Merge Mario Kart and Mario & Sonic appearances of Mushroom here[edit]

"Dash Mushroom" and "Dash Kinoko" is a more recent name for the MK mushy, which is also used in later MP games and the M&S games. Since it seems this is a divergently evolved item now, those should be merged here on the same principle as Golden Mushroom and Golden Dash Mushroom. Merge Mario Kart and Mario & Sonic Mushrooms here: proposal edition[edit]

passed 5-1
So I tried making a discussion for this, it got no attention and a different proposal started in the interim, preempting it. Now that that's over, I'll go ahead and make a proposal here. All the points are above. This is a case of divergent evolution. All instances of "Dash Mushroom" outside these games (such as Smash cameos) are also going to be merged, in case that wasn't obvious.

Support[edit]

  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Let's do this
  2. Hewer (talk) This is one the few things on the Mushroom page that I don't think should be merged to Super Mushroom, since its name and effect are much more different. We already split the Mario Party depiction of this item seemingly for the same reason, so it only makes sense to split its other appearances as well.
  3. ShootingStar7X (talk) Per proposal.
  4. Power Flotzo (talk) Per all.
  5. Somethingone (talk)Per all.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Shadow2 (talk) Nothing called a "Dash Mushroom" has ever appeared in any Mario Kart or Mario & Sonic game. This proposal makes no sense whatsoever.

Comments[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. 4 the Dash Mushroom appears as a piece of equipment. I'm assuming this will also be covered on the Dash Mushroom page, but just in case, will it? Also, would this mean Triple Mushrooms would get moved to 'Triple Dash Mushrooms'? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 06:05, August 7, 2021 (EDT)

Yes on first, maybe on second. There aren't exactly a lot of other "triple mushrooms," and unlike standard Dash Mushrooms the name has so far been Commonwealth English-only. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:26, August 7, 2021 (EDT)
The Dash Mushroom has an upgraded variant called the "Double Dash" mushroom; it's absolutely based on Mario Kart and should be included. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 13:32, August 7, 2021 (EDT)

As far as I can tell, Triple Mushrooms have only appeared in the Mario Kart games, so I think it'd be inconsistent to call the single mushrooms Dash Mushrooms but not the triple mushrooms. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 15:04, August 7, 2021 (EDT)

@Shadow2 Ahem Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:15, August 18, 2021 (EDT)

So because only the British version of two games, as well as the one DS game in a large series, call them Dash Mushrooms, we're going to refer to every single one of these speed-boosting Mushrooms as Dash Mushrooms?Shadow2 (talk) 21:56, August 20, 2021 (EDT)
No, we're gonna do it like this. It's a case of divergent evolution the localizers only sometimes catch on to. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:42, August 21, 2021 (EDT)

Mario Party Superstars[edit]

So in MPSS, the "Dash Mushroom" is now just called a Mushroom again, which you can tell because it has the exact same functionality as in games such as Super Mario Party by adding 5 to the role. Except, for some reason, we're putting that information on the Mushroom page and saying it behaves "similarly to the Dash Mushroom"

Methinks Nintendo's just screwing with our heads. Luigi's dizzy sprite Maybe include information in both articles?????? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:17, January 14, 2022 (EST)
What's JP script call it? English script's always been wishy-washy with Dashroom. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:28, January 14, 2022 (EST)
https://youtu.be/P3QyNDAWqr4?t=1194 — It's just Kinoko (キノコ), not Dash Kinoko (ダッシュキノコ). Considering the latter name seems to be consistent in Japan since its introduction and Mario Party Superstars primarily homages the N64 Mario Party trilogy, it's safe to say that this is the regular Mushroom. ShootingStar7X (talk) 10:11, January 14, 2022 (EST)
Makes sense to me. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:21, January 14, 2022 (EST)
So we're listing the Superstars Mushroom as a regular Mushroom, basing entirely on its name, even though it has the same properties as a Dash Mushroom but with a different plus amount. Yet we moved a bunch of Mario Kart info from the regular Mushroom to this page, *ignoring* its name, because it has the same properties as a later Dash Mushroom. Can't you guys at least be consistent? Shadow2 (talk) 01:36, January 17, 2022 (EST)
Because the name "Dash Mushroom" didn't exist for a while. This on the other hand is a conscious choice. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:08, April 27, 2022 (EDT)
That's just ridiculous, honestly... Shadow2 (talk) 05:59, April 28, 2022 (EDT)
