Ningyo-hime is a mermaid form Daisy takes on two occasions in the Super Mario Kodansha manga.
In Super Mario Kart 2, Daisy requests to be the damsel in distress in the second story, as she had not appeared often prior to this. Ningyo-hime lives in Gilgamesh Shotō and is one day trapped in a clam by Poseidon Koopa. She sends Princess Peach, Mario, and their friends a message for help in a bottle, and they arrive and release her. Peach is disappointed by the lack of a treasure, but Ningyo-hime assures that she has an actual treasure map, offering it if they manage to defeat Poseidon Koopa. The group succeeds in their mission and locate the treasure on a cloud, forcing Ningyo-hime to be left on land because, as a mermaid, she cannot leave the water. Seeing her sadness, after he calms the treasure, an elixir that grants wishes, Mario asks for the mermaid's wish to be granted. The god entrusted with the elixir reads into Ningyo-hime's heart and showers her with it, turning her human, but she is disappointed: her wish was to rule the world. As the god vanishes in embarrassment, chased by the princess, Yosshīdamusu narrates that the mermaid ended up becoming the princess of Sarasaland, implying that this was Daisy's origin story.
In Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land 1, in order to make Peach fall out of love for Mario, Daisy disguises herself as a mermaid to aid Wario, calling herself a "Water Spirit", by giving him the Power Up Pot, hoping that Peach would start to look Wario under a different light as the new hero, so that Daisy can take Mario for herself. At one point, Daisy is frozen by the Penguin. When struggling against him, Mario grabs the Jet Pot she was holding and uses it to defeat the boss. With his defeat, the other frozen victims, Daisy included, are freed.
Ningyo-hime's appearance differs between her two appearances. In Super Mario Kart 2, she has a crown and a crop top. In Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land 1, she instead wears jewelry and flower-shaped pasties.
In Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land 2, she only appears in the cover flap with Mototin.

- Colored artwork of Ningyo-hime's "Water Spirit" appearance uses different color schemes. One artwork depicts her with a yellow tail and pasties, while another artwork depicts them as a reddish-magenta, with only half of the tail fin being yellow.
