Considering how Fire Breath covers both the Smash Bros. move and general instances of Bowser doing similar things, should this page be expanded to include other times Bowser and other members of his species (like the Koopalings and Bowser Jr.) perform a "spinning shell" move? Since this seems to be based on the Koopalings' bouncing in their shells in Super Mario Bros. 3. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:42, October 3, 2024 (EDT)

MegaDragonBowser's article says he performs the move during his battle and one of Black Bowser's moves is pretty clearly a reference to this so these two could be added. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:33, October 13, 2024 (EDT)
All "Bowser's species shell spins" is going to balloon the scope of this article dramatically. It's a very ubiquitous animation for Bowser. For instance, we'd cover tackles in Mario Strikers: Battle League and dashes in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope with very little to say about them because as themed Bowser versions of gamewide abilities they either have their own articles (Dash (Mario + Rabbids series)) or defer to the game's article (tackle). Whirling Fortress would become a listicle in short order. I think having the article work this way would bury the flight aspect, a key point of its implementation in Smash which doesn't exist in most other appearances. (Is a move even a Whirling Fortress if it cannot fly?) Salmancer (talk) 15:56, March 15, 2025 (EDT)
The Japanese name is literally "spinning shell" and "whirling fortress" is just a flowery rewrite of that. I don't see the issue, any more than not all appearances of Fire Breath peter out after repeated use. I think at the very least, there should be a "shell spin" page, and this seems like a good place for it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:29, March 15, 2025 (EDT)
I would argue that flight, making Whirling Fortress a core part of Bowser's recovery, is more important to the identity of this move than Fire Breath having a balancing restriction. (Obvious counterpoint is Link's Spin Attack, but Spin Attack had an identity before Super Smash Bros. while Whirling Fortress doesn't without either connecting dots or bringing in Mario's Time Machine. The latter has precedence with Mega Mario and Mega Mushroom but...) Salmancer (talk) 11:43, March 16, 2025 (EDT)
It's adapted from the Koopaling move, though. Also, you can perform it on the ground without any vertical movement happening, much like the aforementioned Spin Attack. Granted, so is Spinning Kong which isn't based on anything as far as I can tell (other than the "strong guy has a wrestling lariat" fighting game archetype), but the point still stands.
