Rename to "Stopwatch"?[edit]

Awhile back, this proposal passed, leading to many item pages being renamed to match their latest appearance (TTYD remake). However, this proposal was only for PM items, and as such Stop Watch (which originated in SMB2) was excluded. Still, "Stopwatch" is the most recent name used, so should we move the page? Given the past few Switch remakes/remasters, I think a better approach would be to treat any unchanged text in any reissue as an exception to the recent name rule - same as we generally do for emulations. This way, there's less scrambling whenever a 'big' rerelease happens. As far as I know, "Stopwatch" and related text is completely unchanged from 2004, and in my view, being arbitrary carried over is not necessarily indicative of recency. I can make it a proposal if it has to be one. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:20, January 17, 2025 (EST)
@LinkTheLefty Have your thoughts changed at all on this? Technetium (talk) 14:03, May 27, 2025 (EDT)
@Technetium Sorry for a rather late question, given we found this while sifting through move requests. We haven't played the Switch remake of TTYD; are they called "Stopwatch" in that game, or is it still "Stop Watch"? It's still "Stopwatch". Technetium (talk) 14:03, May 27, 2025 (EDT)
...Well, if "Stopwatch" is the most recent name (over "Stop Watch"), you should be able to move it rather non-contentiously. Camwoodstock-sigicon.png~Camwoodstock ( talk contribs ) Camwoodstock-sigicon2.png 14:07, May 27, 2025 (EDT)
Just not sure based on LinkTheLefty's comment above. Technetium (talk) 14:11, May 27, 2025 (EDT)
I missed out on the proposal, but to answer the question, implementing this since my comment addressed a few concerns I had (i.e. we no longer have a release gap where the main Bowser's Castle and Yoshi's Island articles should have been moved because Bowser's Keep and Yo'ster Isle are now their own articles). Stopwatch looks a little strange because Super Paper Mario caught it, but that's how the cookie crumbles. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:26, September 28, 2025 (EDT)

Move to "Stopwatch"[edit]

Brown Block This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

Move to Stopwatch 8-0
As seen in the discussion above, this is a bit complicated, and the proposal on Gold Bar x3 got me thinking of this again. "Stop Watch" is written as "Stopwatch" in the TTYD remake, which is its latest appearance. However, unlike other article moves resulting from the remake, this is unchanged from the original game. I can see this going either way, but what we need here is discussion, hence a proposal.

It's time (Support)[edit]

  1. Technetium (talk) As proposer. The name change is quite minor, and it keeps the rules on using most recent name consistent.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Most recent name, and there is nothing particularly difficult about typing "Stopwatch" over "Stop Watch", so our skepticism we had for Gold Bar (x/×/x /× )3 is entirely moot. Per proposal.
  3. Sorbetti (talk) I thought it was already like this. I guess I didn't pay much attention to it. Per proposal.
  4. Rykitu (talk) Per all.
  5. Hewatch (talk) Consistency.
  6. Balugio (talk) I only read the first few sentences of the proposal and I'm convinced this should be moved.
  7. Sparks (talk) Per all.
  8. 1468z (talk) Per all.

Split the character?[edit]

This is something that crossed our mind in the Discord, and we felt we should mirror it here. For whatever reason, the "Stop Watch" character that originates from a character guide misinterpreting the Super Mario Bros. 2 manual is merged, in its entirety, to this page... And, as a single bullet point in the Notes section. Why is that? While definitely remote, he did appear in a comic, as well as a few pieces of merchandise, and the strange context behind his creation is, at least in our opinion, interesting enough to carry what would be an otherwise rather barebones history. And yet, he's currently just... A random side-note on a page that is just for an item. We've heard some argue it'd make more sense to just expand information on him here, and keep him on this page, but we feel like given the context of the character, as well as how the Stopwatch item appeared multiple times later on entirely unrelated to the character, it would be a bit weird to basically have a character page growing out of an item page like this.
Unfortunately, we're not versed enough in the Deep Stop Watch Lore™ to know how best to draft a page, but we're curious if there's interest in this, or if a split is even the best way forward. If anyone plans to draft a page for him, by the way, let us know, and we'll help out any way we can.
