Launch Star (move) says:

When Rosalina uses this move, a Launch Star appears and sends Rosalina into the air at an arc, similar to the Launch Stars from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Launch Star says:

While Launch Stars themselves do not appear in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS or Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Rosalina executes a move in a similar manner to a Launch Star for her up special move, in which she propels herself from a pair of rainbow stars, even producing a similar sound effect.

I don't think we're allowed to say both of these things at the same time, because they contradict each other. We have to pick a narrative to present, even if that narrative is "we don't know", or people will be confused reading these statements back to back. Does the Launch Star move create a Launch Star, does it not, or is it indeterminate? I personally think the move is creating a Launch Star between having the duo of larger and smaller star outlines, the posing, and the sound effect. It would be weird the developers go that far in making an action resemble using a Launch Star only to stop short and have it not even a kind of Launch Star. The move is pretty clearly called Launch Star and the sound effect is from the game and the way Rosalina launches herself is pretty clearly using most of the same animation. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:50, September 21, 2025 (EDT)
It's definitely intentionally evocative, though nothing about the name "Galaxy Jump" indicates a "Super Star Ring" specifically, and the stars themselves look rather different. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:22, September 21, 2025 (EDT)
Can't "Galaxy Jump" be read as "Its a jump with similarities to Super Mario Galaxy?" Which gets it closer to a Launch Star? Salmancer (talk) 10:53, September 21, 2025 (EDT)
Yes, but that's still not an absolute link to the particular object. Functionally, it's closer to Sling Star. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:14, September 21, 2025 (EDT)
All canonical methods of flight are hard nerfed in the gameplay of Super Smash Bros., and Launch Stars are a canonical method of flight. Its entirely possible that in order to make the move replicate the swooping motions that Launch Stars are famous for without letting the move invoke actual flight, they just made the teeny tiny balancing tweak of having gravity assert itself. (Yes, Balloon Trip is a canonical method of flight that basically has full free movement in Smash Bros., but its the exception that proves the rule and it does have a meaningful nerf in how using it repeatedly weakens it.)
