Drill Spinning is a technique used by Mario and Luigi in New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. This skill can be performed after jumping off a Spin Block. While Mario or Luigi is in the air, the player should press and hold +Control Pad down. This causes Mario or Luigi to move in a downward, drill-like spin, which allows Mario or Luigi to break multiple Brick Blocks in a row. It also makes Mario or Luigi's descent faster. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the propeller characters can press +Control Pad down while flying in midair to perform a Drill Spin. Unlike the Ground Pound, there is no way to stop a Drill Spin once started.
