Yoshi's Island
Yoshi's Island.

Yoshi's Island is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and is based on Super Mario World. It is in a "valley", which is enclosed by a slope on one side and a Warp Pipe on the other. In the middle, there is a hole with Turning Blocks above it. When the Turning Blocks are hit, characters can fall in the hole and get KOed. There are also two groups of turning blocks floating on the stage serving as additional platforms. In the background, various Super Mario World enemies can be seen. This stage reappears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, if the stage is played on three times, the player will unlock the Virtual Console trial of Super Mario World. Another Yoshi's Island-themed stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee is Yoshi's Story.

Trivia

  • Although the stage's background is from the level Yoshi's Island 1, the song is derived from the level Yoshi's Island 3.
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, if Pokemon Trainer is standing on a Turning Block in this stage, when it flips, he will be shown standing in midair.
  • Yoshi's Island is the only Yoshi series stage to not be based on an area from a game in that series, but rather a Mario series one.
