star to continue through the level, similarly to Pokeynuts. As you can see, not only do they both have different mechanics but also different functions, with Thorny Flowers being simple obstacles while Giant Prickly Plants are impediments to the levels. The current page doesn't include any of this information, it doesn't include the puzzles or ways to defeat them and only says that they are the same as Thorny Flowers.
