Shouldn't they be called Venus Fly Traps or Fly Trap or maybe Luigi Trap(just kidding)?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_flytrap DREAMYDARKBOWSER777 (talk) 17:43, 17 February 2015 (EST)

Yes I agree. MarioKart7player (talk) 17:45, 17 February 2015 (EST) Someone shold chang it. MarioKart7player (talk) 17:52, 17 February 2015 (EST)

Yeah, Venus Fly Trap is more specific, but maybe "Venus Fly Trap Monster" is better, albeit, more of a mouthful? Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 18:13, 17 February 2015 (EST)

Yes, I agree! VFTs are smaller than these. DREAMYDARKBOWSER777 (talk) 08:52, 22 February 2015 (EST)

Name[edit]

For future reference, the Prima eGuide for LMDM has a couple different names for the plants:

  • "You’ll find twisting vines blocking your path, carnivorous plants snapping at your heels, and some surprisingly aggressive critters striking when you least expect it."
  • "If a flytrap gets ahold of you, repeatedly tap the buttons on the Nintendo 3DS system to free yourself.
"
  • "When you enter the Plant Nursery, two flytraps are snapping at anything that moves."
  • "As you cross the room, move along the room’s south edge to stay clear of the carnivorous plants."
  • "Aim the Poltergust at the nearest flytrap; when the reticle appears, hold to shoot the seed at your target.
"
  • "The flytrap swallows the seed pod, chokes, and shrivels away. Repeat the process with the remaining flytrap."
  • "Fire a seed pod at each of the flytraps guarding the area, then open the chest to collect the Key.
"
  • "As you move through the area, make sure you stay clear of the snapping plant."

And so on. Flytrap is the more consistent term (also used for the cardboard plants); I'll probably move it soon if there aren't any objections. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Flytrap is a far more descriptive name than simply "carnivourous plant" (I think it refers to them as the carnivorous plants because..like referring to Mario as a pesky plumber or something) as the term "carnivorous plant" encompasses a lot of plants of this nature not just venus fly traps, as the plant is clearly based off of, so I'm in support of moving this page to Flytrap. It seems that the Japanese name mixes Bakubaku with Pakkun, the Japanese name for Piranha Plants. Could they be variants of Piranha Plants? Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 15:53, May 24, 2025 (EDT)

Considering that this looks like a regular Venus Flytrap, I don't think so. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:43, May 25, 2025 (EDT)
I know that's what the article says, but I don't think the name バクーン (Bakūn) is a reference to パックン (Pakkun). It might be somewhat inspired by it, but I think it's more likely just meant to match orange flower's ブラーン (Burān). That said, both of these names are unsourced (actually unsourced, not "oops all foreign names on the wiki suddenly need sources" unsourced) at the moment, so using them as an argument doesn't really work until a source is found.
