Blue Crabbers[1][2] are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are blue-colored Crabber variants that, contrary to Red Crabbers, are more shy toward the player and do not appear in groups. They are rarer to find than Red Crabbers, as usually only one of them appears per mission. They are always found among Red Crabber groups, wandering around, and upon noticing Mario (or Luigi), they will try to escape by moving away in a zigzag pattern. They can be defeated by spinning at their rear (which can be reached by spinning on their face, launching a Star Bit, or jumping on them), by throwing a Fireball at them, or by hitting them with Rock Mario's boulder form. After being defeated, they drop a 1-Up Mushroom in place, making them very valuable. Although Blue Crabbers don't try actively to hurt the player, if the player touches one, it will deal damage and, like most enemies in both games, it will laugh at the player character. After a Blue Crabber loses aggro on the player after trying to escape from them, regardless of how close it is to its original spot, it will dig down and then return to its original spot where it digs back up, as long as the player is not above it.
History
Super Mario Galaxy
Blue Crabbers first appear in Super Mario Galaxy and its Nintendo Switch port. They are first encountered in the Dusty Dune Galaxy mission "Sunbaked Sand Castle". One appears on the Sand Tide Planet alongside other enemies and a single Red Crabber. Another later appears in the Bigmouth Galaxy starting area, where it once again appears with a single Red Crabber. In the Sea Slide Galaxy mission "The Silver Stars of Sea Slide", another Blue Crabber appears, hiding among a group of Red Crabbers. Finally, the last Blue Crabber appears in the Deep Dark Galaxy near a chest alongside several Red Crabbers in the starting area of the Ghost Ship Cave Planet, where it is present in all missions.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Blue Crabbers return in Super Mario Galaxy 2 alongside Red Crabbers. They first appear in the Prankster Comet mission of the Boulder Bowl Galaxy, "Rolling Crabber Romp", where they appear alongside an enormous group of Red Crabbers. Here three of them appear, which is the first time more than one Blue Crabber has ever appeared per galaxy. The objective of the mission is to defeat all Red Crabbers and Blue Crabbers by hitting them with Rock Mario's boulder before time runs out. In the Battle Belt Galaxy, one Blue Crabber appears alongside two Red Crabbers on the Crabber Planet, where the player must defeat all of them in order to progress.
