The 'Shroom:Issue 233/Palette Swap
Director's Notes
Hi everyone! Welcome back for the August issue of The 'Shroom!
We're a little over one week away from the 'Ber months as I type this, and I know some people who are fall fanatics! Where I live, it stays relatively warm through mid-October, and we tend to go from summer to winter pretty un-gracefully. Maybe this year, we'll have a chance to break out the cardigans and leggings before Thanksgiving. My feeds have been full of Fire Emblem content, as Nintendo seems to be throwing all their weight behind Fortune's Weave. I don't have a Switch 2 yet, otherwise I might consider getting it and making it my first FE game. For now, I'll be content to watch playthroughs and lore analysis videos from people who care deeply about this series.
We have a guest section this month, a Community Art piece sent in by Zdrmonster (talk)! Thank you! If you would like to submit a piece of art for Community art, please message me on the forum and include your art, and we'll get you featured!
Due to Awards fatigue, all of our Fiction sections have gone on break this month. Worry not- the stories will continue next month! Our writers just need to give their brains a break.
Happy reading! ~FunkyK38

Waluigi Time Comic
Drawn by: Waluigi Time (talk)
"Vending Machine"
Panel 1
[Waluigi Time, depicted as a Mii, looks toward the reader with an outstretched arm.]
WALUIGI TIME: I would just love it if there were a vending machine right here.
Panel 2
[The 'Shroom's vending machine comes crashing down suddenly, sending Waluigi Time into the air with a surprised expression.]
Panel 3
[Waluigi Time stands happily in front of the vending machine with his arms raised.]
WALUIGI TIME: Aw yeah, I love the look of that vending machine!
Panel 4
[A wider view reveals that the vending machine has been dropped directly next to another vending machine from Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.]
VENDING MACHINE: Inventory assessment: Competent civic planning out of stock.
The ? Panel
Chester: Welcome to my humble home. Come on in, I'll show you around.
{Chester holds a tray mysteriously without anything, even offering a nutted cookie}
Chester: A tad peckish, aren't you? Have a biscuit, made with love & care, and Goomnuts!
{In the playroom that contains toys that include the Virtual Boy and the Game Boy, Chester holds a Rubik's Cube and spins the sides while solving it}
Chester: Witness: this puzzling cube is child's play thanks to my cleverness!
{The Goomba finishes solving the Rubik's Cube}
Chester: Ta-daah!
{Chester then sits on an armchair holding a cross-stitch fabric and a needle, who sewed up a Goomba resembling the sprite from Super Mario Bros.}
Chester: The art of cross-stitching can get *quite* precise. Watch the needle go!
{Chester takes a guitar and strums a tune from it}
Chester: Did I ever tell you that music is in my soul? Lend me your ears and tune in.
{Chester goes to a ship in a bottle and taking a stick to open the ship's sails. This ship resembles Black Skull, Cortez's ship}
Chester: Quiet. Patience is key in the art of getting this ship in shipshape shape in this delicate bottle. There!
{Chester is currently juggling, when the mysterious visitor, Mr. E interjects}
Chester: Watch 'em go: one-
(Full: Watch 'em go: one, two, three, four. Four! Four balls in the air at the same time!)
Mr. E: Hold on! I, Mr. E, the seeker of mysteries, is really just here for the juicy mystery. You know, the one!
Chester: Oh yeah, that one!
{Chester catches all four balls he was juggling, tips his hat, and winks at Mr. E}
Chester: Amazingly fascinating, isn't it? Such handless dexterity? That's on you to find out! Capisce?
Mr. E: This is gonna be a tough nut to crack! {Thinking} (Why did I get the feeling he just [Hand pointing] at me?)
Title: If Goombas have extra limbs... what would it look like?
Subtitle: Quadruped
{Both Goombas have four feet under the stem. The left Goomba sees one of the feet with uncertainty, while the right Goomba trips over one of the feet.
Subtitle: Small arms at the stem
{Both Goombas have tiny arms with gloves attached to their stems. The left Goomba scratches the chin with the right hand, while the right Goomba clasps the fingers with a cunning look}
Subtitle: Big arms at the head
{Both Goombas have gigantic, five-fingered arms attached to their head} The left Goomba flashes the arms, while the right Goomba supports the body with the right hand and use the left hand to give a thumb up}
Subtitle: Tentacles from under head
{Both Goombas have tentacles growing from under their heads. The left Goomba swings using the left tentacle, while the right Goomba dances while swaying the tentacles around}
Subtitle: Floating hands
{Both Goombas have floating gloved hands. The left Goomba has a floating hand depicting an open palm, signifying Paper. The right Goomba has a floating hand depicting a fist, signifying Rock. The left Goomba snickers at his victory in Roshambo over the right Goombo, who puts his floating hand on his face in disappointment}
Subtitle: Huh. Guess they were hidden in plain sight...
{Both Goombas have prehensile eyebrows. The two Goombas use their eyebrows to toast their mugs full of non-alcoholic beverage with each other. A Goombo is in the bottom-right corner being envy at the sight of them}
Goombo: No fair! You get to do that but I can't!

Hello there, and welcome to another edition of Random Video Analysis, an ongoing 'Shroom series where I find a random YouTube video and casually talk about it! I'm a bit tired after making my Awards Presentation, so this section is on the shorter side, but I hope you still like it.
In the spirit of finding a video to celebrate 20 years of Mario Wiki Awards, I decided to find something first shown to me in 2022 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! - EPIC Happy Birthday Song! This is just what you need if you're bored of the standard "Happy Birthday" song; it's much more exciting and it'll give you a good laugh!
So... the channel that made this video (The Epic Happy Birthday Songs) made a bunch of these videos, but instead of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!", it features a specific name. There's a variation for every name out there, but this one works for any occasion!
Do you have a video you feel is special? Feel free to recommend it to me in this thread. Be sure to read the rules before posting, and note that I prioritize those who haven't had a chance to submit yet! I'll even let you add your own thoughts on it at the end! Be aware that sometimes I want to choose my own videos, so recommendations won't always be available. I already have something chosen for September for example!
What's it about?
Oh boy, how do I describe this? The short answer is - it's difficult to! This is a video that you just have to watch to understand it.
This video has it all: dogs wearing party hats, clowns, aliens, dinosaurs, kart racing, happy people, stock footage, an excited lamb, a knight, kung-fu, babies, and much more. All of which is meant to celebrate someone's Birthday in the best way possible! Check out the gallery if you want a few visuals from this... EPIC video.
At the end of this video is a website address - www.EpicHappyBirthdaySongs.com. I looked it up, and the website is from the creators of the video - you get to find the best Birthday song and video for whoever!
Interesting observations
- Some commenters on this video talk about an old Happy Birthday song by the creators of this one, released years prior. Apparently it got a copyright strike, and so they had to make a new version - this. The excited lamb was also part of the old one.
- Lots of stock images are used in this video! The Birthday clown featured throughout is one of them.
- The final "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" is slowed and altered a little. These effects also occur in the name variations of this video.
- During the lyrics "The night is yours, destiny awaits", footage of a knight slashing present is shown. Wordplay!
- Animals, cakes, presents, and words fly across the screen throughout the video.
- When the surfer jumps into the water, an explosion is seen. How did that happen?
- Some "characters" in this video have their mouths replaced by realistic ones, including a girl, a baby, and one of the dogs later on.
