Support[edit]
- Yoshi18 (talk) 2 years ago (back in 2023) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe got his official last content/DLC update and with that this article is pretty much completed. Since this article is completed I think it should become featured. Mario Kart 8 is already featured and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a lot more detailed. The page has no dead (or red) (external) links, everything possible sourced (and makes no use of the {{ref needed}} template) and is overall pretty detailed (I'm mainly proud of the Pre-release and unused content section) and the details are of reasonable length. A reasonable amount of images (in decent quality) are shown in the article if needed (for the characters for example or sometimes to demonstrate things), and the game's gallery is absolutely huge and has many in-game screenshots with well-written summaries. I can safely say that the page follows the Manual of Style along with the other policies. The page also is not tagged with any improvement tags. The first (couple) paragraph(s) perfectly sum up what the game is about. This article just has everything and definitely shows that it has much to offer. I'm honestly surprised that this article wasn't at least nominated back in 2023 after Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass released.
Oppose[edit]
- Camwoodstock (talk) Unsourced dates, ratings, and foreign names, as well as dead external links with no provided substitutes, so it fails our sniff test. The prose is fine, but the tables... Yeesh. there is a gnarly case of layout table-ing in the Characters, Character Variants, Rival Order, and to a lesser extent, the "Original order of courses in Waves 3 to 6", the tables aren't series styled (fair enough, as that's been our job for a bit) but they aren't consistently styled amongst one another (a bit less fair), and the New items table... Is that a header call in a cel? This thing needs proper sourcing, and those tables need a proper spit and shine before we consider supporting this.
- Sargent Deez (talk) Per Camwoodstock, and we need more reviews in the Reception section. Also, the sentence "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been received with universal acclaim" needs to be rewritten to sound less biased.
- Rykitu (talk) Per all. Work still needs to be done.
- SuperGamer18 (talk) While the article is quite expansive (my PC and my phone somewhat struggle to edit this article), some of the issues pointed out in the comments and oppose votes still need to be addressed. Additionally, I've added a huge missing coverage point in my third update, so that has to be addressed as well.
- BMfan08 (talk) Per Camwoodstock. The tables are looking pretty gnarly, especially in dark mode, where some of them appear to be behaving as if they were still in light mode.
- Wandering Poplin (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]
@Camwoodstock I get what you mean but the part of unsourced dates, ratings, and foreign names isn't really an argument here. All Mario Kart games that are featured articles (which is all Mario Kart games except DS, Tour and (kinda obviously) World) have all those things as well, yet they're still featured

- The lack of citations on those articles may have not been as much of a concern when those articles were featured, but there are still objective flaws present in those articles which are important to address. This is especially important when we consider whether to newly feature an article that is currently unfeatured, because featured articles are held to the highest standards of wiki guidelines.

I've applied wikitable formatting to all tables on the article page and found citations for most of the age ratings. Previously, the Reception section was also addressed to add more reviews and rewrite the section's introductory paragraph. To my knowledge, here are the remaining tasks that would need to be done so that the article has no obvious flaws and would thus be worthy of being featured:
- Find citations for the release date of the game in Japan, Europe, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia.
- Find citations for the game's CADPA (China) and NMC (United Arab Emirates) age rating.
- Ensure that all web page citations and external links (with the possible exception of YouTube videos) have archived links available.
- Create articles for Nintendo Live 2023, Nintendo Live 2024, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024, so that the game's article contains no red links.
Are there any additional issues with the formatting and/or colors used in the article's tables?

- Not really an update about additional content, but rather an update to what's left to address in general, so I'll recap it here:
- Find a citation for the NMC rating
- Try to find working archives for several links (if possible)
- Create articles for Nintendo Live 2023, Nintendo Live 2024, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024 and add some info about these to the main article so it doesn't look like a placeholder as much as it does now
- Cover the early prototype (and possible move the Pre-release and unused content to a separate page)
- Check TCRF for any other unused/pre-release content that we can cover
- Standardize the tables in the article
- (Maybe?) find more reviews/award nominations/victories
If any of these are inaccurate/have been addressed, please let me know. SuperGamer18 (talk) 01:08, January 31, 2026 (UTC)
- It's a start, though plenty of the tables are still dreaded "layout" tables that prioritize aesthetic over... being a table, mostly with the Characters-related tables. There were also a few other backend quibbles (using
<center>>HTMl tags over thecenterCSS class, hard-coding borders that end up stacking on top of the wikitable class' borders) that we took care of.

- I found citations for the Japanese and European release dates relatively easily so those can be ticked off the list. Not sure where the other release dates can be found however. (ps: I tried archiving the Japanese store page but whenever I opened the archived page it gave me an error, this is also the case with the former most recent archive) SuperGamer18 (talk) 23:03, January 18, 2026 (UTC)
- Update 2: I found a working archive for the only dead link, ironically enough being a YouTube video. I also reformatted the last citation in that video's section to somewhat match the previous citation. SuperGamer18 (talk) 00:22, January 19, 2026 (UTC)
- Update 3: I was able to find citations for the missing release dates as well as two for the CADPA rating (I couldn't find a source for the NMC rating yet). As for archived link assurance, I was able to find working archived links for almost every citation except for the previously mentioned Japanese store page, citation 1 (Australian store page, several archives that are quite funky) citation 35 (one of two GameXplain videos, several archives but none work), citation 40 (NOA X post, one archive that's actually a non-functional redirect in disguise even though it's marked blue, WM has problems archiving X stuff ATP), citation 45 (that one unlisted NOA video, several archives but none work) and citation 55 (the other X post, no archives, WM has problems archiving X stuff ATP). Additionally, I'd like to add that the wiki doesn't seem to cover the prototype build of the game, dated 2016-10-18 (before the Switch was even announced/released!), though it may be somewhat risky to do so due to its nature, though if someone ever dares covering it, the Pre-release/unused content section should probably turn into its own page (right now it only covers DLC stuff). TCRF already has a subpage for it so that could be a good starting point. SuperGamer18 (talk) 22:40, January 30, 2026 (UTC)
