Image for the animation section[edit]

First, the article has quite some information not related to Nintendo, in particular under "Career in the Animation Industry", but I think this is important for the career of an animator, and I already tried to reduce it to a minimum.

However, that the first two sections for Kotabe's life have no images at all makes the article look unbalanced in terms of its illustration. So I thought about adding this concept art of Heidi (which was also used on the cover of the book on him), as the Heidi anime is one of Kotabe's most famous works. Of course, it has nothing do with Mario other than that it is related to Yoichi Kotabe, but maybe an exception can be made here as it is relevant for this particular person? --Grandy02 18:05, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Well, I don't see anything wrong with that, It has nothing to do with Mario, but it has to do with Kotabe, however, I prefer the cover which at least includes his name.Dry Bones in Paper MarioCount Bonsula I need blood...Ml2 drybones.png18:18, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

The art is very small on the book cover image, though, and there isn't much to see other than text and another drawing on a dark background. --Grandy02 19:52, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

I added the image. If anybody opposes, please tell. --Grandy02 15:54, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

I just preferred the book one, but still, I think this one's okay. That's just my opinion.Dry Bones in Paper MarioCount Bonsula I need blood...Ml2 drybones.png16:00, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

The rewrite template[edit]

"It has been requested that this article be rewritten because it needs to be Mario-centric as there is a lot of non-Mario things covered. Feels like a Wikipedia article."

All of the information about Yoichi Kotabe's career are informative and relevant, either in explaining how his syle developed or how he got hired at Nintendo. I abhor the idea of artifically making an article crappier and less informative out of some misguided notion "it's not enough about Mario". --Glowsquid (talk) 15:48, 3 May 2017 (EDT)

There is just a lot of linking to Wikipedia. Other articles about Nintendo employees don't do it nearly as often as this article does. I don't mind a few links to Wikipedia but it just looks ridiculous how much of a stretch the article has to go to be worth a read. It's better just to point to Yōichi Kotabe. Nintendo Wiki would be much better suited for an article about this man. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 05:01, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
"They are too much blue Wikipedia links and I don't like that" is a laughably terrible reason to slap a rewrite template on a page. --Glowsquid (talk) 09:36, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
We aren't a general knowledge wiki or general knowledge Nintendo Wiki. Our wiki is MarioWiki. Our wiki specializes in anything Mario. I have this issue with covering Super Smash Bros. (series) and Donkey Kong Country (series) the way we cover it here. It's not just with Yoichi Kotabe. The current coverage needs to be more condensed and put the focus more on Career at Nintendo, because that has the content MarioWiki is looking to cover. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:54, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
We can have it cover only Mario-related content and still have it be written with quality writing. This whole thing goes into way too much detail, to the point where it seems likes it's a literal copy/paste of the Wikipedia article. ...Actually, the Wikipedia article doesn't even go this in depth! What say we hand this article over to Wikipedia and start again? Not even joking. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:00, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
Yeah, I agree that the page goes into too much detail. The "Career in the animation industry" section doesn't seem necessary for a Mario Wiki, and it seems it is just there to have information between his early life and his career at Nintendo. Not even Shigeru Miyamoto's page covers this much non-Nintendo information. --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 16:06, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
Well, to be fair, Miyamoto doesn't do much outside of Nintendo. You could fit his whole life in there and it would still be relevant. The same can't be said for Yoichi, however. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:08, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
That's true. A better example (maybe?) is Satoru Iwata's page, which covers his work with HAL Laboratory very briefly in one sentence, instead of having a full section for it like he does on Wikipedia. --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 16:18, 9 May 2017 (EDT)

Also, should this page be moved to Yōichi Kotabe, as that is his name is actually written? Currently it is a redirect. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:36, 9 May 2017 (EDT)

I think it should be moved, definitely since a redirect already exists, as that is how his name is written (it's also the title of the page on Wikipedia). --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:30, 9 May 2017 (EDT)
